I am a water / wastewater treatment professional. What I do to support my bad habits. My passion is horses. I mess with dogs and cats quite a bit. Tinker with trucks a bit, cars frustrate me. My computer is not set up for IM but I do check my email.

  • Password problems on several sites?

Yahoo is the prime offender but PayPal, FaceBook, and eBay are just as bad.

It seems like every time I log on I am required to make a new password. Then when I go to another device or machine I have to do it again. It will go like that for a bit then it's OK for a bit. Then say I try to log on from my laptop at home and here we go again.

They wont accept the password. but if I try to use the password I have (I write them down which is not good but the only I can keep up with them) they tell me that I can not use a old password.

Then if I change one it changes others as well, like Google and YouTube....So I try to log on with the password I have written down and it wont work either!

I have started using some real ugly cusswords for passwords and I am getting very tired of this.

    What am I doing wrong??

  • How do you rate "Play drive" in horses?

This is a take off on my former question about colts and fillies playing with toys, like balls and treat dispensers.

    So here is my query.

Do you find that a strong play drive is a good thing in your horses?

What do you do with horses that makes this beneficial, or not?

What have you noticed about horses with a strong play drive that is good or bad of just amusing?

If you were looking for a new horse how would you identify a horse with a strong play drive?

  • Do colts like to play with toys more than fillies? and do they grow out of it?

I have had mostly mares over the years, but a few colts have showed up at my domicile.

The colts seem more interested in getting into things. I have gotten them balls and other so called enrichment toys but unless it dispensed treats they lost interest pretty quick.

Today I watched a charming video of a well grown horse giving a large ball hell. There were other colts and grown horses playing with different things.

    No mares.

OK, weigh in folks, what have you observed

  • What system to use for Internet purchases?

I can use my home system which is WiFi on the Verizion 4G network. We have no neighbors within 1/2 mile so a neighbor hacker is unlikely.

Or I can do this purchase at work. I work for a medium-sized municipality and our computers are "Secure".

The merchant is a major one, considered reputable, but does not accept Pay-Pal. My other means of transaction is my debit card. They claim their site is secure. Where have I heard THAT before?

Should I get a one time gift card for this sale or what?

  • How to feed beet pulp shreds?

I have an old gelding that had a gut infection a decade or so ago. The vet sort of pawned the horse off on us. We were willing though.

The vet said to feed him beet pulp to keep him scoured out. For a while we did. And he did eat it.

When his weight came up we just put him on the same rations as the mares but added rice bran pellets with his 1-8 pellets.

And he has free access to lots of clean leafy grass hay and pasture.

Well, he's 10 years older and he wasn't young to start with. He's having trouble keeping weight on. His teeth are good. We have upped his 12-8 pellets a good bit but he is leaving quite a bit of it. He's also getting 1 cup of Sure Start which is identical to Calf Manna.

We thought to put the beet pulp back in the diet. I soaked some and put a little in his feed and he flat refused the bucket. Then I soaked some and wrung it out in a sieve, and put a cup full in his feed and he refused that.

We are in Costal Texas. I hate to put him on a senior feed as it is loaded with sugar carbs.

Is there something I am missing here?

  • Advice on selecting a new cell phone.?

I need a new one. I have used a Samsung Galaxy 5 for quite a while now. The first one was awesome. This one not so much.

I tried the Note and the reception was very poor.

So here we are. I need a phone that receives a week signal well. All the companies make bold talk about their reception but they are talking about their network not the phones ability to read the network.

The best network in our area is Verizon. I live and work in the two worst places for reception but no other company gets anything in these places.

Next, I don't do games at all.

I am a lab technician so I do load up on math apps and solution calculators and timers and Polaris Office.

    I do use navigation.

I browse the internet, but no flip board or any of that news media junk.

And last but pretty darned important I take photos for work. The SG5 is the slowest thing I have ever used. In the bright sun it is impossible to see the screens so forget changing a setting.

So: excellent and fast camera, state of the art receiver, and as little bloatware as possible, it has to accept a micro SD card, and it needs to have a fairly large screen (I can not see the little ones)..

Does anyone have any thoughts on brand and model?

  • I have a question horsey people :)) when do horses grow a winter coat in the south hemisphere?

