  • What happened to Dear Abby on Yahoo?

I used to be able to go to the top of the Yahoo news page and hover over "Entertainment" to find Dear Abby. They've recently changed the format and I can't find it any more. I used to love it because it listed the columns in order so I knew which ones I hadn't read.

    Yahoo...please bring back Dear Abby!

  • Teaching Blind Middle School Students?

I've recently taken on a volunteer job teaching English to South Korean elementary and middle school students in Korea.

I'm fine with the elementary school kids...lots of ideas, but I'm stumped for what to do with the middle school kids. There are 2 boys and 4 girls between 13 and 15 years old.

I haven't seen their textbook yet (they use the same book that the whole district uses, but translated into Braille), but I've seen the high school book and it's pretty terrible. Lots of idioms used incorrectly, lots of archaic vocabulary and overall just boring!

I'd really like them to do some activities, but I can't seem to think of anything that would appeal to them.

Any ideas or websites would be appreciated!

  • Is it strange to WANT my cat to pee in the tub?

We went the litter box route and she was fine...but a chore for us. We decided to try to toilet train her but found out she was pregnant (she was a stray Siamese that we took in) so went back to the box. When the kittens were old enough, tried the toilet training again, but found they preferred the tub to the litter in the tray in the toilet.

Actually, we're happy with this!! When they go in the tub, we pick it up flush the poop, wash it down and that's it!! No smell, no litter...no fuss!!

Anyone else do the same thing?

  • I have a book I need to throw away, but I feel guilty!?

It's an old paperback "The Source" by James Michener, probably published well over 20 years ago, maybe even 30. It's missing the front and back covers and pages are coming unglued.

I'd feel SOOOOO guilty if I threw it away, but what else can I do with it? Please, make me feel better about throwing it out, or give me a suggestion as to what I can do with it!

  • Our shy, antisocial kitten?

Now, we've had this kitten since birth (mom was a runaway that we took in) and mom is still with us. The kitten are 17 weeks old now. Mom had 5 kittens (all boys) and we have 3 left. Froggy was a bit handicapped, runt of the litter and some back problems that make his back legs move like a frog...hence the name.

The other two are fine with us touching them, picking them up, and petting them. Froggy isn't. When he was younger, I thought that his back might have been bothering him when he was held in "baby" position, so we always held him upright.

He won't come to either my husband or I, nor does he like to be petted or held. He plays just fine with his brothers, although he does tend to sleep a lot more.

Could anyone explain why one kitten raised in the same environment as the others could be so resistant to attention?

Any suggestions as to how to get him to be more sociable would be appreciated.

And yes, they're all getting fixed next week.

  • Getting a job in the US with poor reading and writing skills?

My husband is from a different country than I am (I'm American) and we are currently living in a 3rd country. We're considering moving to the States, but we think we might have a problem. Whille my husband's spoken English is great, his reading and writing skills are poor. What types of jobs would he be able to get in America? And with the economy the way it is, WOULD he be able to get that type of job?

  • Who is more important, the customer on the phone or the customer standing at your desk?

So many times I've been asked to "Wait a minute, please." while a customer service person speaks to someone on the phone. Isn't MY time (since I'm standing right there) more important than the caller's, who will surely call back??

It makes me crazy when people don't use these correctly. Are there any other "grammar gurus" out there who feel the same?
