  • What's the most famous place in Rhode Island?

Is there something in Rhode Island that would be known nationwide? For example, Johns Hopkins hospital is famous outside of Maryland, but not everyone knows it's in Maryland. Or Harvard University for Massachusetts. Or Mount Rushmore for South Dakota. In other words: What's the most famous thing I didn't realize was in Rhode Island?

  • Does anyone know the children's book I'm talking about?

I had this book in the '70s but it may be older. It had several adventure stories with sequential panels and no words. The art style was like a newspaper comic strip (think Wizard of Id quality). I remember someone being scared and imagining wild animals after him, but it turned out to be his own dog. I also remember a scene with a thunderstorm and seeking shelter in a dilapidated barn or shed.

  • What uses a 3V coin cell battery?

These come with my water filters to power the reminder light, which I never use. I been saving them in hopes of finding some gadget they'll fit. Can anyone suggest something useful? For instance: do any wireless mice use them?

  • What's the spacey vocal effect in some classic rock songs?

    Here are some examples:

    1974 "Killer Queen" Queen @0:30

1977 "Life in the Fast Lane" Eagles @3:39

    1978 "Anytime" Journey @1:45

Does the effect have a name? How was it done in the analog age?

  • How long is "Sentimental Journey"?

I wanted to buy the original (Columbia 36769 by Les Brown & Doris Day) from iTunes. They had several different options that all had different times, from 2:49 to 3:50. Amazingly, they all seemed to be the same recording played at different speeds. Why would anyone do that? And does anyone know which one is right?

  • What is the last famous classical music not for a film?

When was orchestral music for it's own sake eclipsed by film scores? I know people still compose classical music for concert halls, but nothing with widespread popularity. Basically, what's the last piece of classical music most people know when they hear it? (I think I know, but I want to hear what you think.)

  • Can someone answer Battlestar Galactica questions w/o spoilers?

I am in the middle of season 2, so please don't answer questions with info from later seasons. Just say, "You'll find out later."

    1. Why is Kobol uninhabited?

    2. Why are they still looking for Earth when they've found Kobol? Do they expect Earth to be inhabited by people capable of fighting the Cylons for them? Was Earth supposedly colonized by Kobol or the other way round?

    3. What's up with Tricia Helfer's character? Can all Cylons cause hallucinations in any human? Why don't they use that power all the time?

    4. Early on, there was some substance on a space station that adversely affected a Cylon. Adama figured it out, but this info was not used to make a Cylon detector. Was that ever explained?

    5. Galactica can detect ships leaving the convoy. How did Lucy Lawless (Season 2, Episode 8) get away to report in person to the Cylons?

*Bonus. How can people smoke on a spaceship that has no secure source of oxygen? Are they growing tobacco on one of the ships instead of food? Is the show funded by Phillip Morris?

    Thanks.

  • Why won't YouTube videos pre-load any more?

I used to be able to pause a YouTube video and watch it after it loaded completely. This avoided random pauses for buffering. Now when I pause one, the pre-loading bar pauses too. I also can't seem to watch YouTube vids imbedded in other sites - I have to go to the original page to keep it from being choppy. I use Safari on Mac OS 10.6.8.

  • Can anyone explain Article II, Section 1 of the US Constitution?

"The Electors shall meet in their respective States, and vote by Ballot for two Persons, of whom one at least shall not be an Inhabitant of the same State with themselves." When it says "two Persons" does that mean one for president and one for VP, or does that mean they must vote for two presidential candidates? Are both votes given equal weight? How does this work?

  • Recommend a good true western?

I'd like to know the titles of good western movies that are true stories, have sharp attention to historical detail, and are suitable for family viewing (parents and tweens). Thanks.

  • What comedy movies defined their decades?

"The Seven Year Itch" (1955), to me, is the quintessential '50s movie. Marilyn Monroe was an icon of that decade, the story reflected the attitudes of the day, and the sets were typical of the period. What movies do that for other decades?

Rules: They must be comedies. They must be set in the year they were made. They must feature a star who is commonly associated with the decade.

  • Is it safe to email a DXDIAG report?

2kgames, the makers of Civ V, sent me this email in response to my complaint of a bug in the game. Is there any risk in doing what they ask? On the other hand, is there any possible benefit to me? (The bug is in the game itself and many other people have encountered it.)

"To further assist you with your problem we require you to send us a DXDIAG report from your computer. To do this:

    - If you're using Windows XP, click Start on your computers desktop, then click the Run icon . Or if you're using windows Vista\7 Press the "R" and "Windows logo" keys on you keyboard.

    - Type the word "dxdiag" (without the ") into the text box and press OK.

    - In the bottom right hand side of the screen, click the "Save All Information" button.

    - Save the dxdiag.txt file to your desktop.

    - Attach the file to your reply to this email.

With the information contained within the DXDIAG report we will be able to investigate your problem further."

  • WIll "The Good Guys" be picked up?

I am a big fan of "The Good Guys" but not a fan of Fox. They cancelled their only good non-animated show. Does anyone know if another network is going to pick it up?

  • Is Luke Skywalker the King of Naboo?

He is Queen Amidala's first-born, and she is dead, so isn't Luke the rightful heir? Also, if Leia was in hiding all her life, why did they still call her Princess? Or was she posing as princess of Alderaan? And if so, wouldn't she be addressed as Queen Leia after Alderaan was destroyed? Can you be queen of a planet that no longer exists? How many Alderaanians survived by being off-planet? Are there any colonies she could rule?

With "You Haven't Seen the Last of Me" from the movie Burlesque at #1 on the Billboard Club chart, Cher has added the 10's to her list of decades with #1 singles. Has anyone else had a streak like this?

    1971 "Gypsys, Tramps & Thieves" (#1 Billboard Hot 100)

1989 "If I Could Turn Back Time" (#1 Billboard Adult Contemporary)

    1998 "Believe" (#1 Billboard Hot 100)

2002 "Song for the Lonely" (#1 Billboard Club)

2010 "You Haven't Seen the Last of Me" (#1 Billboard Club)
