The most common finding causing pain in bed may be related to greater trochanteric bursitis. Here is a link:

How long ago was your hip replacement? If it was in the last 2 yrs you might have to do more of the exercises you did for rehab .Do them on the bed .The bench ones like clam shell.

foam mattress is bad for the back

better you sleep on a hard mattress with a

    wooden plank underneath

During the second world war British POW's

held by the Japanese in Burma had to sleep

on the floor without any mattress and none of them

    ever complained of back pains

    they however suffered from malnutrition

Well age and old injury even after surgery, welcome to the club....It happens to many or us with hip/lowback injuries/surgery. A good friend of mine i was working with a couple years ago gave me the best thing ever.

Look for a HEATED MATTRESS PAD by sunbeam. Set no higher than lever 2 or 3. This will help that old body in the morning.

It is like a heating pad for your mattress. I found it to be better than a heating pad.

It more than likely sitting too long bothers you as well. i am not even 50 and had those issues. That heated mattress pad was best investment i made. It takes that chill out of your body and in the morning you will feel great.

Reason being is at night just the cool air or low temp will cause the muscles to stiffen. This is a valuable reason WHY many do exercises or stretches in the morning to get moving.

Even if it is not the solution or ave other issues, you do get a couple things out of it. On those cold damp nights when most turn the temp in the house down. It keeps the joints nice and warm. It a big heating pad.

    Hope this helps.
