  • Two Nic Cards -- #1 to Internet --- #2 to Printer?

I have two Nic cards. One is connected to my Internet cable modem to surf the net. It is set to the default discovery setting.

The second Nic card is for my HP 8500 printer which requires an Ethernet connection. I cannot use the USB choice.

I have proven both Nic cards can connect the Internet directly (one or the other), so the Nic cards work.

I have not been successful using Nic #1to the Internet and Nic #2 to the printer. The HP software was not successful doing this

Currently the printer is set to 192.168.1.12.

What do I need to do to make this work? What settings on Nic number 2 ??

I desire to avoid a router as the router cuts the internet speed in half. I have that option only if I must.

  • Receive RSS feed message as TEXT?

I need to receive RSS messages as SMS/cell phone TEXT message.

That is how the company I work for offers work. I need to be able to respond before anybody else grabs it.

It would really be nice to be able to filter the SMS TEXT messages by keyword to get the ones that matter by cell phone and dump the rest.

I was using YAHOO email filters, but they stopped working recently. Yahoo's SNAFU is costing me money.

    I need an alternative service.

  • If you were to get a Hybrid car on a budget, which one would you get and why? Need some space to carry stuff.?

With gas the price it is, I am considering getting a replacement car for my 20-25 MPG Suzuki. I drive 200-350 miles per week in town and interstate locally.

What point does the advantage not favor a hybrid?

  • Why do microwave products contain cooking instructions for units at 1200 watts?

Most of the microwave ovens sold are at 1000 watts over the stove or maybe 1100 watts on the counter.

  • How to remove "Recent Unread Emails from Contacts" from the Yahoo mail opening page.?

I asked this question a few months ago. That solution worked for a while. Now Yahoo has removed that option.

The very annoying "Recent Unread Emails from Contacts" is back with a vengeance.

I just want to go straight to my email without dealing with the added crap Yahoo keeps putting in the way.

    Thank you in advance.

  • How can virus XPSecurityCenter attack two PCs the same day?

Last night- all was well. About 8 AM this morning, my computer got bit and bit badly by the XPSecurityCenter computer virus. I have no clue how it came upon me or I upon it. I shut off my PC and went to work.

This evening, the PC virus insisted that I purchase it's software or it would not let me use IE8. It insisted files that I do not have were infected. I did not purchase, I just shut it down.

After dinner, my Mom got bit by the same bug. She has IE7. and Firefox.

We share a router to the high speed Internet box. We have a hard wired firewall in addition to the firewall on the PC software. We are not networked. File and printer sharing are disabled on both PCs.

We did not browse the same sites in the last 24 hours.

We have different kinds of PCs manufactured by different companies.

How does this thing find victims? What do I do to avoid it?

So far, it appears that I have the systems back up and running. I ran regedit and modified the related entries.

I really want to know how this one attacks since it is the first time anything has been successful.

The fact that two PCs got clobbered in the same house over 12 hours apart really has my curiosity.

I am not interested in really technical answers. Just concepts will do fine.

    Thank you.

  • Good 5+ megapixel STILL Camera?

I took on a project photographing in businesses. I will need to be on site up to two hours photographing interior shots and transmitting them to my client later.

I was told belatedly the pictures need to be 5+ megapixels which my camera is not. I am concerned about battery life and storage.

I have been loaned a dvd camcorder, but I would prefer a camera that I KNOW will give me STILL photos.

While I understand what SLR is, I am less concerned about that than finding a reasonably priced still camera that will take pictures inside and have some zoom ability.

My current camera is the Olympus C-700 with a good number of features. It has met all my needs until now.

Please include why you recommend what you do.

    Thank you.

  • DVD Handycam® Camcorder STILL PHOTOS?

My sister loaned me a SONY DCR-DVD650 Handycam® Camcorder for a project that requires STILL photos with a 5 magapixel minimum. I am told the project can take up to 2 hours at the location.

I have never used a camcorder for STILL photos. I am concerned how many STILL photos will fit in the 8 gig memory stick. How can I know that they will be 5 megapixels or better?

    Will I need extra batteries?

Thanks to all who provide helpful responses.

  • DNA Ancestry - Best bang for the buck?

Should I get a DNA test on myself on my mother? (Dad is deceased.)

    Our thinking/goals:

My mother's family lore says her father's line was partly American Indian about 3 generations back or so. We have talked about getting her DNA tested with the single goal answering that question.

I recently looked at some sites that offer ancestry DNA testing. The more I read, the more I get confused.

I get the impression that my DNA test would give her answer plus some possible other unrelated answers such as Cumberland Gap lines on both sides or at least my Dad's.

With a limited budget, would you do a full 30-67 panel on me or do tests on both of us as the budget allows?

  • Have you taken the AARP Driver Safty Course? On line?

I'm trying to get a better idea if I should take the AARP Safe Driving Course on line. How long did it take you on line?

If you have attended the course or taken it on line what did you think of it? I take care of someone, so I do not want to be away for 5 hours for two days.

This question is only about the AARP Safe Driving course. ... NOT the driver's ed we all took in high school. Not about a course offered by any other organization.

I can get an insurance discount if I take the course.

  • Death of Spouse affect credit? what factors?

I have a relative whose spouse died unexpectedly. All property (car. house, rental property, bank accounts)

    was titled WROS.

The attorney advising her stated that the survivor is NOT liable for the deceased credit card debts. The survivor was an authorized user only.

Second opinions from those in the industry are sought. Those who have been this path are also invited to respond.

    1) Is the attorney correct?

    2) How much of a battle will the credit card issuers make?

    3) Will they force her to disclose the will and formally probate it? Since the survivor is the sole heir by WROS, most matters are being handled without formal probate under small estate probate law.

    4) How would such action affect the survivor's credit report?

    5) Any related matters that I am overlooking?

Community Property laws do NOT apply as they lived in a state that is NOT considered a Community Property state.

  • Hear Say evidence - layman's defination?

In court, when you are a witness, what is permissible to say that someone else told you and when is it "Hear Say"?

Example 1: Mary told Bob who told me Mary took the book.

I would then be able to say what on the stand? (Assume that is all I know.)

Example 2: Bill told me that he took the book. Same question.

Please offer a better example if you will.

I would appreciate some guidance what the limitations are on a witness under this rule.

    How is it properly typed?

    Thanks in advance.

  • Tax treatment for a discounted bond?

We bought a 6% APR bond from a well known brokerage at a deep discount .... about 85 cents on the dollar. It's still investment grade, but we understand that it could go either way.

    Assume all goes well.

Assume the bond matures in 10 years and pays the semi-annual dividend on time.

When do we declare the discount interest on our taxes? I was thinking we would do so when the bond cashes out in ten years. Will that extra money be interest or capital gain?

IF I sell the bond at a profit in the future before it matures ... say 90 cents on the dollar, would that change the discount received from interest to capital gains?

Please cite your basis for your answer.

    Thank you in advance.
