Having problems with Ubuntu Netbook Remix 10.04?
Started up Ubuntu this morning, it's been running great for me but all of a sudden today, my icons are huge, my sound card is no longer installed, and I can't even reboot. When I pick reboot or shut down it just takes me back to the login screen. What the heck?
2 AnswersSoftware1 decade agoSo, how many Christians on R&S are former Atheists?
I was an atheist for many years before coming to believe in God again, and I believed in God and Jesus Christ for many years before I became a Christian. I've seen a few other people refer to themselves as ex-atheist, I'm just wondering who else besides me has been an atheist and has come to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ? (Much like C.S. Lewis and Lee Strobel, BTW)
10 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoSerious question about Fred Phelps?
Everyone knows what a tool Fred Phelps is and what a bunch of raving lunatics his Westboro Baptist Church are. But did you know that he used to be an activist lawyer? Like a way-left leaning liberal activist lawyer?
So here's my question, and I assure you I'm quite serious. Do you think it's possible that Fred Phelps and the Westboro Baptist Church are really liberals in disguise as fundies? Consider all they've done to drive the fence-sitters over to the side of homosexual liberties. Perhaps their protests are masked to look like they are against gays (or more specifically, that God is), when in reality they're only trying to draw more attention to the senseless war in Afghanistan/Iraq while also driving homosexuality sentiment up? Because if that's what they're about, it's a brilliant strategy. At the cost of credibility and public rebuke, of course.
So do you think that's what they're about, or do you think they are sincere, in which case they definitely take the FUN out of damentalism.
9 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoCall it "Accumenicalism," I just want to reach out to my Atheist brothers and sisters (-:?
Among other things I'm a huge Rush fan, which I know is hard to believe for a Christian but what can you do? Anyway, they pre-released a song yesterday I just wanted to share with you, called BU2B. Honestly I think you'll enjoy it.
All is for the best
Believe in what what we're told
Blind men in the market
Buying what we're sold
Believe in what we're told
Until our final breath
While our loving Watchmaker
Loves us all to death
6 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoThe difference between LDS and Community of Christ?
Not trying to stir trouble or troll, but until very recently I thought that the Community of Christ (formerly the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints) was very similar to the main body of the Mormon church (LDS). But when you look at the CofChrist.org website they appear to be completely different churches (albeit CofC is much smaller). If you are a member of CofC I would love to know what the main differences are between the churches. Thanks in advance.
5 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoA question for Atheists on R&S regarding evangelism:?
I see a lot of atheists who harbor deep resentments toward Christians who evangelize. Jesus commanded us to spread the gospel, and it is our love for all that drives us to save any and all lost sinners that we can. If we are true to our beliefs, we can do nothing else but what we do, and that is to tell everyone we know the good news that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, that he came to earth to save us from our sins and from eternal damnation in the Lake of Fire.
That is why we do what we do. Now to my question which is, why do you feel the need to "convert" Christians to your way of thinking? Some of the reasons I've seen given so far as to why you think we feel the need to convert you is "Misery loves company," etc. But why, if you feel so offended that we tell you our viewpoint, do you feel the need to "fix" us? If you want us to "live and let live, leave us atheists alone we're not hurting anyone," then why do you continually try to convince us that we are wrong in our beliefs?
We do it out of love. We evangelize because we care and we have a genuine concern for our fellow man. I've not seen much evidence of anything resembling love, care, or concern in the instigation that you engage in. And also bear in mind that I'm not saying you all do it, but that it seems to be the vast majority of the responses I've seen so far.
So the question is: Why do you try to "evangelize" Christians?
16 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoChristians, serious question regarding "three days."?
Then certain of the scribes and of the Pharisees answered, saying, Master, we would see a sign from thee.
But he answered and said unto them, An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given to it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas:For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale's belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.
- Matthew 12:38-40
This passage has always bothered me. Clearly Jesus did not spend three days and nights in the belly of the earth. He was entombed on a Friday just before sundown, and showed himself to Mary just after sunup on Sunday. So really, only two nights and one day. Not three days and three nights, as he said in this passage.
Keep in mind I'm a devout Christian. Just wondering if anyone else out there has any thoughts on this, or other insight.
Atheists: go ahead and use this passage as proof that Jesus was not the Son of God if you wish. I know in my (albeit wicked and deceitful) heart that he is. But also bear in mind that if you give credence to the accuracy of this passage then you must also give credence to the rest of the Bible.
11 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoWhat is the significance of the Nu-Rho symbol?
I've seen the Chi-Rho symbol (looks like an X super-imposed on a P) signifying Christ (Chi and Rho being the first two letters in the Greek word Christ). However, on a visit to Mother Bethel A.M.E. church in Philadelphia, I noticed one of their stained glass windows had a Nu-Rho symbol (instead of the X, there was an N). The tour guide couldn't tell us the significance of this symbol and I haven't been able to find anything about it online. Any ideas?
