Will Washing shirts just in water get them clean ?
I just started this job and get paid every two weeks. they only gave me three work shirts and they're already dirty. Right now I just don't have the money to go out and buy laundry soap. I'm just wondering washing them just in cold water or warm water will it get them clean enough to be passable. I could buy laundry soap from dollar tree but not sure how good it will be only bring $1.00. I usually useTide but Tide is expensive.

Soap is cheap and you must use soap to break the surface tension and remove the dirt.
The biggest mistake 99% of people make when washing clothes is using too much detergent.
For a full load you NEVER need more than 2 TABLESPOONS of liquid detergent.
Using more than that will merely cause your clothes to fade and fall apart and bring your washer to a early grave.
But yes you need laundry soap.

I'd splurge on the Dollar Store Soap, for now.
Or, use a small bit of dishwashing liquid. I'd even try to use a cheese grater with a bar of soap Or even a cap-full of shampoo or even baking soda if I had no laundry soap. Those alternatives are better than nothing.

Washing in water is better than not washing them at all.
The $1 soap is better than washing them in just water. Much of the price of Tide and the other brand names is to cover the advertising, etc.
The $1 soap should work until you can get something better in two or three weeks.
If the shirts are "really dirty", put a little bit of the detergent directly on any stains or dirt spots and leave it overnight. Then wash it the next day. Per-soaking the spots like that will get them out better than just washing the shirts.

Get the cheap stuff until you can afford the better detergent. It will be better than nothing and you might find out is good enough for work clothes.
Using water only will help remove dirt particles and some of the body oder. Depending on how dirty you get at work it might be good enough. Give it a try with warm water, at worst you will use a few gallons of water and 25 cents worth of electricity, and you will have your answer. You don't have anything to lose.

You CAN wash them in water only, but they will not get that clean. The detergent you can buy at the dollar store will be fine. It's better than just plain water.
You can also HAND wash your shirts, in dish soap or hand soap, and hang them in the shower or over the bathtub to dry. (Or outside in the sun.) Not only cheap--but handy.

No. Sweat is oil. Oil and water don’t mix.
Tide is expensive because you’re paying for the advertising.
All you need is lauryl sulfate or sodium dodecyl sulfate. It’s a detergent that many name brands uses.

Not sure as I've never done that. What I'd do is hand-wash them in the laundry tub with shampoo then put them in the washing machine on the rinse and spin cycle.