I know that winter whether comes at the opposite times of the year from the North hemisphere. But... horse hair and dog and cat hair as well is triggered by the number of daylight hours and that the dates of the changes co-inside with the solstices and equinoxes. So how does that work in Australia?

  • Verizon is updating my cell phone AGAIN!?

They have done this before and it even changed my operating system.

The things I noticed when it was done:

    MORE ADS

More stupid texts from numbers I have never heard of.

    More phone solicitations.

    Slower

Duplicates on all my contacts, triplicates if you count the cloud.

Visuals changed and I cant find my often used apps.

Photo gallery all jacked up and the phone wont recognize the images saved to the SD card.

All my settings (where I turned off all their bloat ware) is back to THEIR preferred settings.

I am really sick of this.

Is there a company that does NOT DO THIS?

  • Tell me about no fault auto insurance please.?

I live in Texas and we buy liability insurance on our vehicles. Just this seems pretty rigged because the follow on policies are almost as high as the first policy. If you have a truck and a car you are paying double but you can only drive ONE AT A TIME! If you have 4 vehicles which is not all that rare you can only put 3 on a policy then you have to get a second policy for at least one vehicle.

If you get in a wreck and it is your fault your insurance pays for the damage to the other vehicle and the driver/passenger. You still have to pay a deductible which can be $200-1000.

Your rates are set taking into account, if you keep insurance routinely, credit worthiness, home owner, age sex and marital status and of course your driving record.

I am wondering about no fault insurance.

    How does that work?

What is insured, the car or the driver?

    How are the premiums set?

    What about deductibles?

When there is an accident who pays?

  • Password wont work on different devices.?

A few years back quite a few internet entities got together and sort of merged their passwords. This was probably a good move for them but now I can not seem to EVER get a password to work across different devices. I have a substantial XL spreadsheet I keep my passwords on so I know what the passwords are. I even standardized my email passwords and money accounts so There are not so darned many to track. But when I try to log on fom another device and type in the password, it wont work. trying several of the past passwords also will not work.

So tell me which sites are merged? I have changed my Gmail password and now my YouTube PW wont work? WTF?

AND..why will the PWs dont work on all the devices? and even when I change browsers on the same device?

  • google passwords are giving me a headache!?

What is the deal with Google and their passwords?

I had a Gmail account for years, then they made me change my username and password.

Then my password quit working for YouTube...And I changed it.

Then my password for Gmail quit working and I changed it again!

There are other things too that all seam to be joined at the hip.

    What is going on?

I am using different devices and a laptop running Win 10 (which I despise). I use Firefox on all of them.

  • I have a few questions for the YA Horse Forum.?

I have seen the term "Passport" used in reference to horse sales a few times and I am lost.

I gather this is a UK or European term.

I have a passport. (gets me out of and back into this country)

Some of my horses had registration papers. These are supposed to verify lineage but they have been known to be forged. They have to have a health certificate and a negative Coggins Test to transport a horse from one state to another.

Only a bill of sale is considered proof of ownership.

So what the heck is a horse passport?

Next Question, why are so many of these questions posted under "Anonymous"?

This is a computer for God's sake, no one can hurt you from your computer screen.

All of the names are made up anyway so why "anonymous"?

    Enlighten me please.

Feel free to be as rude or abrupt as you like, I have good armor and I do know how to ignore BS.

  • How to prepare arena footing in a flat clay based area.?

I would like to set up a small arena to help me out with my training. My vision is a 50' X100' "watermelon arena" that can have one end blocked off to make a 50' hexagonal round pen. That center piece can be easily removed to leave a 50' X 100' for initial riding training. I will use this pen for beginning ground work and early riding.

The problem is our climate and soil.

It is flat as a board here and the soil is hard gray clay. It is slippery as hell when it is wet, several months of the year. In the summer it gets hot and can run 90 to 100+ for 90 days at a stretch. When it gets hot and dry (June July August) big cracks open up in the clay and it is hard as a brick.

This is a problem because all that expensive sand runs right into those cracks the first time it rains and just disappears from the face of the earth.

Do any of y'all have any ideas of how to amend the footing?

And just to stop this in it's tracks, I do not ride in the heat of the day in summer.

  • Question about Microsoft Outlook 2010?

Is there a way to default the reading pane to "off"? I am really getting tired of turning this thing off every time I open a data file. Good Lord does MS just get a kick out of annoying people who really have to use these programs to WORK?
