  • How to coordinate with a dark brown accent wall?

My future apartment comes with a dark brown accent wall. It is the longest wall in the living/dining area, directly opposite the entryway. The only "window" is a sliding glass door in the short wall to the right of the entryway.

What would be the best color(s) to look for when choosing curtains for the sliding door, decorations, etc. to coordinate with the accent wall and hopefully compensate for the lack of natural light?

  • Kermit's Alphabet in the Swamp: Recording?

I am looking for a recording, mp3 or video, of the "Bayou Alphabet," also known as Kermit's alphabet in the swamp. It starts out: "A-alligator, B-bayou, C is for cyprus trees..."

I have looked on YouTube as well as doing a general internet search but have only found the lyrics.

  • American Airlines Underseat Storage Dimensions?

What are the dimensions of the underseat storage space on American Airlines flights? I'm sure they vary; I'll gladly take any sourced dimensions since I'm not certain what type of aircraft we're flying on. Thank you for your responses.

  • Ironing Taffeta to Remove Wrinkles After a Flight?

I will be a bridesmaid in a June wedding that I will have to fly to, and I am concerned about transporting my dress. DH and I would prefer to use a garment bag for his suit and my bridesmaid's dress, leaving 1 carry-on for all our other clothing, but the one we currently own exceeds the airline's carry-on limit of 45 linear inches (length+width+height). Even that one will cause some wrinkles in my dress. The place we are staying does have an iron and ironing board, though. So, I have 2 questions:

    1) Can you iron taffeta with a regular iron?

    2) What garment bag would you recommend that we can carry on the plane?

  • What to wear to our alumni dinner on a budget?

DH and I will be attending an alumni dinner in three weeks for

the college he graduated from and I formerly attended. It will be in the Dallas/Fort Worth area at an upper-scale Mexican grill. Having only seen our alums during formal events on campus, I have no idea what to wear to this dinner, and would like to spend as little money as possible. I am 23.

    I already have:

    1. Green paisley v-neck dress with fluttery sleeves. Looks very nice on me, but needs something, like a belt. What belt styles are in for this spring? Length needs heels; what type of heeled sandals?

    2. Black pencil skirt and cute heels, but no spring/summer tops to go with it.

    3. A tan, almost tweed-looking cotton suit. It is more of a fall style. Do not have appropriate shoes to go with it.

    Things I could get:

    1. Assuming they have one in my size, the Career Services Office at my university gives away free suits for interviews.

Your suggestions will be welcome. Thanks!

  • Gifted & Talented Adults: Resources?

Gifted and talented (GT) children become GT adults, but surprisingly, I am not finding many resources for them. The challenges we face don't disappear, and I am finding the transition to adulthood has created many more. Are there any other resources out there for GT adults besides the GT World mailing list?

  • Ortho Tri-cyclen Lo: Similar Generics?

I will be changing health insurance soon and may need a different form of birth control. I currently use Ortho Lo and am mostly happy with it. I know Ortho Tri-cyclen Lo does not have a generic yet, but are there other low-hormone contraceptives that have generics similar to Ortho Lo? If you know of any, could you please include links to information about them in your answers?

(Unfortunately, ALL the women in my extended family have to use low-hormone contraceptives, so any info you have to share is welcome)

  • How much to pay for carpooling?

I am trying to set up a carpool with a fellow student. Since my family is down to one vehicle, I would like to ride all the time. What would be a proper amount to offer the person driving based on miles per gallon, cost of gas, etc? Is there a formula for this, or would a flat rate per mile be more appropriate?

It currently costs me about $7.50 in gas every time I make the trip, but I don't know how to factor in other costs.

    Thanks!

  • Use less water to rinse when washing by hand?

  • Contemporary Goddess Worship: What are the roles of Men?

My class viewed a film on contemporary feminist spirituality this morning that mostly focused on Goddess worship and featured very few men. Because of this, the one male who decided to attend class today asked if the men in these religions play any specific roles. Half of the women in the class immediately jumped down his throat and said rather ugly things to him, but I think it was a legitimate question for someone who knows nothing about the religion. Are there specific roles for men and women within these belief systems? Sources to email and/or post would be appreciated!

  • 2002 Ford Taurus Transmission Rebuild Price?

Saturday afternoon as we were driving down the street, my car suddenly stopped moving forward. We could press on the gas pedal, but no movement. After having it towed to the shop Saturday, we were informed today that the entire transmission needs to be rebuilt and were quoted $2293 to do it. Compared to other vehicles we have had this problem with, this is an atrocious amount of money. Are we being screwed, or is this a normal amount?

(In case you need to know, the transmission fluid was last changed in July 2006)

  • How to pack 4 trip to Washington D.C. in late May?

I am taking a trip to Washington, D.C. with a class in late May 2008 for 8 days. I have never been to that part of the country at that time of year. Assuming I'm not able to do laundry mid-trip (other than small things in the sink), what should I pack that will be appropriate for the weather and will all fit in one carry-on bag?

    Thanks in advance!

  • Time exists in a vacuum?

What is the meaning of the phrase "time exists in a vacuum?"

I'm trying to make a point in a paper about some literary characters whose lives seem to be stuck in a continuous loop, destined to repeat with each generation, but I don't think the phrase means what I want it to mean.

  • Should I drop this history class?

I am taking 17 credit hours this semester. I am a terrible procrastinator and won't be able to finish both the 5-7 page paper and the take-home exam that are due in one of my 4000-level history classes this week. The professor is expecting VERY polished essays. I could finish the exam on time, but not the paper. If I don't do the paper, I automatically get a C in the class (which I fully deserve) if I work hard on everything else. Or, I can drop the class, take something else in the spring, and still graduate in May. I really like this professor's classes.

I am working 12 hrs/week because I am taking 17 hours. Money is very tight, which stresses my family and hurts my grades. If I drop the class, I can work another 4-8 hours a week, and we would be a little bit happier. I won't have to work in the spring and will have more time to study.

Should I take the lower grade and work more now, or drop this class and try to do better in the spring? Thanks in advance.

  • Better to freeze or can soup?

I am about to head back to school and am wanting to pre-make several types of soup and stews for my husband since I won't be home several nights a week. (Yes, he can cook, but he will be more likely to go out to eat if there isn't something already there) What I would like to know is if it is better to freeze or to can soups and stews. My instinct says it is better to freeze them, but I have very little freezer space and no extra room in my apartment for a chest or upright freezer. I do have lots of nooks and crannies where I could put canning jars, though. Whichever method you recommend, are there certain ingredients you would recommend leaving out, such as potatoes, and adding them at the time the soup is made? Also, is it a good idea to freeze or can pasta, or should we add that later? Thanks in advance for your help!

  • Tulsans! "Bell of Life & Death" & the "Center of the Universe"?

Hello Tulsans! Here's a question just for you:

While visiting Tulsa, I have been downtown to visit the "Center of the Universe" and "The Bell of Life and Death" twice. I would like to know more about them. Why were they constructed? Who is the "bell's" sculptor? Does the sculpture have a different name?

    Thanks in advance.
