  • A few Rabbit Questions?

My first Doe has delivered, and my second Doe is due in a week.

With that being stated I am new to rabbit husbandry as an adult (raised the heck

out of them for meat as a kid but that was at least 15 years ago)

I have been reading everything I can get my eyes on and I am finding some things

that are starting to confuse me.

My First Does litter is 4 days old, I read somewhere that they have to be

separated by sex at 4 weeks or they can start to breed:

Don't they nurse until 6 weeks sometimes 8 if mom will let them?

Is black the most dominate color?

My buck is black but his mother was an English Spot-so far out of 2 litters with

a Cali. all bunnies are black.

(First litter didn't make it through the first night, first time mom I think

    they scared her)

How long before you can actually touch the bunnies?

I've read 100 different things about this so this is a big one I wanted to get

    answers for.

As far as I can tell she has 4-5 possibly 6 bunnies, she's been a great mom thus

far but I want to get in there and count them so I know what she has.

Can bucks be in the same pen with eachother?

I thought they were very territorial and got aggressive but I read in 3 different

books that they can be housed together.

Any answers would be greatly appreciated.

  • Problems with my Casio lens?

I recently tried to turn my Casio Exilim EX-S6 when the lens won't come out all the way. I turned it off and back on and the lens came out all the way but did not focus.

I than repeated the off and on and it seemed fine.

Now I have to do this 3-5 times before I can get it to focus to take a picture.

Also when the lens retracts to shut off it only retracts part of the way and than I have to gently touch the lens to get it in the rest of the way.

Is this worth trying to repair?

I spoke with tech support at Casio and they said the gears have become unaligned. They wanted me to mail my camera and receipt to them and they would mail me back an estimate on how much it will cost (1 month out of warranty)

  • Our brick fireplace is rolling smoke back into the house.?

We recently bought a tri-level house built in 1973.

In the sunken family room there is a huge red brick wood fireplace that had a woodstove ducked into the chimney by way of the face.

After we removed the woodstove we built a fire.

All of the smoke rolled right out and filled the whole house. After putting the fire out I noticed that the hole to the flue was only as big as a single red brick. The bricks on the top inside appear to be 4in fire bricks...and no damper. I do not know for sure if this is typical as this is the first brick fireplace I have owned all the rest were inserts. How can I remedy this so I can enjoy this lovely fireplace in the winter without dying from Carbon Monoxide poisoning? Also the lathe on both sides of the inside are exposed inside. I don't remember ever seeing them on any of my previous fireplaces.

Please no mean or nasty comments, the previous owners were using the woodstove as a secondary heat source a week before we moved in and had stated they just got the chimney cleaned a month prior.

  • why all the negative responses? Didn't people read?

    Just a quick question.

I get on here (Yahoo Answers) at least once a day. I notice more and more people leaving negative responses, or leaving responses that lead me to believe they didn't read the whole question.

Why do people feel the need to be so darn mean?

Why leave a comment if it's not constructive or at least one from someone that read the full question.

This is starting to lose it's kosher with me, I just don't understand why all the negativity.

  • Can our 7 year old Border Collie get pregnant?

We are getting a Border Collie from this older couple, and she is a super dog!

She is fully vetted but not spayed. We asked when her last heat was (we are moving and our new neighbors have a very big intacted great dane male) The owners said she has not/does not have them anymore. I asked if she was spayed already and they said no. My question is can she get preg. if she is no longer having heats? And is her age at 7 normal to no longer have heats? They didn't seem bothered at all by it but I really don't want her to get hurt or preg. Anyone have any idea's if this is normal.

  • Can I transplant my strawberry plants?

