  • How can you find out which AFL players are contracted and which players are uncontracted?

I'd be very interested to know who is still yet to sign with their club for 2011 (thereby making them a target for GC17)

  • West Coast Eagles: Tom Swift?

Does anyone know if he is injured, and if so when he is expected to return. I see that he hasnt played any intraclub or NAB Cup matches...

  • Breaking news from Adelaide...?

Kurt Tippett is reported to be announcing his signing with Adelaide for an extended period - thereby putting him off limits to the gold coast!

I know I don't need to ask you, Crows supporters, how terrific this news item is!

My question: do you think the GC team will be successful with ANY of their targeting? Who can you see going up there? Personally, I would have thought Tippett would be the favourite - as this is his home. Do you think they are dreaming when they say they want the likes of Ablett, Riewoldt, Brown?

    I hope they get no-one and finish 2011 with a win/loss of 2-20-0 and a percentage of 30%

(the two wins would come against Port, of course)

  • Has there ever been a better father/son duo than the Abletts?

Can you think of any others who are better?

You might argue the Cornes family? Although I don't think they cut it.

In time maybe the Watsons? Fletcher?

But I think the Abletts have it - and I really don't think there is a big enough fuss about how big it is that these two men: a father and son are amongst the best to ever play the game

  • Brownlow: Winner (overall) and top poller from your club.?

I am going to go with

G Ablett and B Vince from Adelaide.

If you think the winner is from your club, then the second-best poller from your club.

    First correct answer gets BA

  • What is the biggest mistake your club has made?

Something that, if they could go back and do it over, would have made all the difference.

It may be draft picks, letting players go, retaining coaches, etc...

For me it is letting Pavlich go. With him in the team instead of McGregor, we'd have easily had a flag in 2005 and 2006 when we made the Prelims

  • Shaun Burgoyne has quit - it's official?

Reported in the Advertiser today, Burgoyne will seek a trade to Hawthorn, or, failing that will nominate for the pre-season draft!

What should Hawthorn trade to get him and/or what should Port request?

I think they're at a very real risk of stuffing it up like they did with Nick Stevens - asking for too much, fail to make a deal and end up losing their best player with nothing in return.

  • Would Port fall even lower without Sean Burgoyne?

It has been widely reported in the Adelaide media that Sean Burgoyne wants a trade. He is (when in form) without doubt Port's best player, and I think they would be in all sorts of strife if he decided to leave to go to Victoria or Sydney.

Surely you'd all want him at your club?

  • Who is this overrated player?

Pick 2 in 2005 draft above:

Pendlbury, Ryder, Higgins, Hurn, Vince, Gilbert, Porplyzia, Priddis, Birchall, Clark.

Ranks 7th for ave disposals from 2005 draft top 15.

Comparative to similar career (Birchall) he has 461 less disposals, 26 less marks, averages 6 less disposals a game. Has never had more than 25 disposals in a game.

(Obviously we all know who it is - the point is - he is overrated.)

  • How excellent is it that the bump still lives!?

I was so impressed with Brendan Goddard's bump on Dale Thomas yesterday - but I must admit, with the state of the tribunal these days, I was worried that he might be suspended. How pleasing to see that they are taking no action over it!

Similarly, how surprising is it that Judd engaged in that behaviour!? Quite remarkable that a player of his calibre would do such a thing. Are you surprised?

    12 AnswersAustralian Rules1 decade ago
  • Do people understand the tribunal system?

I am reading all about our angst at the Buddy suspension - and how stupid it was. However, this decision is the PERFECT example of why our tribunal system is rubbish.

Under the current laws - Buddy's hit was completely ILLEGAL. I am not saying that it SHOULD be illegal - but the fact remains that the system says it was.

It was assessed as In this case, the incident was assessed as negligent (1 point), medium impact (2 points), and high contact (2 points) resulting in 5 points. For rough conduct 5 points = level 2 offence (225 points) = 2 matches.

Now, if it was assessed as reckless (which we are lucky it wasnt) it would have attracted 6 points, being a level 3 offense (335 points) and a 3 game ban!

    So, I think:

    1) It is important for people to understand how the system works; and once they have understood this;

    2) why it is so flawed.

We've seen it all year - such as a headbutt getting less than a fair bump (Port v Brisbane).

The decision about Buddy was correct, however the entire system is INCORRECT. The system needs to be changed. Your comments?
