5 AnswersCredit6 years agoRAID 1+0 with 4TB green drives, bad idea?
i know that they are not rated for RAID, but this is for only for media and other computers backup. that really will some action but less than 100 hours a week.
My plan is to buy 5 new WD green drives of higher capcity every couple years, to refresh the array, and sell "last generation" 5 drives. the 5th drive is to replace a failed drive.
would this be safe practice? 10K drives arent in the budget, so would 3 out 5 green drives survive moderate use for RAID for 2 years = )
BQ: raid0 two WD green would give you 128MB of HDD cache, how on earth could one user possibly use that much from two "slow as5" hard drives.
1 AnswerDesktops6 years agoRAID HDD and Cache SSD for lowwer latency?
i would like to rebuild my home server.
i would like 4x4 TB drives in RAID 1+0
i also would like to know if i could add a small SSD as a cache drive for quick access times. so the directory loads up fast while the array spins up and syncs.
Is this possible. the current itx motherboard i have allows raid but doesnt allow intel SRT. can i run an SSD for Cache under software.
i was considering running WD dual drives in RAID0 and mirroring that array but the dual drives are incredibly expensive for their capacities.
what do you suggest.

Intel uses AMD 64bit instruction set since the core duo archetechture but Intel really didnt pull ahead until the 2nd generation i Series. so what made intel suddenly so much more effcient than AMD