I planted 6 good hardy plant's earlier this spring and we already harvested all the berries. Now we are buying a house and I want to take my 6 plant's with me. I also have a raspberry that still has a few berries on her. Can I move these plant's without killing them? The Strawberries already have 1-2 runners on each bush/plant. They are not attached to the ground yet (the runners) and the Raspberry is about a 1 1/2 feet tall. I really don't want to do alot of damage to them or shock them so bad that I kill them but I know if I leave them here the landlord will just have the landscaping crew mow them over. (Trailer Park) Can I do it? And can someone walk me through it? How long do I have from the time they are dug up to get them back in the ground? I am only moving 2 miles down the road but I want to know if the last thing I do when I leave is dig up my plant's or could they sit in a bucket for a day or two?

  • Know of anyone deployed that would like some Thank You cards?

My 8 and 10year old had a wonderful idea while we were discussing our troops over in Afghanistan and Iraq and such places.

They would like to make Thank You cards (with their pictures) and send them off to troops of any kind from the U.S.

I might be shooting in the wind to hope to get some actual snail mail addresses or some way to send them but I have 4 children and myself so they would get a wonderful Thank You from my family.

I am not trying to "hook" a soldier as I have checked some sites on line and that seems to be what most are offering.

We just simply want to let them see that their deployment is not in vain and we as an American Family really Appreciate what they do for us.

Hope I get a lot of positive responses as my son wants to be a Marine and later a Police Officer. This could be a wonderful experience all the way around.

  • would asking to visit sister's adopted children be alright?

About 3 years ago My younger sister had 3 of her older children taken away. (She's had 5 total and she does not have custody of any of them.)

She was an IV drug user and the living situation was horrible for the kids. I took them in for about a year and when welfare found out she took them back (she was going to lose her grant)

I begged for CPS to get involved and get those kids out of there...they kept telling me to "wait until she hangs herself"-meaning she would mess up and I would not be involved.

She finally did and they were all placed into custody. A lot of people stepped up to take custody but the courts didn't believe that the process would take that long, so they weeded through and eventually choose a family from the fathers side that lived about 2 hours away.

I testified on behalf of the state, I was given special visitation with the children and once they were better adjusted (they didn't really know this family) my visits became dropped. My sisters were dropped long before this. Her rights were eventually terminated and with that I was given a pat on the back by all of the social workers and told to get on with my life.

I am losing sleep at night worrying about these kids. I feel anxious and I need to ease my mind. I was never refused any contact with them I just gracefully dropped out of the picture. Would it be detrimental if I contact the family and see how they are?

I don't want these kids to think I abandoned them, I just wanted them an opportunity to be kids, happy health and safe. I was afraid if I kept asking about them or seemed to bother the family they would eventually tell me no contact. Her oldest boy was very codependent to his mother so I also figured emotionally he would need a chance to find his place with his new family and not worry about her. I thought I would remind him of her. I need advise on if I should go ahead and write a letter or not. Would it do more damage than good?

  • 98 Lumina Lifter Tick, Low Miles?

I just started to hear what sounds to me like a lifter tick on the front left side of the engine as far as I can tell. It has a constant tapping at idle that speeds up and slows down with engine speed but doesn't get louder. The part that confuses me is that this car only has 44,000 miles on it, I know this is common on high mileage engines, but on something this low mileage? It was always taken care of and little old lady driven (my great aunt, so it's not just what a sales man told me). What's involved in fixing this? Just a valve train adjustment or may it be something deeper?

  • Has anyone seen this show about early pioneers/Homesteading?

watched this documentary type show that I believe was a short series about these 3 families that volunteered for this early pioneer/homesteading experiment.

I remember alot of the details but none of the names...including the name of the show.

The first family was a man and wife and her 2 children middle class, they were given a small plot of land and a preexisting log cabin on it. Plus a cow...actually everyone got a cow, wagon, and a team of horses.

The second family consisted of a man and wife, very well educated upper (high upper) class people with their 3 children I think all girls but not totally sure.

They were given a cow, wagon team of horses and land. Half a house to finish building.

The third was a very nice young man, who's fiance' would be joining him after a few weeks. He was given a horse, wagon and cow.

