I enjoy the discourse and knowing others' thoughts. By the way, the adorable baby is my son. I was never that cute!
Best study habits and methods for learning Japanese (reading and writing kana and kanji and speaking)?
I have already purchased and am using Rosetta Stone and I believe it to be a quality product, but I would appreciate any additional advice from those who have successfully done it. I am an American English native speaker.
Please do not answer if you cannot be respectful to me and to others. Thanks.
4 AnswersLanguages2 decades agoWhy do photographers seem to believe that digital technology is a direct replacement for film for all purposes
Isn't it more appropriate to recognize that there are things that digital does much better and more efficiently than film, but that film also has tremendous strengths that digital technology cannot match? I'm looking for a lively and thoughtful debate, you guys. And to the victor belongs the spoils (10 points!).
9 AnswersPhotography2 decades agoHow would the works of Riis, Hine, Lange & other documentary photogs differ if digital were available to them?
Space dictated that I word the question in a less-than-optimal way. This is what I want to know from you: How would the works of Jacob Riis, Lewis Hine, Dorothea Lange and other documentary photographers have been different if digital technology had been available to them during their careers? Please give a thoughtful answer to what I hope is a thoughtful question. I look forward to reading your thoughts. Thanks.
1 AnswerPhotography2 decades agoFilm users only: Do you agree that, artistically-speaking, black and white film is obsolete?
I've read that, since color film can be easily converted to black and white with satisfactory results, it no longer makes sense to shoot any subject on black and white film unless one enjoys the antiquated process of using black and white and developing and printing it in a home lab. Is that your opinion?
7 AnswersPhotography2 decades agoBig Love: Which is the hottest wife? Why?
I think they're all lovely, but I really like Margine. She's just simple, playful, sweet, and enthusiastic.

I love lots of shows on BBC-America, including My Family, My Hero, Little Britain, and Father Ted (old reruns)
20 AnswersTelevision2 decades agoLittle Britain Fans: Which is your favorite character and why?
I like the former Olympic gymnast ("So I'm finally gonna meet the woman who destroyed our mar-ri-auge?"). But most of the characters are a hoot!

3 AnswersMental Health2 decades agoWhat do you think of the maxim "Those who know better, are responsible for doing better?"?
I'm interested in as many diverse views on this as possible, but I am, in particular interested in the thoughts of young African Americans. Thanks all!
2 AnswersCultures & Groups2 decades agoAfrican Americans: What's the best answer you give to those who call you sell-out because you're educated?
When I was a kid, my mother insisted that I learn to speak well, and not rely upon the "street" language that was quite common in my neighborhood. I resisted it then, but now believe that it was a key aspect contributing to my success as an educated adult professional. Still, when dealing with those who are less educated or accomplished, I sometimes detect a resentment that makes me sad. I am tremendously proud of my culture and consider myself one example of the many accomplished people to emerge triumphant from a similar background of disadvantage. I also remain very involved with "the community" by mentoring, volunteering, speaking, and financially contributing. Can anyone identify with my feelings? How do you cope? What advice can you offer? Thank you in advance.

31 AnswersMusic2 decades agoHow do I rid old, collectible magazines of the musty smell or odor from cigarette smoke without damage to them
I have begun purchasing old, historical issues of Life, Look, and Ebony from different vendors. Some vendors ship the items to me and it is clear that the issues have been allowed to take on the musty smell of a basement or, worse, the smell of cigarette smoke. Is there some safe way to "air them out" so that I can retain the issues, but lose the smells? Thanks in advance.
