  • Reccomend a travel site to Greece?

My husband and I are planning to go to Greece in June or July of this year. I have been looking around online to see if I can find a site that deals in travel packages to Greece, specifically, Santorini. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions?

  • How to deal with husband who chews tobacco?

My husband has been smoking chewing tobacco for a very long time. He quit both before we got engaged two and a half years ago. For whatever reason, he's started chewing tobacco again. It's DISGUSTING. His whole family lives here and he won't tell them he's doing it because he knows they'll give him a hard time about it. He came home a few weeks ago with this spot in his mouth and was hysterical thinking he had mouth cancer. He got it checked out and it's not cancer. You'd think that would have been enough to get him to stop chewing, but nope!

I'm totally ticked off about this. I think it's gross and I shouldn't have to sit around and watch him do it. Every other day he tells me he's going to quit and he'll throw it away. Then he sneaks out to buy more and starts doing it all over again. When I say anything about it, he launches into this whole "Oh, well I guess you're perfect" tirade. I don't know how to deal with this. It just makes me SO mad.

  • Bridges vs. partial dentures - thoughts?

My dad lives near Memphis, TN. I've noticed that he has trouble eating because of tooth pain. My brother says that my dad needs a new bridge or partial dentures. I'm trying to look into this procedure to decide which would be more cost effective (he doesn't have dental insurance) and I can't find ANY information about this. Does anyone have any idea how the costs compares between bridges and partial dentures?

  • How do you feel about upgrading your diamond?

My husband did not want to go with me to pick out engagement rings. He hates shopping in all forms. :) So, I went with his sister and found my perfect ring. Then my husband (then fiance, of course) came with me to buy the ring. He held onto it for three months before he proposed. We married in October 2009.

The place we bought the engagement ring has an upgrade policy. If I take the diamond in, they will give us the full purchase price toward an upgrade. I really had no plans of upgrading, because I love my ring. But, I was in there the other day with a friend who's looking for rings and I noticed that the price of diamonds has dropped dramatically since we bought ours in April 2008! I started looking at diamonds and can get a 1.31 carat diamond for about $400 more than what we paid for my .87 carat one! You could have pushed me over with a feather - I was shocked.

So, I started thinking about whether or not I should take advantage of the price drop and upgrade while the economy is in the crapper. We aren't wealthy, but we could probably swing the upgrade and not have to put anything on credit cards. But, is it horribly tacky to upgrade when we've only been married since October 2009?

  • Addressing Save the Dates - Is Calligraphy Necessary?

I am having the wedding invitation addressed by a calligrapher (she's a close friend and not chargine me). But, is it necessary to have the Save the Dates also calligraphed? Can I just hand address them and save the calligraphy for the invitations themselves? Or will it look funny to do one and not the other?

  • Is this a reasonable quote for wedding flowers?

My florist just sent me this quote for my October 2009 wedding. Both of my SIL's got married in San Francisco and they think this is a reasonable deal based on what they paid for flowers in the Bay Area. But, I am getting married in Arkansas and the typical wedding is MUCH less than in the Bay Area. So, I just wanted to see what people thought about this estimate.

    1 bridal bouquet

    5 bridesmaids’ bouquets

    1 groom boutonnieres

    7 groomsmen/other boutonnieres

    2 corsages

    10 center pieces

Grand total will be around $750.

Flowers included in the quote are ranunculus, chocolate cosmos, hypericum berries, red Asiatic lilies, pincushion protea, roses, spray mums, wheat, standard sunflowers, and mini red/orange sunflowers.

Thoughts? And please folks, refrain from giving thumbs downs, here. I am asking for people's honest opinions, so I don't want anyone to "veto" someone else's honest opinion! Thanks!

  • Bridal Shower x 2? And timing?

I am getting married in October 2009 in Arkansas. Three of my bridesmaids live in Arkansas. I live in San Francisco along with two of my bridesmaids. I would like to have a bridal shower here (so my fiance's family and local friends can come) and another in Arkansas (so that my family and friends back home can attend without getting on a plane!).

