  • Why is my computer ringing?

Every few minutes my computer spontaneously "rings". Just once. It sounds like a phone ringing. I just hooked up new speakers to it but it was ringing before my old ones gave out too (short in wire...) Is something wrong with my sound card?

  • Chile Rellenos-Where did I go wrong?

I recently attempted to make chile rellenos and they were a disaster! I went through a bunch of recipes for them and every recipe called for you to roast and peel the chiles (I used big, beautiful Anaheims) first. So, I did. Roasted them under the broiler until they got nice and blackened all over, then put them in an airtight container to cool before peeling. After peeling and seeding them, they were completely soggy and too delicate to stuff with any meaningful amount of cheese. After stuffing them I floured them, dipped them in a batter, and then rolled them in cornmeal. They tasted pretty good but the were ugly as sin and a pain in the rear to make. When I make stuffed green peppers I parboil the peppers first so that the skins are easier to eat. I'm wondering if this method might work better for this dish, too. I want my rellenos to look like the ones you get in restaurants -STUFFED with cheese, preferably with the pepper stems still on because it looks nice.....

Are there any good Mexican cooks out there who can give me any pointers?

  • Can census takers enter your home when you aren't there?

"Census workers can enter your apartment in your absence | The Barr Code

By Belisarius on May 27, 2010 11:33 PM | No Comments | No TrackBacks

Thousands of census workers, including many temporary employees, are fanning out across America to gather information on the citizenry. This is a process that takes place not only every decade in order to complete the constitutionally-mandated census; but also as part of the continuing "American Community Survey" conducted by the Census Bureau on a regular basis year in and year out.

What many Americans don't realize, is that census workers -- from the head of the Bureau and the Secretary of Commerce (its parent agency) down to the lowliest and newest Census employee -- are empowered under federal law to actually demand access to any apartment or any other type of home or room that is rented out, in order to count persons in the abode and for "the collection of statistics." If the landlord of such apartment or other leased premises refuses to grant the government worker access to your living quarters, whether you are present or not, the landlord can be fined $500.00.

That's right -- not only can citizens be fined if they fail to answer the increasingly intrusive questions asked of them by the federal government under the guise of simply counting the number of people in the country; but a landlord must give them access to your apartment whether you're there or not, in order to gather whatever "statistics" the law permits.

In fact, some census workers apparently are going even further and demanding -- and receiving -- private cell phone numbers from landlords in order to call tenants and obtain information from them. Isn't it great to live in a "free" country?"

I think this article is BS....I read through all of Title 13 of the US Code and I find NOWHERE that it states census workers can enter your home while you are not there, in fact they are not even allowed to ask for permission to enter your home if you ARE there..... I suppose, for purposes of the article, that it just depends on what your definition of "can" is....

  • "The Sopranos" Question?

just finished watching the final episode of "The Sopranos" on A&E....Admittedly, I have missed a few episodes in this season. I saw the part where Pauley is ever-faithful to Tony and ends up with the stray cat. I saw Phil Leotardo's already dead head get run over by his own SUV...I saw Tony go and visit Silvio in the hospital. Silvio is hooked up to a ventilator and apparently not doing so good...Can somebody please tell me what happened to Silvio? Why is he in the hospital?

  • Arrested for being naked at home?

The police are out of control! For that matter, so are their wives!

Do you think that Williamson would have been arrested if he were a naked woman making coffee in her own kitchen? Doubtful. What next? Will they start arresting all victims of Peeping Toms too?

  • Any Chili's Employees Out There?

I ate at a Chili's restaurant in Colorado yesterday. I had the Mesquite Grilled Chicken Salad. For ninety-nine cents you could have "avocado slices" added to your salad so I said, "sure, why not?" I got my salad and it was delicious, however, I was somewhat perplexed by the "avocado" that was on my salad! This thing was no ordinary avocado! It did not have the consistency of a fresh avocado and it tasted like absolutely *nothing*. This Frankenstein avocado seemed to be a "chopped, chunked, formed" type food substance with a bright green outside that was painted on the outside with green food coloring (in the tradition of that fake crab meat stuff, painted pink on the outside). This substance was not held out to be any kind of guacamole but an actual avocado slice. So, my question to any Chili's workers is- Does Chili's use fake avocados? Is there such a thing as a fake avocado?

  • Is this anti-virus software for real?

I keep getting messages from an anti-virus program that I never even installed! Of course to get all their crappy warnings (along the lines of your computer will BLOW UP!) to go away, I have to go to their website and buy their product. I already had anti-virus software on my computer and when I run it, it says everything is fine....Is this a scam?

  • Who should pay for Michael Jackson's funeral?

They're already fighting about this. Apparently, the state of California, broke as it is, cannot afford the police/fire/traffic/emergency services that a funeral of this magnitude will require. Who should foot the bill for this? The taxpayers of California (don't forget, they are MAKING money from this spectacle), AEG, Jackson's promotional company, or, as in very bad taste it has been suggested, Jackson's family? I remember back in 1977 Memphis was deluged for Elvis' funeral but I don't seem to remember anything about them sending Priscilla a bill for it.

    What do you think?
