Private number plate process?

Hi, I’ve recently bought some private number plates for my car, I have received the V750 and I was wondering if there’s anything else I need to do before I can get them fitted? Do I need to register them on the dvla before I go and get them changed and fitted or can I do that before ? As it’s only a short distance from home. Also, what happens to my old original plates that came with the car? Is there any other documentation I need to get? Sorry to sound dim but I don’t have anyone to ask about these things. Thanks

most people buy their plates from companies ..they do all the paperwork for you ..you will have to fill in a form ..pay the fee £80 i believe and then wait till you are informed by DVLA  they are legal to fit

If you don't have preapproval you will be driving with illegal plates.  You turn in your old plates.  And no.
