Because Jesus personally founded only one Church ... the Holy Catholic Church ... for the purpose of our salvation and he endowed that Church with all that the faithful would ever need, until the end of time.

Water baptism is the symbol God has set for our covenant with Him. It is a symbol of new birth or a change of heart and direction. This is why John the baptist taught the need for repentance before baptism. Jesus Himself was baptized because even though He was perfect, He was required to make the covenant with the Father. Our relationship with the Father is a covenant one. As we faithfully stay in the covenant and strive to follow Christ, He will protect and save us.
The covenant symbolized by water baptism comes before the Holy Ghost. As we faithfully follow Christ, the Holy Ghost leads us, teaches us and purifies us. This is what it means to be born again or born of the spirit. It is true that the revelatory gift of the Holy Ghost is essential but it does not eliminate the need for the other ordinances of the gospel.
