Why do so many Christians act like the empty tomb is proof of the resurrection?

Let's say for the sake of argument that some of the events in the bible really did happen.

That there really was a Jesus of Nazareth who claimed all the things the bible says.

That he really did have all these followers.

And that he was really arrested, tried, and sentenced to death by crucifixion.

Still, an empty tomb doesn't prove that he was who he said he was.

What's to stop some of his followers from stealing his body and then saying:

"Behold! The tomb is empty! He is risen!"

As if a couple guys guarding the tomb couldn't be bribed, or simply overpowered.

    examine  the FORMATION of BELIEF...

. start with a definition of BELIEF   one use is  a BELIEF is an ATTITUDE that something is the CASE  , or that some PROPOSITION  about the world is true

the ACCEPTANCE  of a statement  is true or that something exist  the word BELIEF in Greek is Pistis  meaning Confidence  or trust  BELIEF   comes from two SOURCES   PEOPLES own  experiences and reflections , or as a blind acceptance of what OTHER  "PEOPLE " tell us   SELF GENERATED  belief  , experience  experiment  reflection , generalization  .

EXTERNALLY  GENERATED belief  what others tell us  as in  experts "authority "  and CANONS   its indicated that Jesus followers were NOT RANDOM people .

..in at least multiple   instances they were his FAMILY MEMBERS  first cousins and brothers  Brothers were  James joses Judas  Simon and Jude   plus two sisters  Mary and Salome  Joseph Mary husband had a brother  CLOPAS  also married to a MARY  the Aunt and uncle  of Jesus also  Andrew  John Philip Bartholomew Matthew Thomas

James and John are sons of Zebedee and Salome   so its a close group  promoting certain ideas and believing certain ideas   bias  the number of people believing a claim does not cause it to be true

its  called the BAND WAGON effect  a tendency of an individual to acquire a particular style  behavior  or ATTITUDE  because everyone else in their circle  is doing it  A psychological  phenomenon  where by  the RATE of uptake of a BELIEF , IDEA , facts and trends  INCREASES  with respect  to the proportion of OTHERS  who have ALREADY  done so

..REGARDLESS of their OWN belief which they may IGNORE  or override .. this tendency  of PEOPLE to align their beliefs and behaviors with those of a group is also called HERD MENTALITY

The empty tomb symbolises the empty claims for a god and Jesus!!!!!!!!!!

The first person to produce a single tiny little piece of verifiable evidence for any god will become world famous and mega rich!

Academia states that in the absence of any sort of evidence of the existence of something it must be deemed not to exist until verifiable evidence is found - thus god is held not to exist pending some sort of verifiable evidence.

The bible is what is called "Faction” A fictional story set in a factual time and place. Thus the time, place and real historical characters are all correct but the fictional characters and stories are not!

There is not one single mention of Jesus in the entire Roman record - that is right - not one! At the same time as he was supposed to have been around there were a number of Jews claiming to be the messiah - all of whom are well recorded!

There is not a single contemporary record from any source and even the bible mentions of him like all other references were not written until many years after his supposed death!

He was supposed to have been a huge problem to the Romans and produced wonderful miracles but still not one contemporary record?

Even the bible mentions of him like all other references were not written until many years after his supposed death!

Pilate is recorded in the Roman record as a somewhat lack luster man but no mention of a Jesus, a trial or crucifixion that would surely have been used to make him look brighter!

At best he was an amalgam of those others but almost certainly never existed!

Not one word of it is contemporary with the period and was not written until several hundred years after the period the story is set in!! How did the apostles write their books more than a hundred years after they would have been dead?

Christianity is an invention of the Italians and that is why it came from the Holy ROMAN Catholic church!

Please realize that those claims for the Old historians are worthless since they were not even born until long after everyone in the stories would have been so long dead!

    Josephus AD 37 – AD 100

    Tacitus AD 56 – AD 120

    Suetonius - 69 – 130 AD

Pliny the Younger, 61 AD – 112 AD

Justin Martyr (Saint Justin) AD103–165 AD

Lucian - AD 120 -180 AD but he was hostile to Christianity and openly mocked it.

    Pamphilius AD 240-309 AD

    Eusebius AD 263 – 339 AD

    Photius AD 877 – 886 AD

Thallus - But there are no actual record of him except a fragment of writing which mentions the sack of Troy [109 BC] Showing that he was clearly not alive in biblical times.

Some even try to use Seneca. 4 BCE – 65 CE but as a Stoic Philosopher he opposed religion yet made not a single mention of a Jesus or Christianity!

Even funnier is trying to claim Celsus AD ? – 177 AD Who said that Jesus was a Jew who’se mother was a poor Jewish girl whose husband, who was a carpenter, drove her away because of her adultery with a Roman soldier named Panthera. She gave birth to an illegitimate child named Jesus. In Egypt, Jesus became learned in sorcery and upon his return presented himself as a god.

Research shows whilst education reduces religious belief each year of further education reduces religious belief by up to 10%!

The guards at Jesus's tomb were not just "a couple of guys."  They were Roman SOLDIERS, armed with swords and possibly spears.  And they had been stationed at the tomb by Pilate himself, at the request of the Jewish leaders (Matthew 27:62-66).  The Bible doesn't record how many were assigned to guard the tomb, but we can be sure that Jesus's remaining eleven disciples, most of whom had been in hiding since Jesus's arrest, were not likely to attempt to overpower armed professional soldiers, roll away the huge stone which was sealing the tomb, only to remove what they believed was nothing more than Jesus's lifeless body.

You do have a point, however, mentioning that the guards could be bribed.  In fact, they WERE bribed.  Those same Jewish leaders who had insisted that Pilate have guards stationed at the tomb, bribed the guards to say that Jesus's disciples had stolen His body (Matthew 28:11-15).

Of course the empty tomb alone was not proof of His Resurrection. It was just the first clue. Actually seeing Him alive and continuing their relationship with Him was the absolute evidence, attested to by multiple eye witnesses.

The precious artwork has been stolen declares the museum.  Police asked, "What's your evidence?"  Museum adds, "Look for yourself, it's gone!"

Because he rose.  If he didn't, why the hell did most of the apostles willingly die horrible deaths for supporting his teachings?

It is more about the missing body.  Where was it?  The tomb was surrounded by a contingent of Roman soldiers.

The empty tomb is only one thing.  He was seen after his death.  And, he ate, and drank with his friends.

At least 500 people saw him alive again after he had been killed.  If that isn't proof, then what is?