Everyone had tools to build with and everyone went through a series of "informative classes" on how to do things and what to do in their spare time...cut wood.

Then they were all allowed to bring something from home per family. I remember that because the wealthy family brought a still and he was so mad when the trader refused his homemade liquor.

I believe this reality series was a progression of these family during a 3 month period.

Would love to watch it again as it was so very informative and easy to watch.

  • could this be breast cancer?

I am a 29 year old mother of 4 (all breast fed).

At 36 my mother had breast cancer. Hers started out like a spider or bug bite on the side of her right breast and after it "exploded" she went immediately to the Dr. and found out what it truly was. 2 years ago I was diagnosed with 2 types of cancer-cervical, and Papillary in my right Thyroid lobe. I had them both removed and had radiation for the Thyroid and went on my way. 5 weeks ago I started experiencing pain in my right breast. It was a constant pain and any amount of pressure would make it more apparent. It felt similar to the breast engorgement I experienced while breast feeding but without the swelling or leaking. I was doing a self breast exam last night when I believe I found a small pencil eraser sized lump down underneath my nipple quite deep in the middle of my breast. My question is: has anyone experienced alot of constant pain with their breast cancer? My mother did not. I will be going to the Dr. next week but until then I am trying really hard not to freak out. Any info or experience related comments would be so appreciated.

  • should I worry about my bf and his new co-pilot?

I have been with this man for a little over a year, and recently he got a new co-pilot. She is 25 and he is 28. At first he seemed uninterested in her being his co-pilot, but after they spent a whole weekend working together she is all he talks about. He even mentioned that she has no boyfriend and she has perfect breast for her size. He usually is unfriendly to his co-workers and a homebody but in the last week he has been staying late at work "just bulls@#ting" with the guys. Keep in mind some of these flights last 6 hours one way. Also he has seemed irritated and stressed lately at the kids and me. I am usually a very secure person, but I was married before him and this was my ex-husbands signature right before he would leave me and the kids for another woman. My head tells me he would not cheat or leave me, but my heart is saying watch out and get prepared. Like I wrote before, these are all signs I have seen before, just in different types of men. I have expressed my concern about this to him and he thinks I am overreacting.Am I overreacting? Isn't this the classic way people become friends with someone? Or is it just a way out?

  • My 9 year old is so angry all the time.?

My 9 year old daughter has been in counseling with 2 different therapists for this, first we got an ODD diagnosis and at the time we were there for a totally different matter. The previous child phycologist never even touched the surface on the issues at hand. My daughter has had 2 previous sexual abuses one a 5 and one a year ago, we prosecuted both, her therapist tells me she seeks out these types of people (both incidence's accrued while at 2 separate grandparents homes during fathers visitation. Now I have 4 children, moved a year ago and am divorced. So in her young life she did go through alot of changes this year. Now she is trying to run away because she wants to be with her friends up north. I am trying to keep my family above water here, but I can't stand this constant battle with this kid, She used to be my best mommies helper, now we can't be in the same room together with out her trying to start and win an argument. I remember my behavior as a teen, she is acting just like I did at 14-16 but she's only 9. She has yet to earn back any privileges, and her room is pretty bare...anyone have any ideas? Please don't leave a comment that is nasty or mean, I am simply trying to hear from people that have gone through similar experiences and has some fresh ideas.

  • update on How can I bring this semi-ferel cat inside before winter?

I was just stopping by to say thank you to all of those who responded with great ideas and advice.

