  • What is the volume (chemistry homework)?

I am taking an online chemistry class (so it's basically self-taught). I had a hoemwork assignment that had 50 questions on it. I completed the ones I knew, but I'm stuck on a few. I'm hoping someone might be able to help.

    1)Suppose 52.4 L of a gas is at a temperature of -73°C.

If its temperature is increased to 596°C, what will its volume be then?

    (3 significant figures)

2)A meteorological balloon contains 232 L of helium at 23°C and 0.952 atm.

If the volume of the balloon can vary according to external conditions,

what volume would it occupy at an altitude at which the temperature is -52°C and the pressure is 0.022 atm?

    (2 significant figures, n.nEn)

Any help would be greatly appreciated, I'm stumped. Thank you!!

  • How do I calculate the pressure? I am completely stuck.?

A 2.1 L sample of nitrogen at 25°C and 6.5 atm is allowed to expand to 16.2 L. The temperature remains constant.

    What is the final pressure?

    (2 significant figures)

  • Are census follow ups required by law?

We filled out the census survey with the only exception being that we elected not to put our family's race (for political reasons). We wrote in a box labeled "american" and checked that box.

Then another census was sent to our house. We filled that one out exactly the same way as the one before.

Then a cencus representative came to our house. We explained that we filled out 2 copies of the census, but we still answered all his questions (a little irritated at that point).

Then, yesterday, we got a call on our new cell phone number (not sure how they got this number) and they were asking us all the same census questions. We promptly asked why we were receiving this call considering we have done 3 cencus 3 times (twice by mail, and once by the representative that came to our door). The woman explained this was a cencus follow-up call. She then continued to say that 8 million households were chosen at random to do a census follow-up. We were very skeptical about giving away personal information over the phone (this lady could have been a scammer), so we asked her to give us some kind of proof. She then provided us a phone number to call and verify her position within the US census bureau. But how do we even know that the number she gave us isn't a scam? We refused to provide any information over the phone. She quickly informed us that it is required by law to take the census follow-up. If we refused to comply the next time she called we could be fined.

Any advice on the legitimacy of her claim (that this follow-up in required by law)? If it is required by law, is there any way to not provide info over the phone?

  • Will a dealership allow me to finance a car?

I don't have a car to trade in. I'm 21 years old. I have a full time job at a bank. My monthly income is about 1500 dollars a month. I live with my parents (so that I can attend school and work) so I don't have any other bills to pay. I have 2 things on my credit. Both are for credit cards from about 2 years ago (when I was stupid and irresponsible). I currently owe about $500 on each of them. I am about $1000 in debt total. Those are the only things I have on my credit. I don't have a co-signer. Would a dealership allow me to finance a car? At this point I don't care about the interest rate, or how high the monthly payments are. I have no other bills so this would be my only bill. Any advice would be very very very much appreciated.

  • How do I pay off my credit card debt without paying the collections agencies?

I have two credit cards from about 2 years ago (when I was stupid and irresponsible, I will NEVER have another credit card again). One is from Victoria's Secret, and the other is a Bank of America Overdraft Credit Card. Both have been sent to collections agencies. After doing som research on the collections agencies I learned that they have been "scamming" the customers who try to pay off their debt.

For example: One customer had $2500 dollars in debt. They paid off the whole thing all in one payment. Then, one month later the collections agency called them back asking for another $600 dollars. They claimed it was "collections fees." If this were true, then why didn't they include that in the $2500 balance they stated in the beginning?

I guess what I'm trying to do is to pay off my credit cards without getting scammed by the collections agencies.

  • A business is acting illegally in several ways, who should I report it to?

I used to work for a restaurant as a Waitress. The Manager/Owner cuts a lot of corners with her business. The following are just some of the things she does:

*She has illegal immigrants working in the kitchen. (Anytime a cop car would pull into the restaurant parking lot, all the cooks would go running out the back door)

*In the state of Texas waitresses only get paid $2.13 an hour (becuase we get to keep all of our tips). The manager would make us work 72 hours a week, and wouldn't pay us overtime even though she is required to.

*Also, in the state of Texas, for every hour that a waitress is not waiting tables we are supposed to be paid minimum wage (Instead of the usual $2.13 and hour). For example the restaurant opens at 11am, but we would get there at 10am to set up and open the restaurant. For that hour we are supposed to be paid minimum wage, but the manager/owner refused to pay us anything except $2.13 an hour.

*When confronting an employee that has done something wrong, she uses curse words and vulgar language instead of acting professionally.

*She doesn't keep up with bookeeping, such as the start dates and end dates of employees.

*After I quit she didn't send me my last check. I called several times and she refused to come to the phone. I left my address and phone number so she could send me my check and she still hasn't. I quit June 15th 2009 and I still haven't gotten my last paycheck.

