  • Unmarried women who cover their hair for modesty or religious reasons....?

In religious traditions which require married women to cover their hair, is there a provision or custom for women who remain (or later become) unmarried? i.e. Would an Orthodox Jewish widow stop covering her hair while she remained unmarried? Do women who remain single start covering their hair when they reach a "certain age" beyond which long, loose hair would be improper? Is there an intermediate step such as the severely pulled back bun or a half-snood like cowl?

  • Anyone know of good cat insurance for basic wellness care and some accident/illness coverage?

I'm looking for something that will cover the preventative care like dental cleanings and pay a percentage of the bigger stuff. All the plans I've seen focus on the big stuff with wellness an afterthought (and a surcharge!) It seems like, with people insurance, it would be cost effective for them to cover the relatively cheap preventative stuff 100 percent so that the bigger stuff is caught before it becomes a real problem. I also want a program that insures all my cats, all together for one (preferably small) fee rather than each one individually so that if one cat doesn't use all of his benefits, the others can use his allotment. Of course I also want excellent customer service and quick reimbursement times. Does anyone know of such a plan?

  • Do I need a different wire canning jar basket for quart jars than I do for pint jars?

I've decided to put up quarts of peaches this year instead of pints. How do I get the quart jars to fit in the wire canning basket that I used last year for pint jars? Do I need a different one? If so, do I also need a bigger pot (boiling water canner) to fit it into?

  • If you are folkishly inclined but are of mixed European heritage, how do you choose a flavor of heathenism?

I am of partially Norse, partly Celtic and partly Portuguese descent. I am inclined towards the folkish ways of following the gods of your ancestors but, since I am mixed, no one particular group of gods appeals to me more than another. I can't even find any Portuguese gods since the Catholic church overran Portugal so long ago. Has any one else wrestled with this sort of problem?

  • Why does Excel make a hash of my formatting when I am previewing it?

One of the reasons I use Excel's Print Preview is to be sure that I have all my formatting straightened out. However, Excel's Print Preview image usually doesn't match my formatting. Even though it prints fine, borders are shown thicker, thinner or absent altogether. These errors change when I zoom in on the image, usually for the better but not always. Sometimes a line that was correct is now too thin or thick. Is this an Excel bug (and is there a fix or a patch I can download and update my software with) or is this a problem with my computers settings and capabilities?

  • Can you identify this reversible electrical tool and help me replace it?

It's a pair of wire strippers 10-20 AWG / 2.6mm-??mm that reverses to a pair of diagonal cutters. I've broken the tip of the mm side of the strippers and would like to replace them. The handles actually flip around and are curved (like the Klein Kurve) and are covered in black plastic with red rubber/plastic inserts on the convex side of each handle. The metal of the handles is regular steel but the strippers and cutters are black steel. Obviously, there is no brand name on these or I'd be having an easier time replacing them. If anyone has a tool like this (I've seen a similar tool with needle nose pliers) could you please tell me the brand name and where I could find a replacement pair? Thank you.
