  • a grown man giving gifts to a 9 year old girl?

My 9 year old niece was given a cell phone by the guy her mom is dating, (this man is also her mom's boss) my niece told me that he asked her mom what my niece wanted, and was told a phone, so he went and got my niece a cell phone. From what my niece says, she doesn't spend any time with this guy, and she doesn't really know him. Am i over reacting to think that her dad (my brother) should tell this guy thanks but no thanks? He's admitted he's never met him before and doesn't know him. Something about a grown man who hasn't been dating the mom long and doesn't spend time with my niece giving her a cell phone sends up red flags to me. like, is he going to be asking her for "gifts" or "favors" in the future?

  • Question about scientific proof?

Athiests say they have scientific proof that there is no god, but science keeps proving itself wrong as it gets more sophisticated, are there any atheists willing to admit that we might not be scientifically evolved enough to find the proof of a god? (FYI I don't claim any religion or to be an athiest. This question is based only on their side of the debate is scientific proof)

  • Can students form prayer circles in public schools?

Can or should students (1st grade specifically) be allowed to ask their classmates to join a prayer circle, or should they be allowed to attempt to teach them about their religion? Public, inner city school.

  • what can i do to get a friend's creditor to stop calling me?

A friend of mine used me as a personal reference for a car loan, (i told her she could) and then became down on her luck and lost her job, and had to move out of state for various reasons. Anyway, is there anything i can do to get these car loan people to stop calling ME? I'm not a co-signer, or in any way responsible for the payments. please, no snarky comments about better friends and all that. I just want to know if or what i can do or say to get these people to leave me alone.

  • can police use radar guns accurately when you're driving away from them?

If a cop is parked on the side of the highway, (on the shoulder, like he's a stalled vehicle) can they accurately clock your speed on a laser radar gun if you've gone past them and you're driving away from them?

  • christian nanny and a gay couple?

I have a friend who is a nanny, and a very devout christian. The family she nannies for is a gay couple, two women, and have one little girl.(i'm not sure exactly how old she is, younger than school age) The little girl refers to her parents as "my moms" Whenever my friend hears this, she tells the little girl, "no your mom and 'joan'" and is always making little jokes about them being gay.

I understand her belief that being gay is a sin, but she had the choice to nanny for this family, and knew before she made the decision that it was for a gay couple. She said she took it because she thought she could be a positive influence in the little girls life.

My son plays with the little girl from time to time, and i have absolutely no problem with the mothers' lifestyle choice (i'm actually all for gay rights, but that's another subject) and all the comments my friend makes to the little girl and in general is starting to get to me. I've tried talking to her about it, but she just brushes me off and says it's what she's supposed to do. what else can i do to get her to shut up about it to not only me, but the comments she makes to the little girl? (the little girl can't completely vocalize to her moms what my friend is saying)

  • question for Christians?

In the Christan religion (I realize that other religions say this to, but not my point) premarital sex is a sin. And babies are gifts from God. God gives people babies, it's up to Him and it's His choice if a woman becomes pregnant. So when I got pregnant and wasn't married, I got a gift from God for sinning, or while i was sinning, how ever you want to word it. Isn't that a contradiction?

and please don't tell me that children born out of wedlock are abominations or anything like that. it's not what i'm asking.

  • why do people feel the need to push their beliefs on others?

weather it be christians "saving" people, or atheists cramming their beliefs on others, why does every religion, or not religion, or what ever you call it, feel the need to push their ideas and beliefs on others? And if someone doesn't agree with them, it's either the "devil at work" or "being brainwashed by organized religion"

Why can't people just believe what they want to believe, think what they want to think, and not have someone preaching one side or another or one religion over another? If i tell you I'm an atheist, you telling me about the bible and God won't change my mind. And if i'm a Christan, you telling me about all your reasons for not believing in God won't change my mind either.

(This is ment to include all religions and beliefs. Atheist and Christan were just the ones i picked out for examples.)

  • 10 year high school reunion?

My 10 year high school reunion is coming up, and the few people that i'm friends with from high school just can't understand why i don't want to go, My high school and Jr. high years were completely miserable, i was bullied and made fun of to no end by allot of those kids. I tried explaining that i already see and talk to everyone from high school i want to see and speak to, (the number is very small) so why waste the time and money going to see people who treated me like crap? I know that people grow up and change, but i just have no desire to go.

But my real question is: has anyone else been in this situation of having no desire to go to their reunion because of how bad their high school years were? and how did you handle people who think you're nuts for not wanting to go?

  • opinions on washing mouths out?

There's allot on here about spanking and dealing with tantrums, so i figured i would ask what everyone's opinions are about washing a child's mouth out with soap when the language gets out of bounds. (by out of bounds i mean anything you personally find wrong for your kids to say. some parents wont allow the word "crap" while others would)

Please don't bash eachother's answers, i'm just looking for a healthy kind debate.

  • A rabies vaccine reaction?

We gave my sheltie a rabies vaccine about a month and a half ago. When we got up this morning, he had a big lump where the shot was given, about the size of a quarter, and it was also draining and sticky. It was a pinkish color, my thoughts are that it was blood and infection discharge. He's been acting like his normal puppy self. any thoughts on what might be going on?
