Why is the ex trying to come back after all this time?

My ex was a guy who wanted to hang out with other men and womanise. He said he didn't want a relationship and he wanted to be free. So, I said - fine and said goodbye. Some years down the road, I changed my whatsapp profile pic to a bunch of flowers which were given to me. Then all of the sudden out of the blue, the ex texts me saying ' how are you?'. I mean - WHY? I just blocked him anyways...

Ok, here's what people don't get.  Nobody here has a clue why he did this, but when someone from the past takes 4 seconds to type out a 3 word question, they are trying to get inside your head.  And it worked.  The fact you're asking about it proves this.  If he had tapped out "Hey, I'd love to catch up with you.  When is a good time to call?", this is very very different.

You made a mistake in blocking him, because it proves to him he DID get inside your head.  The best course of action is the non-response.  I don't know if whatsapp lets you mute someone, but that's ideal.  You won't see anything he taps out so it WON'T get inside your head.  It's all a big game.