We actually caught him in a live trap 3 nights ago and took him to the shelter to get neutered. He stayed for a day in one of the children's closets (no activity in that area) he meowed early the next morning and I let him out of the closet and he ran to the screen door. He came back later that night and I propped the screen door open. To my bf and my surprise he came in meowing the whole time and came right up to us on the couch. Jumped up on it and demanded affection. We were ecstatic! After about a half an hour of heavy petting he ran back outside and has repeated this behavior for the last 2 nights. Coming in after dark (maybe because the kids are already in bed so the house is very still) meow's at the back door, I prop it open and he enjoys some heavy petting for about a half hour or more than he goes back out and continues with his nightly routine. I cannot believe it happened so easily! I am positive if I would not let him come and go freely he would not stay, as when I shut the screen door if he is in he sits at it and meows until I open it and let him out. Thank you all for your responses, I wouldn't have tried to "tame" him without you.

  • I have no Thyroid and I can't lose weight!?

I had my thyroid removed last Sept. because of papillary cancer. I had hoshimoto's really bad that went undiagnosed and in 3 months time I gained 70 lbs. (Dr. during the thyroidectomy said it was the worst he had ever seen in his 20 years of practice) Now I walk 2 times a day for 15 min. and I eat healthier, I just lose 6 lbs and plato! I'm am terribly frustrated and don't understand why nothing is coming off. Now at 273 I feel miserable. I am on the right dose for my thyroid meds, and I even spent 300 bucks on a wii gaming system but I still usually lose about 6-10 lbs and plato! Has anyone out there found something that works, this weight is not healthy for my body and I want it off! I cannot take diet pills as it could cause heart problems and interact with my meds.

  • how can I bring this semi-ferel cat inside before winter?

I moved into a trailer park about a year ago and brought my 4 month old kitty with me. During Halloween (3 days later) he got outside and was never seen again. (posted flyer's no one answered them) I had just got him the week before we moved so I hadn't gotten him in to get microchiped, or Vet checked yet.

Just a month ago my mom sees a neighbor guy throwing a cat out his back door, screaming at it and throwing stuff at it. (it was long lost kitty...very angry about it because we went there and asked them and they said no they had not seen him)

We have been feeding him and he will let our children pet him and rub him but if you try to pick him up he scratches, gets scared and runs away for the majority of the day. I have wormed him, and have him set up to get nurtured as soon as I catch him but I am pretty certain he is not hunting for alternate food and he is sleeping under a neighboring empty trailer. My question is: if it is that he is not instinctual and he will have a very rough winter, is it possible to train/become a house cat again. Like I said we can touch him but their is no trust, and I feel like he relies on us for his only meal. Hoping to bring him in before winter.

  • Do you think I'm too jealous?

I have been living with this guy for a year now. At the start of our relationship he told me he was still friends with his ex and I had to be supportive and trust him that nothing was going on. I did, than after we moved in together she told him on the phone some nasty stuff about her never respecting me because I have children and in her opinion rushed our relationship. (He has no children nor does he want any of his own) Both of these people acted commitment phobic, but when my bf settled down with me and my kid's she did shortly after (about 2 months) They talked on the phone often and she basically dropped all contact with him for 8 months. I told him how I felt about her and he respected that but I don't think he understood. Here's how it really went: She told him while I was in the process of moving in with him, that she could never respect me because I was moving in so soon and with all my 4 children. I was offended and told him she had no right to judge me and that I didn't want to meet her if she was going to act so uppity. She called him a few times usually after she left our area (she lives in Columbus, we live in Michigan. Anyways' so she would spend the weekend up here parting with friends and she would call him on her way home just to tell him what she had done and that she had came up here. Then she call's to tell him she moved her boyfriend in and although it wasn't permanent, she was happy. Than she avoids my bf and doesn't return his calls or e-mails or even say thank you for the birthday comments he made on myspace. Now 8 month's later she see's him online and IM 's him to tell him she's thinking about getting married. I don't get it! Why would he even talk to her? After she snubbed him and he was right back to where he was when I met him still hanging on her every call and still her treating him like crap or a second rate friend. I asked him why he thought she did that and he says her boyfriend probably doesn't want her to have anything to do with him. (they were together for 2 1/2 years and were each others first serious move in relationship) Am I being jealous or is she playing girly head games still?
