  • installing insulation?

I went to one of those big box stores trying to put some fiberglass insulation in my attic and I'd never done it before so I asked the guy in the orange apron if the paper side went on top or on the bottom. He said it goes on top. I've finished doing half of the attic now and found out it goes on the bottom. Apparently having it on top makes moisture gather and renders the insulation useless after some time.

Now I have to go back and flip it all over so the paper is face down?

    Any ideas?

  • Water heater tank...is this a safe temporary solution?

The hot water pipes under the solid concrete slab foundation of my house has a leak. Of course, it leaks 24 hours a day. I checked with a couple plumbers for estimates but it looks like it is going to be at least a couple grand and probably more. I can't afford it right now.

In the mean time, since the inlet to the tank is on top and the hot water OUTlet is also on top of the tank (this is the highest point of elevation of the water pipe in my one-story home) I'm thinking that...if I turn of the inlet valve when I'm not at home, the water tank will not drain out through the leak (remember, the outlet is at the top of the tank and the leak is under the foundation) and the water heater will contain the existing water and keep it warm until I come home again and turn on the supply so I can wash dishes, do laundry, whatever.

Is this a rational idea or am I just asking for trouble?

Right now, I have elevated water AND electric bills because the tank is trying to heat the water as it constantly flows through it.

Again, please do not provide answers such as "Get the leak repaired" as I have already indicated it is way out of my budget to do so right now.

Thanks for any assistance you can offer.

  • Using DoubleTake to stitch together panoramic pictures. How do I get the two ends to meet for Quicktime VR 360?

I am using DoubleTake to create panoramic pictures on my Mac. I can align all the images from my camera but when it comes down to converting the whole ensemble to a Quicktime 360 VR movie, I can only scroll from one end to the other. It doesn't let me continue on seamlessly like a lot of panoramics on the internet do.

What procedure do I need to follow to "connect" the two ends of the image file to create a seamless panoramic Quicktime VR movie?

I asked this question a few days ago and came back to see responses but the question had been deleted. No idea why.

  • Tony Stark's House on the Cliff in the Movie "Iron Man," is it real or digitally rendered?

That big beautiful house on the cliff in Malibu,California...it belongs to weapons manufacturing mogul Tony Stark in the movie "Iron Man." Is that an actual house in real life or was it digitally rendered?

If it IS a real house and not just a Hollywood special FX piece, who owns it?

  • Evaporative Cooler ("Swamp" Cooler) Question?

I understand that evaporative coolers or "swamp" coolers tend to work better in dry environments and that they can result in increasing the humidity to an uncomfortable level and, ultimately, defeating their purpose.

What would happen if I used it in conjunction with a dehumidifier to counteract the additional humidity? Would it be more effective? Less effective?

I'm not absolutely certain of the physics behind the cooling process but I think it would work. The cooling effect would still occur and the additional humidity would disappear with the use of the dehumidifier.

Or would this concept of mine be nothing more than putting a humidifier and a dehumidifier in a room and letting them duke it out to no real effect?

    Thanks for your help!

  • Credit Rating?

Ok, I'll bet no one can answer this...

What is the actual mathematical equation used to determine one's credit rating?

I don't want a "list of contributing factors" or someone's idea oh how I can work to improve my credit. I want to know exactly how the credit bureaus arrive at what is seemingly a completely arbitrarily set value.

How can one check to be certain your credit rating is correct? YOU CAN'T! No one can tell me HOW they arrive at the precise rating number on your credit report.

    Anyone know?

    Anyone?!?

I read that using wind power (electricity generated from wind turbines) is actually illegal in Alberta, Canada.

Is this true? What about the rest of Canada?

What reason could they have for making it illegal?

  • Non-Profit Start Up?

I am attempting to start a non-profit, tax exempt corporation in the next couple months and its purpose will be to advocate the ease and benefit of utilizing solar energy. The organization will provide education materials and knowledgeable responses to inquiries and other assistance as needed.

I already have a scheduled path laid out to get the project created and official.

I need a good name for the organization. I have several ideas of my own but I want to see what you can bring up.

    Any good ideas?
