  • Is it becoming trendy to be a good dad?

On this, Father's Day, I would like to find out what people think about this: I grew up with the generation of latch-key kids and it was more normal for parents to be divorced and remarried than to have both original parents. I've noticed though that this next generation of parents seem to be placing some importance on fathers. Whether it's staying with the mom or being a single dad, men in their early and late 20s seem to be stepping up to the plate more than their fathers did.

Has anyone else noticed this trend? Cheers to all of you great dads out there today - thank you for being the men your children deserve.

  • Forgive a wrongdoing v. excusing the behavior?

I've been researching the subject of forgiveness lately. When someone has fundamentally hurt you, either on purpose or by accident, whether you confront them or not - being able to genuinely forgive is what releases you from the pain, anger, sadness, and resentment. I keep reading this same thing over and over.

My question is this: if this is true and to truly heal and move forward you must forgive - what is the difference between forgiving someone and "excusing" thier behavior? Everything I read says that you don't need to agree with the "wrong" in order to forgive, but doesn't it seem like forgiving excuses the wrong? And that doesn't seem to be the point - wouldn't that make it harder to forgive?

Anyone experienced in forgiveness please weigh in.

  • What are the best party songs out there for a DJ to spin?

My husband is DJing an event where there will be all ages. (over 18 - mid 50s)

What we need are good party tunes that everyone will recognize. It doesn't matter the year (oldies or brand new) or the genre (rap to country to metal) just things EVERYONE knows and dances to.

    The really really famous stuff.

We need 2 solid hours of music. We already have 2 pages worth of songs that we have picked, but we have fairly eclectic taste in tunes, so we want songs the general public likes.

Also, what do you think is the number one party song of all time? This is not a fact question; just want your opinion. What is the best party song out there that causes anyone, regardless of age, gender, race, or taste in music to go "YEAH!" when it comes on?

The top song we have that fits the best party song of all time is Come On Feel The Noise.

    Help us out!

  • Christmas arts and crafts for the kids on Christmas Eve?

We like to do crafty type stuff on Christmas Eve, for fun and to make the time go by quicker. We used to do place mats (drawings or cut-outs on big pieces of construction paper when they were little) but the kids are getting a little old and bored with place mats.

We need a good Christmas project. Nothing expensive; our craft box is already pretty full, so we already have lots of supplies. They are boys, so no angels or frilly things (mom gets outvoted....) Anybody have any good ideas?

Also, we avoid crush-able projects, because we like to keep our works of art from year to year.

Thank you in advance for your help and please, no rude answers - Merry Christmas!

  • What are some your favorite Christmas commercials?

What are some of your favorite holiday commercials?

Has anyone seen that commercial yet this holiday season- I can't even for the life of me remember what the commercial is for, but it shows driving at night in the snow, the tune is 'Carol of the Bells' and some of the lines are:

    'Where's highway 10?'

    and

    "This isn't good!

    Bad neighborhood!"

    and

    "Look, there's a moose!"

    and

    "There's that moose again!"

That commercial just cracks me up! Does anyone else like that commercial, and has it aired this season yet?

I also like the Hershey kisses one, where all the red and green kisses are playing a song, like chimes. I've seen that one already this year.

And one of my all time favorites was a commercial (I think it aired in the early to mid 90s?) for cheese. The little girl and her family wake up on Christmas morning and they have anything and everything in their living room, including a brand new car. The parents are flabbergasted and they say "woah. those must have been some pretty great cookies you left for Santa" and the little girl smiles real big and says "I didn't leave him cookies. I left him CHEESE"

    Any other favorites?

  • Reason behind the name - horrible or witty?

Dolores Joy - for a couple that only wanted boys and no daughters.

This is a hypothetical situation. We're not interested in opinions about the names themselves OR why it's great to have daughters, just the reason for that particular combination. We've been arguing about whether or not that is a truly awful reason to name a girl that or if it's witty - and she's never told why.

  • Ladies: Not just a yes and no q: Best chick flick EVER and why?

I love sappy, girly, romantic, etc. movies. And my husband will actually watch them with me. We've seen them all! Best answer to whoever gives us a great movie to watch (that we haven't seen yet) AND convinces us why we should watch it!

I think that bears repeating: "and my husband will actually watch them with me".

Yes, i'm thankful for him. :)

Also, i apologize for the challenge. I know to say "give us a movie we haven't seen" and not tell you what we HAVE seen seems stupid, but we are movie buffs and have seen ALOT of movies, so even if it's common and popular, it will be cool to see how many movies that we have enjoyed get good reviews.

P.S. The reason i put this in this in this category and not 'Movies', is because I figured there were more women (and intelligent ones at that) wanting to give thier advice in the marriage category than the movie category!

  • Cheesy question for parents: What song from a Disney movie?

What song from a Disney movie can you relate to and why? The Disney films usually have the main character(s) learn a lesson by the end, so while your kids are watching and singing, is there a part that you kind of roll your eyes and go "yeah, i know what you mean"?

  • Can't find this hairstyle or how to do it ANYWHERE?

This is a style you see mainly on little girls, but I have seen on teenagers and a few grown women. To me, it is reminiscent of the cornrows from the forehead to about the top of the head and all the rest of the hair is left loose and flowing. HOWEVER the one I'm looking for is NOT the little braids, it's held with teeny tiny butterfly clips or rubber bands (the rubber band one is the one I'm looking for). If anyone could tell me how to do this style or where to find a picture of it I can look at online, I would be most appreciative. Please no responses about how to do cornrows or braids- I already found all that information in my search. Thank you!!!
