Why didn't my Coastal glasses work out?
I purchased some glasses online (for the first time) from Coastal using my current, up-to-date script. I did not have my PD, but had someone measure it for me. When I received the glasses, the lenses were way off. They were off-center. I asked the people at Coastal if they thought it was the PD or another measurement that measures pupils (that they failed to request). They were very pleasant, but they didn't know. So I called Lens Crafters (where I was seen by the doctor, both in August 2013 and October 2013) to check on my PD. They told me it was 64, and I had listed it as 63. The people at Coastal said that the PD has about 3 mm for error (in other words, being off by 1, wouldn't throw it off).
So my guess is that my previous glasses were made using an additional measurement that Coastal doesn't ask for, but nobody has been able to confirm this. For reference, I don't think my script is strong enough that I'd be in the category of people who simply cannot purchase glasses online. It's 5.25 in one eye and 5.00 in the other. Any thoughts on why these glasses didn't work for me? I do realize they are cheaper quality, but there has to be more to it. They were simply off-center and my peripheral was off.
1 AnswerOptical7 years agoWhat happens if you miss a package arriving via Royal Mail?
I live in a small owner occupied building and the land lady doesn't allow delivery people in the building (not kidding, obviously wasn't told this prior to lease signing and its not written into the lease). I have a package coming from London via Royal Mail that isn't trackable (starts with "RML"). I have received a package from them before, but she has gotten worse since then. She has yelled at me for buzzing in a delivery person and has physically prevented one from accessing the building, though I still received my package. I am concerned about either not being home or not getting downstairs in time.
When they came with the last RM package, it was Sat morning and I was sleeping. I buzzed him (I guess she wasn't around) he left the package and I got it and brought it up to my apt. However, I am not supposed to buzz these people in (and btw no, I don't think this is acceptable. I have asked to be let out of the lease) so I'm afraid that if I don't buzz the person in, they will leave. Obviously, if I hear the buzzer, I will run downstairs. But I have no way of knowing what day they'll be here or what time and I live on the top floor. I don't want him to leave while I'm on my way down. Where would an RM package go, if the person couldn't leave it? I know USPS packages end up at the post office for a few days, UPS go to the nearest UPS center etc. But where would an RM package go? I would think it wouldn't be immediately returned to sender. That wouldn't make sense. Anyone know about this?
*Also, the last one arrived with a customs form on it, so I assume this one will too, if that matters.
2 AnswersLondon8 years agoDry Cleaners Ruined Coat. What can you do?
My mom had her coat cleaned last season and brought it home. She never took it out of the plastic as she uses these cleaners all the time. She took it out this past weekend as its getting cold now. Turns out they shrunk the coat and destroyed the zipper. The coat is essentially garbage. It was a beautiful coat and very expensive. I know if it had just come back, they'd have to do something. But like I said, she just took it out of the plastic. It has been in her closet for about 3 mths. What are her options now? She's going to go in and ask to be reimbursed. But I'd like to know if anyone has experience with holding cleaners responsible after the fact.
Thanks!
2 AnswersCleaning & Laundry9 years agoWhat kind of Rockin Green do I buy?
Unfortunately, my cat is having an issue (likely a urine infection) and I'm gonna take her to the vet but I need to wash the clothes that were affected. I read that Rockin Green is good for getting urine out of clothes. Most of the clothes I need it for are dark though. Does this product contain bleach? Which one is good for light and dark clothes? I was looking at this one:
2 AnswersCleaning & Laundry9 years agoWhy is my cat peeing in things that aren't the litter box?
Obviously, I have to take her to the vet. But this is the second time she has peed somewhere (outside of the litter box) in the past few weeks. Tonight, it was an open suitcase. Last time, it was a box that still had packing in it to cushion the item that was mailed. In both cases, her litter box was clean or relatively clean and nearby. She isn't exhibiting any strange behavior other than the fact that she whines a lot beforehand. I'm in a new apt and I just came back from being away for the night. Any ideas? She isn't very old. She will be 5 in April and she has had all her shots.
5 AnswersCats9 years agoWhat does it mean to rewire a lamp?
I know it means that you're changing the wiring in some way, but I'm asking about the specific process. I'm trying to buy some vintage lamps on Ebay, and figured I would have to rewire the ones that haven't been rewired by the sellers. I wrote to one seller asking if the lamps had been rewired and they responded "yes, they have new sockets." I wrote to another seller for another listing and the response was "yes, they have new cords." Are they both correct? Does rewiring entail changing the both the sockets, and the cords? It looks that way, from looking at lamp kits, but I wanted to get more detailed information.
6 AnswersMaintenance & Repairs9 years agoIs caprylyl glycol a "good" glycol?
I always avoid "glycols" in hair and skin products because I thought they were categorized as petrochemicals. However, I've read some information lately that seems to say that caprylyl glycol is plant derived. Is this correct? I also read an article that said butylene glycol was "the safest glycol." Can somebody weigh in on this? Please provide your source, if you comment! Thanks guys!
