What kind of plant? Oregon Wild plants?

Found this plant while out on a walk in a nearby park. I live in Washington county in Oregon and I've been trying for the entire day to figure out what this dang thing is to no avail. The leaves are really smooth, and when I attempted to uproot it (which i failed at) the base of the plant below the soil appeared to be an orange-y color. If you pay close attention to the way the branches come off of the main stem it seems to be almost layered, like an onion. It's also hollow on the inside of the plant.

It seemed to grow in a relatively wet area, too.

    Thanks.

  • What are your thoughts after this video?

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c8CgDGhYKe8

I really want to hear true and honest opinions... I feel so small, and yet, amazed because of just how big Canis Majoris is. It's absolutely head exploding to think of something so large.

  • PayPal, bidding, and Ebay?

I want to bid on something on ebay, but I don't have a paypal account.

When and if I win the item, do I HAVE to have a paypal account to buy it? Or is there a guest checkout thing for paypal when I win?

    Thanks!

  • Microwave oven transformers and welding...?

I've looked around on the internet quite some time, and noticed there are a few different designs based off of MOT's into welders. I've got 4 mots, now, (ones a little smallish...so I don't think I'll use that one?)

    All of them are in good shape. I know in order to weld with them, I need to rewind them to act as step down transformers. Now this is where my questions come in;

Most of the designs have two mots. However, I've seen designs that have as many as 4, and the primaries are all connected in either series or parallel, as this apparently increases output current/ output voltage, and thus gives a hotter arc, or better welding characteristics. I've got 4 mots, as said before, and I don't know how I would wire them up. I know MOT's run in saturation, so would connecting them in series prevent this?

And when connecting them to the mains, do I have to use two separate breakers, or just one? I have 15 and 20 amp circuits in my house. (there's 30, 40, and 50 amp ones, but they're all used by large appliances)

As far as connecting the secondaries up, if I run them in parallel, they need to be near the same voltage, or at the same voltage, correct? And if in series, how many of them should I put in series to get an effective arc? I understand arc welding (with a 15 to 20 amp circuits, at least, this is what people say) works best at around 70 - 90 amps, at around 35 - 50 volts. I'm not sure that's going to work so well on my breakers.

And, at last, what about PFC? Since they're technically inductive loads, I'm pretty sure I'm going to need some sort of PFC capacitor. How do I calculate the value, and what kind of capacitor should I look for? (I know not electrolytic. :) )

I really really appreciate the help guys!

  • Why does it seem that Windows prefers a specific CPU core?

I noticed my computer running a little slower than usual and checked task manager. It fixed itself, but I checked the graphs on the performance tab, and noticed that core 3 of the 4 cores seems to be doing the most idle work, with core 1 being the laziest of the 4. Why is that?

  • I know this is a desperate question but...?

I recently tried to relogin to my world of warcraft account. I was having issues figuring out which email address I was using, and it turned out the one I was using all along was the right one! But, in my mistake, I used the 10 day free trial for my account, and it was used up before I had a chance to play with it... :(

Is there any other way to get my main account the free trial again?

  • Radio transmitter to flyback runner?

    http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.rec...

Could you take this circuit, modify the capacitor value so it runs at approx 30 khz to 60 khz, and change the inductor to a flyback? You'd obviously have to also change the transistors to ones that can handle beefier current demands, but my friend says that you'd need to change several other components for this to work. Any ideas, modifications, or lower frequency radio transmitter ideas? Thank you.

Are they interchangeable between these two? Like, could i use it for a mosfet, or use them as a transistor...Thanks.

  • 555 crazy induction heater idea.?

Hey guys, just wondering, and looking around, would it be possible, to make an induction heater using a 555 timer? I built a circuit online using falstad's circuit creator, and it seems to work relatively well. What would be the limitations of this circuit? Here's the circuit itself actually.

    http://images.elektroda.net/51_1294547577.png

The transformer on the circuit ups the voltage from the 555 timer so that you can use higher voltage on the mosfet. The op amp is there to increase current, and to invert the signal from the 555 timer so that it comes out normally from the transformer.

    Would this work correctly?

Or, moreover, what more improvements could i make to it so that it would work better?

  • 555 timer based square wave generator idea.?

I have a small idea, Could it be possible, to generate a square wave using a 555 timer...Then using a transistor, or MOSFET, to amplify the signal, using 120 volts from the wall outlet, so you get a 120 volt high frequency square wave out? There are obvious uses for this, but would it work, and not blow up badly into tiny bits? Or, is there another way of achieving this? The main point of this is to get a "power" square wave, usable on a smaller ferrite core transformer.

  • How would i get this circuit to oscillate correctly?

How would i get the tank circuit in this schematic to oscillate correctly, and to provide a high frequency sine wave to the load, as shown in the circuit...I know the cap and inductor values are incorrect, but would these be feasible? What the idea behind it is that when the cap and inductor circuit starts to slow down, the transistor pumps in a little more juice into it, making it fully oscillate. I don't know if i have the circuit even set up right, any advice or pointers to my idea would be greatly appreciated. thank you. :D http://s497.photobucket.com/albums/rr335/jaredmist...

  • a 60 hz tank circuit....?

would it be possible to make a 60 hz tank circuit? I have a square wave generator that feeds into a cap and 1 uh coil of wire, yet when i increase the inductance i get a more ...curvy, square wave that almost starts to look like a sine wave. Any idea how to make this continue?

  • 60 hz square wave to sine wave circuit has issues...?

How would i create a 60 hz or 50 hz square wave to sine wave low pass filter?

I have a neat little square wave circuit i created using a 555 timer, yet, i wanted to create a sine wave. There was a 2700 uf capacitor and a 1 uh coil of wire at the end of one of the outputs, yet that did absoultely nothing to change the circuit into a sine wave, as the circuit says its supposed to be. http://www.scribd.com/doc/8539824/Small-%E2%80%A6 is the page i got the circuit from, and i used the power transistors 2n3055 and 2n3791. I'm getting a square wave, and not a sine wave. What am i doing wrong? And i also, used a handmade 1 uh coil of thin gauge magnet wire as the inductor. Any thing wrong with this circuit?

also then, what would i need to do to get a sine wave from this? and i tried hooking it up to a 60 hz laminated iron core transformer. It didn't really work. It still output a square wave i believe. Does it need to be a filament or whatever transformer for this to work? Or will any regular transformer fit the job correctly? ANNDDD, how exactly would i go about making a filter for this to work correctly? Thanks, and please help. xD

  • Cell phone battery......inquiry.?

Would it be possible to hook up a Larger Lithium ion battery cell to a cell phone, both operate at 3.7 volts but the larger battery holds more amps... Is this safe, and will it still charge using the normal cell phone charger? I think the amp hours of the bigger battery is something like 2-3, while the regular cell battery is only 800 mAh.

  • 3-D gaming glasses? O:?

Hey, I downloaded the iZ3D 3-d drivers for the ATI radeon hd card series, and i was wondering, is it posssible to use the same 3-d glasses as they use in Movie theaters? Because otherwise, i have to use those painful red and cyan glasses...and it has the option for Stereoscopic glasses useage...i was just curious to see if the movie theater glasses would work on a standard 60 HZ LED monitor.

    Thankss
