LIST car type! MANY dealership s STIL use VALVOLIEN which is VERY VERY BAD! They get DEALS on servicing the CAR HOISTS with LUBRICANT! But A VALVOLINE wil eat up RUBBER PARTS liek P BREATHER HOSES and BRAKE OP POWER BOOSTER diaphrams over TIME and thsi costs MROE MONEY!>>>The BEST oil is DEFINITELY the oil from Germany and EUROPE!  NAND is it is EASY to find a PENNZOI LLOIL CHANGE CENTER by looking it UPM< like inMICHIgAN we have UNCLE ED'S! The use of PENNZOIL ULTRA synthetic oils wil get you a wrranty out to 500,000 miels with PROOF of PURChASE! And vALVOLIEN is a DEAD OIL that shodu NOT even be  around any mroe! It COMES from ASH (the AHSLAND company) and WILL leve BAD deposits INSIDE the engien as it BREAKS DOWN with time!  ONLOY SYNTHETIC OILS will last for ONE to TWO YEARS of use and shwo ZERO depsogtis and ENGIEN WEAR alogn with it!  PENSTOIN makeS the fluids and OIL for mos EUREOPAN CARS like BMW, AUDI,a nd BENZ! And TYOTE uses RED PENTOSIN coolant in ALL thei cars for it sPURITY andabillity to keep gthe system CLEANEST! FOD dealers use CONOCO PHILLIPS oil mostly but they STILL may have VALVOLINE in large drums! ASK at the DEALERSHIPif they are usign VALVOLINE! if yhey ARE< BACK away fromt eh plpAce! I was a HEAD tech for a SAAB, GM< SUBARU deAlerships and ALL teh SAAB engines were comoing in wih BLOWN TURBO ChARGERS! it was NOT a DESIGN FLAW< it was the use of VALVOLINE ( it CANNOT handle the HEAT of a TURBO car engine ) ! It woudl cause HARDENING of the OIL FEED and RETURN LINES and eventulally StARVE the TURBOS for LUBRICATION! MOBIL ONE 0W-40 is EXCELLENT for mos EURO engines but you MUST use the proper SPEC NUMBERS! GM uses only DEXOS or BETTER OIL now as they use OPEN TURBO engiens in many models and they use a BMW TURBO DIESEL in the ONE model of CRUZE! You can bring your OWN OIL and FILTER to the CAR MAKERS deAlershipa nd have them CHANGE IT and ALSO get CHECKS ande RECALL notices as well! IF VALVOLINE is USED< BACK AWAY entirely from using the "FREE" oil! It is JIST NO GOOD and wil ROB ou of engine life eventually! >>I ALSO <LOVE> LIQUI MOLY from Germany! TOTAL ENERGY OIL from France ( but REFINED int eh USA) and AMSOIL SYNTHETIC OILS TODAYS engiens work HARDER as they are SMALLER and any of them sw with vARIABLE VALVE TIMING or MULTIPKLE valve heAds REQUIRE a FULL SYNTHETC to work the BEST and lsat the LONGEST!  WALMART usualy has PENNZOIL ULTRA PLATINUM on sale for $20 for FIVE QUARTS! You CANNOT beat that! But use a SYNTEHTIC FILTER like MOBIL ONE SYNTH or AMSOIL synth or PENNZOIL SYNTH and NOT paper element filters! GOOD LUCK to you!

Brand new car? At the dealer, its under warranty and if anything needs fixed they will use OEM parts and it won;t cost. Plus if they need to do a repair 95% of dealers will provide you with a nice loaner vehicle.

If its a used car that's new to you, but very low miles i would still go to the dealer.

If its a used car that's new to you but has 100,000 plus, an independent shop can do you just fine.

While it’s under warranty, use the dealership. It’s so much less trouble if you need to claim.

Ask your friends and neighbors who can be trusted to service your car in your area. Too many clip joint shops out there.

Ask family and friends where they go for car repairs or the name of a reliable mechanic. Technical schools with an automotive department might give you a god price.

Anywhere you choose.  New cars usually don't need service.
