How do Montessoris differ from regular pre-schools?

Is there a way to take blood from a 22-month-old baby other than holding the arm down and injecting into a vein in the arm like they do with an adult? The first time this was done, the baby screamed and thrashed about so much, got so distressed and overheated that the parents decided "never again". Now the doctor has recommended another blood test for something. I kow that they take blood from the heel in newborns. Can they do this for older babies?

I know that, over all, it's better to have a short time of screaming and distress if it means a possible discovery of something vital, but still ...

I seem to remember reading somewhere that you should never apply lavender oil directly onto the skin.

Has anyone heard of this?

I have been using olive oil but I read somewhere that it's not the best thing for french fries.

I've just been reading the answers to another asker about school starting times in USA. I'm shocked at the early starting times. Starting school at 7 or 7.30am in the winter must be very hard. You'd have to get up at dawn and it would still be dark outside during morning lessons. Must be torture for some children. It would seem like the middle of the night, surely.

In Australia the starting time is closer to 9am - but some high school start about 8.30.

What is the situation in other countries? I'm curious.

I've tried all kinds of things but she's not interested. Maybe a bit of toast to nibble on. She used to like yogurt but doesn't like that any more. She loves breast milk, won't take a bottle. She seems healthy and happy enough and is just a small baby, but it's very worrying that she won't eat. No teeth yet.
