Frequent bathroom trips day and night?

Frequent bathroom trips during the night though no liquids since 6pm. During the day when sitting very few trips. Why does lying down appear to be related to the frequency whereas sitting or standing during the day does not. Thanks.

Update:

We don't drink coffee but some caffeine with soft drinks but the amount is under 12 ounces such as a can. We empty our bladder first trip at some late night time after going to sleep and then the urge arrives again and more fluids. It's like we can not empty the bladder. Thanks.

Are you eating salty foods?  Too much salt can make you retain fluid and then at night you start peeing it all out.  It could also be an enlarged prostate or diabetes.