    1) Is it "ok" to have two bridal showers? (One my MOH will host in Arkansas and my future SIL (and bridesmaid) will host here in SF)

    2) When should the bridal shower take place? They are working around my schedule (I'm an attorney), but I have no idea what to tell them as far as when to have it.

Any guidance would be helpful. Thanks in advance!

  • Need creative picture display suggestions?

I am getting married next October. I am asking all the married couples at my wedding to send me one of their wedding pictures. My idea was to display all the wedding pictures to give people something to look at during the cocktail hour (while the wedding party is taking pics). Problem is - I am drawing a blank on how to display all the pics! Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

  • Opinion on Reception Table Mock Up?

Our reception hall is white, the chairs are white, the plates are white, the linens are white... so, this is what I am thinking of trying to add a little bit of color. I used white roses because it's all they had at the grocery store this morning. :) I would probably use yellow or orange, but I'm trying to stay away from red. It's a fall wedding. Can you let me know what you think of this DIY wedding reception table?

I used a champagne organza overlay to cover the white table cloth. I used burgundy ribbon around the napkins (but, I think I may use a chocolate color instead), and then the flowers. I am particularly interested in what you think of the floral centerpiece. Not so much the colors, but just the idea. Thoughts please!

  • DIY Centerpiece #2 - Opinion Needed?

I took away the picture frames (for those of you who responded last time!) and I am curious about what you all think. Our venue: white walls, white chairs, white table cloths, white napkins, white plates. I wanted to add the colors to make it "pop" and I am planning on using colored candles (deep red maybe?) instead of the white ones here.

I checked with the venue and I am permitted candles as long as they are in a container which prevents wax from dripping on the tables or linens. While some users may not like the idea of DIY - I can do this centerpiece for less than $12. I am using a florist for the bouquets, corsages, and boutonnieres. Can't afford to have her do the centerpieces!

  • Opinion on this DIY centerpiece?

I am trying to keep the price of each centerpiece under $20. Including EVERYTHING. There are copper colored frames on each side. I am going to print out black and white photos of myself and my fiance for each frame. Then I am going to put the hurricanes on each side with roses. The candles need to sit up higher, so I am thinking of wrapping a box of candy on each table so the candlesticks can sit on top of them. Then I can send the candy home with people. :) Please tell me if this looks cheap or tacky. I can always tweak it or scrap it. Be honest!

  • What size overlays should I use on a 50" round table?

I am getting married in October 2009. Our reception site uses 50" round reception tables with white 72" square tablecloths. I want to add some type of champagne colored organza overlay to throw over the white table cloth. The overlay isn't functional, so it doesn't need to be the same size as the tablecloth. But, I want to make sure that it covers the whole top of the table, so that you can't see any of the white tablecloth on TOP of the table (I don't care if you can see it on the sides!). The vendor I found says she can make 60" square overlays, but I'm not sure if that's the right size. Thoughts? Suggestions?

  • Are there any underage clubs in San Francisco?

My fiance and I are trying to help his single-father friend plan his daughter's 18th birthday party. His daughter is turning 18 and she wants to go to a club of some sort. But - wants to include her 16 year old friends. They are not into raves. Does anyone know of any places I can take these underagers?

  • Paying for wedding ourselves. My SIL is horrified that we can't afford an open bar. Are we being tacky? ?

Neither myself or my fiance make a ton of money and we are paying for our own wedding. After inviting his HUGE family (and my much smaller one), we will have 120 guests. We are planning appetizers, formal dinner, and wedding cake. We went ahead and booked a great DJ for the reception. Other than that... we are totally skimping. I bought my dress off craigslist, my friends are doing the invitations and the flowers... you get the picture.

When looking at the alcohol list and prices... it would cost us MORE to have an open bar than to have the formal dinner. I mentioned this to my fiance's sister and his mother - they are mortified that we aren't having an open bar. Of course, his family is not chipping in AT ALL for the wedding... so do I have to listen to their opinion? Or can I just brush this off?