1 AnswerChemistry1 decade agoWhat does it mean when you see "iron oxides" in makeup? (this might be more of a chemistry question)?
Do iron oxides include ultramarines, ferrous-ferric oxide, and chomium green oxide? Or do they only include these when mentioned separately? I'm asking b/c these seem to be the less safe oxides. I'm really not sure if any of them are safe at this point, but I figure mineral makeup is better than what I was using before :/

Can anyone suggest some careers in women's health that you don't need a medical degree for? Preferably something psychologically or psycho sexually related?

Can people talk about the possible careers that are available to people who major in women/gender studies in undergrad and grad school? I don't want to teach or advocate. Any ideas?
Thanks guys!
7 AnswersGender Studies1 decade agoWhat is the best way to get rid of cell phone telemarketers?
I have been receiving spam calls on my cell phone for almost a year now. I googled some of the numbers and found out that they are coming from Portfolio Recovery Associates. I have read several threads where I learned other people have been harassed as well. They call me asking for "Carmen Ortiz." FYI, this is not my first or last name and I am not related to anyone by this name. I also have excellent credit. I have never had any credit issues in my life.
I don't ever answer the calls, but they continue to call and leave messages for this (fake?) person. Other people have said that telling them to stop or writing to them only makes them worse. I did tell them to stop once but of course that did nothing. I'm also on the cell phone "do not call" list. I don't understand why this isn't illegal? My phone carrier said I can block them if I pay extra for a service that will block any unwanted calls. I don't think that is fair. I never had these kinds of calls when I was with other cell phone providers (I'm with AT & T) What can I do?
4 AnswersLaw & Ethics1 decade agoHow do you prepare for Grad School if your major is not the subject you want to pursue further?
Ok, I know the wording may sound strange but I wasn't sure how to abbreviate my question. The actual question is as follows.
I am going to graduate soon with a BA in Political Science, but I want to pursue an MA and/or PhD in Psych. My friend (who is a PhD) told me that it probably wouldnt matter that I didn't major in psych in undergrad. She said my school of choice may ask me to go back and take some psych classes. How would you do that if you already have your BA? In other words, do you enroll the same way you would if you were working toward a second BA or do you enroll as unmatriculated?
The reason I'm asking is b/c the school I'm attending requires you to pass certain math courses in order to take the psych courses most grad schools require. So I was wondering if I take them as a non matriculated student after I've already graduated, would I stll need to pass the prerequisites? Or would it not matter b/c I could take them as a non-matriuculated student?
1 AnswerHigher Education (University +)1 decade agoWhat kinds of jobs are available in social science?
I have studied sociology and political science throughout my college career. I'm thinking about changing my major to psychology but I don't know what I want to do exactly. I just know that I don't want to teach, do research, or be a social worker. I know this makes my options very slim and I'm pretty sure I don't want to do therapy either. Can anyone give me some suggestions?
Some things I'm interested in are: women's sexual health, the way the brain works and why some people develop learning disabilities and/or mental illness, sex and gender studies, and hormonal imbalances.
FYI, one of the reasons I don't want to teach is b/c I have social and generalized anxiety. I just can't see myself standing up in front of a class and talking every day.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
1 AnswerOther - Social Science1 decade agoDo Psychology degrees require a lot of math?
I am asking b/c I'm going back to school after a few years and I was thinking of changing my major to psych. The school I attend requires you to pass either precalculus, calculus or a 100 level statistics class before you can declare a psych major.
I think I may be able to pass the stats class but I have dyscalculia (math learning disability) and I wonder if I will need more math when I continue on to grad school and beyond?
I just want to be realistic about my goals. Please only respond if you have a Bachelor's in psych or more. I'm not trying to discount anyone, but if you haven't studied/taught the curriculum, I don't know how else you would know.
4 AnswersMathematics1 decade agoWhy can't I sleep next to anyone?
I'm 28 yrs old and I cannot sleep next to anyone. I often can't even fall asleep next to my mom and I am closer to her than anyone. Not only can I not sleep next to the person I'm dating, I can't even sleep well if someone is in my apt- even if they are on the couch. This makes relationships extremely hard and the depression/sad mood I get the day after having no sleep causes me to feel even more sad.
It interferes in my life in a major way. FYI, I have ADD (and have read threads about other ADDers having this problem), SAD and GAD and features of BPD.
I take it that ADDers with this problem find it to be a space issue. But I think for me, it is about a few things. I suspect it is also an intimacy/closeness issue for me.
Are there people out there with this problem? Anyone able to overcome it? I'd especially like to hear from those with BPD or features of BPD since I suspect it may be an intimacy issue.
Please only respond if you can relate. Thanks everyone!