*I had a torn rotator cuff and couldn't lift trays, so I called her to let her know that. I offered to com in a host, seat tables, clean tables, etc., I just couldn't lift the trays. Her exact words to me were "you are useless to me unless you can lift" followed by a lot of vulgar language. At that point I quit.

*She refuses to create a safe working environment. In the kitchen there are slick floors. When they get wet the employees have fallen several times. When I askd her to order some mats to make the floor less slippery for the employees, she said we jsut just be more careful.

These are just some of the issues within her business. Who can I report these issues to so that her current and future employees will not have to deal with all this?

  • Can I fight my speeding ticket?

I am 21 years old and this was my first offense. I work in downtown San Antonio. I took a different route than I usually do to get to work.

I was going 35mph in a school zone that was 20mph. I had no idea it was a school zone, I didn't see a sign, a school, or any children. After driving back to the site I did see a school zone sign. It was at 7:20am and it was kind of muggy outside. I guess that's why I didn't see it.

If I would have known it was a school zone I would have slowed down, I get so angry at people who speed through school zones.

My question is, if I present all this information in court will I have a valid case to get the ticket dismissed? Any tips or information would be greatly apprciated.

  • Can I get my ticket dismissed if the ticket has wrong information on it?

I was going 35mph in a school zone that was 20mph. I drive a 2000 Mazda Protege. On the ticket the officer put that it was a 2000 Toyota Protege. Can I get this ticket dismissed?

If I can't get it dismissed and I go to Defensive driving, will this affect my insurance?

  • Two separate health issues, Please help?

Ok I have two main issues, but I don't know if they are related.

The first is heavy vaginal bleeding. I get what seems like a heavy period every other week or so for the past 2 1/2 months. I was using depo, but I am coming off of it. My last shot was due at the beginning of August. I have used depo in the past and when I came off of it I went right back to my normal period.

The second issue kind of scared me. Last night I was eating dinner with my mom. I put my fork back down on my plate then for like half a second it seemed like I sort of "blacked out" and my right hand shook and knocked me fork off my plate. After that I felt really really sleepy (which was strange because I had just taken a 2 hour nap before that). My mom is a nurse and said that it could have been a stoke. I am 20 years old, I have high blood pressure, and my eating habits are pretty bad. I am 5'6", 140lbs. So could it have been a stroke? Ever since that little episode it has been difficult for me to focus. Any answers would be greatly appreciated!

  • How can I contact these people about my kitten?

My parents and I found a friendly sweet little baby kitten only about 7 weeks old abandoned at a McDonald's. We took her home to nurse her back to health. We kept her for about a week (until she was healthy) then my parents put an ad on Craigslist for a "free kitten". Now, I know this is a BIG no no. I told them that you are NEVER supposed to post FREE kitten ads because some people will use the kittens as bait for pit bull fights. A guy called us and my parents and I brought the kitten to him. I begged my parents not to, but they gave her to him. He said he has a wife and a baby. And he said they have 2 big cats and a baby kitten at home. He also said he just moved to Texas from Kansas. He seems legitemate, but he has a HUGE kennel in the passenger seat. Now why would a man picking up a baby kitten have a HUGE kennel? And they guy didn't look like the cleanest person in the world (I know I shouldn't judge people by their appearance, but I am just worried about the kitten's safety). Does anyone have any suggestions on how I could contact him to make sure the kitten is ok? I have his cell phone number, but I don't want him to think I am accusing him of anything. Please help

  • Why am I considered a racist for not liking Obama?

I disagree with him completely on all his policies. I don't want him in office. Why does that make me a racist?!? I am sick of being called a racist. There were plenty of qualified African Americans for the job, just not him. Can you please just drop the race card already. We republicans don't like your president! Get over it. You democrats didn't like president Bush. Does that make YOU racist? I didn't think so...

  • I have severe shoulder pain. Doctor says there's nothing anyone can do.?

I have had severe shoulder pain for about 6 months. There was no sudden trauma to my shoulder that I can remember. I am 20 years old and in good physical shape. I saw my primary care physician and she referred me to a physical therapist. The PT informed me that I had an elevated 1st rib on the right side. I completed all the physical therapy sessions, and they didn't help at all. In fact, the pain got worse. I returned to my physical therapist (hoping to get a better referral), and she informed me that if it was an elevated rib there is nothing that can be done about it. She took neck and shoulder x-ray and sent me on my way with a perscription for 800MG motrin. I take the motrin for pain, but it hardly puts a dent in the pain. It hurts most when I am lifting anything, and when I sit in front of a computer for long periods of time. The pain is getting worse. At its worse on a scale of 1-10 its a 7. There are no signs of swelling or infection as far as I can see. Can someone please give me some advice as to what is wrong with me? Or who I should see about this. Thank you!
