  • To what degree can I trust fast food nutrition facts?

I know it really depends on a meal by meal basis and it's supposed to represent an average, but I was trying to justify eating something at Wendy's today and I saw that a Jr. Cheeseburger deluxe is supposed to be 350 calories. Now I'm not a nutritionist but when I make an egg sandwich for myself I'll say the bread is two 130 calorie slices, a 70 calorie slice of cheese, two 100 calorie eggs, and 50 calories of mayo. That may be a liberal or conservative guess but to me it seems like a cheeseburger with the works would not be over 200 calories less than an egg sandwich, despite how bad for you an egg sandwich may be.

tl;dr can I really trust what the fast food places say, and to what amount should I assume they're fudging the numbers?

  • How do you think my prospects are for grad school?

I know this is a very specific question without any real foreseeable answer, but any comforting advice would mean a lot to me.

I'm usually a very good student (G.P.A always above 3.0 in serious classes not just core classes) but this semester I was very overwhelmed and i anticipate getting D's in my chemistry and calculus classes. I'm not beating myself up over it because I worked fairly hard and I attend a fairly prestigious university and my calc professor told us the fail rate for his last semesters were around 24 F's to 2 B's.

I was wondering, as a Geology major, am I better off taking these classes over or is it ok if I leave them behind and just do well on the rest of my classes (like 400 level geology classes and such)? I don't mind going to a less than stellar grad school as long as I can get a higher education in Geology and ultimately get a job. But I want to know because I don't want to waste more time and money on classes that I honestly don't foresee mattering much in the long run. Chemistry yes, but I'll be taking higher levels and plan to do better in those.

Any advice would be appreciated...I'm getting queasy over this

  • Why do both of the single bonded oxygens in nitrate have -1 charges?

So I'm starting to muddle through the idea of oxidation numbers and I know how to get those, but I'm still slightly confused. I see that in nitrate the nitrogen has a +1 overall charge and the two oxygens without the double bond each have a -1 charge, but why? I can sort of see one oxygen having a -1 charge because of the overall charge of the nitrate compound

    [NO3]^(-1)<---

but somehow I doubt that's why it's -1, and also doesn't account for why the other is also -1.

I appreciate any help, I am really at a loss

  • How can I lose weight intelligently?

When I came to college I was 5' 6" and 210 lbs but unconcerned with losing weight. Over the months I packed on the pounds and came to about 270. I was shocked at this and decided to diet. In about six months I lost about sixty pounds and am down to 212. Unfortunately all of this seems to have caught up to my body and I've been feeling very weak and have fainted twice. My doctor says that I'm not eating enough, which is true as I generally eat less than 1000 calories a day.

Honestly the only reason I do this is because I am largely inactive and if I eat more than that I tend to gain it back. I know that these are rookie dieting mistakes and the best thing to do is to eat enough and spread it out into small meals throughout the day, but I just don't have the time and money to do this.

Some other info is that I'm a vegetarian and take one a day vitamins from a health food store. I generally eat things like salads (with eggs), fruits, and veggie sandwiches (with cheese), so it's possible I'm missing some nutrients but I try to get in the protein and fiber and etc that I need. I feel like it's really just an issue with the calories.

Any advice would help me a lot, thanks.

  • How do you square root exponents?

For instance, how would you square root a^10?

    the question I got is:

(a^10/25b^-4)^1/2 and the answer they gave is (a^5)(b^2)/5

I understand how they got all of it except a^5. I'm guessing square rooting an exponent is just dividing it by two, but I don't want to assume. if that's the case, would cube rooting an exponent mean dividing it by 3?

    Thanks!

  • Why does watch-movies keep asking me to download xvid?

watch-movies.net.in now only includes links to sites that either require a credit card or have you install an xvid plug in that they link to for you. I've installed it and reinstalled it several times and it keeps telling me I'm missing it.

I know it's not the site because people comment on the videos and give them ratings.

    what am I doing wrong?

    thanks. :D

  • Redirecting or masking urls?

Is there any way to mask a url so that the person clicks on a link that says something like photobucket.com/urlblahblahblah but it is really another website?

I'm familiar with tinyurl and bit.ly and websites like that, but I'm thinking more like something that I can customize the url to appear how I want.

    Thanks. :D

  • How can I make a cheap cast for a foot?

My mom broke her foot. She is uninsured so she's hardly able to pay for an x-ray. We know it's broken, so how can I go about making a cast or buying a cheap one that achieves the same effect? Thank you!

  • How can I fix the plastic on my car?

My friend backed up into the mirror on my car. The mirror is fine, but there's a crack on the plastic that holds it in. It's not that bad, but it's a little loose. Is there a relatively cheap glue I can buy at a regular auto store that would take care of something like that but not look that bad? Thank you so much!

  • Why does my laptop randomly shut off?

Everyone asks the same question, but they all notice patterns when their computers shut down, such as the fan turns on or when they run a certain program. I have no such luck. It seems like my laptop shuts down whenever it feels like it. I thought it might be a virus so I literally just reinstalled Vista TODAY and wiped all my files out, but it's already shut down randomly twice today. My second guess was that it was the battery seeing as I received a notice that I would have to buy a new one, but it also said it would be fine if I just left it plugged in, which I always do, but that doesn't work. I tried plugging it into different outlets but to no avail. Would it still be necessary to buy another battery?

  • Where can I go to get my hoodie professionally mended? (as in sewed)?

my hoodie isn't too bad, it's just a little old and therefore the cuff parts are coming off on both sides. also, the zipper fell off. I suck at sewing and don't want it to keep coming undone, so where can I go to get it sewed professionally? is it possible to also get a zipper put on or do I have to do that myself? how much should I expect to be paying for these minor repairs?

    thank you so much!

  • What are some good non-superhero comic books/graphic novels that you would recommend?

I just recently got into reading comic books because my preconception of them was that they were mainly for dudes and had little plot outside of meaningless violence and men in spandex. Not that I can't appreciate meaningless violence, but you know what I mean. My brother told me to read Watchmen and I fell in love with the political and philosophical undertones as well as all the metaphor and satire packed into it. So I started reading a few other comics that he recommended and I'm trying to broaden my horizons now that I know there is some really good **** out there.

Just so you know, I have already read Watchmen, Preacher, Y: The Last Man, The Walking Dead, The Exterminators, and American Virgin. I really liked all of them except American Virgin.

I plan to read Maus, Transmetropolitan, Love and Rockets, Young Liars, V For Vendetta, and Fear Agent. So anything other than those because I am already going to read them.

Sorry for the novel, but I thought maybe if I included all this stuff it would help answer my question.

Any answers would be great. I would prefer books with somewhat of a deeper meaning but good art or just entertaining stories would be good too. Thanks :D
