The meaning of ethical in my religion means, by the knowledge and practicing or education and training in Islamic ethic, would be able to raise the status of human being from lower or equal to animals ,up to above the animals and advance in to being equal to angels or being raised above the status of angels ,by feeding the human soul with the food of the real knowledge and love in GOD ,the Lord of all the worlds , reaching to the highest state of becoming complete human being or become Insanul Kamil . So this is the final aim or outcome of having ethical education and training in the only religion of GOD, send down for all mankind from the beginning till the end of time. Of course, the believers in the only one true GOD , should also fill the food of their Consciousnesses with the fear and hope in GOD alone and feed their physical bodies with all the Halal food. So the ethical value in Islam then include soul, spirit, consciousness and physical bodies as mentioned.

I think there is a word in there that you are unsure of.

Of Course.  In the case of higher education It does not merely imply it is mandatory.

The more religious you are the less likely the word "ethical" has any meaning.

    See these

Ecclesiastes 12:12-14 — My child, let me give you some advice: Be careful, for reading books is endless, and much study wears you out. That’s the whole story. Here now is my final conclusion: Fear God and obey his commands, for this is everyone’s duty. God will judge us for everything we do, including every secret thing, whether good or bad.

Colossians 2:8 — Don’t let anyone capture you with empty philosophies and high-sounding nonsense that come from human thinking and from the spiritual powers of this world, rather than from Christ.

1 Corinthians 1:20 — So where does this leave the philosophers, the scholars, and the world’s brilliant debaters? God has made the wisdom of this world look foolish.

St. Thomas Aquinas is a patron saint of scholars.  It is good to have true devotion to him and to remember him especially on his feast days.  Further, it is good to study his writings such as his Summa Theologica, and to recite novenas and other prayers in his honor.  It is good to study his life including his sufferings and death.  He is a Doctor of the Catholic Church.
