I work in the Law Enforcement field where I have for almost 16 years. I moved from IN to TX (2-2008) and love it. I have one cat named Gizmo who is as spoiled as a child would be and a daughter (actual) who means more than the world to me.

  • Should I consider a Cochlear Implant at 52?

I have a heredity hearing loss. I started wearing hearing aids 5 years ago but I am already to the point with my hearing aids in where I must read your lips to see what you are saying, I used close captioning on my TV, and even a normal alarm clock I do not hear and I haven't been able to hear on the telephone for more than a year. I am looking into the cochlear implant although I must admit the idea of surgery on my head freaks me out. Do you think this type of surgery would be worth it at my age? Do you think there would be enough of an improvement for me to overlook the fear of it and have it done?

  • New Career for Hearing Impaired?

After almost 20 years in Law Enforcement, I have been forced to leave due to losing my hearing. It is to the point now where I must lip read and I cannot talk on the phone. I'm OK if talking face to face. AT 51 I really don't (or can't) want to return to college for another degree. Any suggestions of what field I might be able to get into that would fit my qualifications? I am good with face to face (I was a case manager for a federal half way house) and computer skills. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I have had life insurance on me almost since the time of my birth. When I moved to TX 4 years ago I dropped it due to financial reasons. I have it through my employer but I feel that I need more. If I apply for more life insurance at my age, will they take into consideration that I have had it for over 40 years prior, or will I be like starting over?

  • Cat friendly Restaurants?

There are many restaurants in Austin that allow Dogs to be on the patio with their owners while they eat, Do we have this for cats? My cast walks on a leash and is portable in his little carrier. There are some afternoons that I would like to catch a quick lunch without taking kitty all the way home then coming all the way back into town just to eat. My cat has way better manners than a lot of dogs do.and would get more business from me if I had a place the two pf us could go. Any Suggestions?

I wear hearing aids and recently quit listening to the radio due to not hearing it well. I can use ear buds for my ipod but they are not too effective. Is there a way to get a mold like the ones on my hearing aids to attach to the ipod buds so that I can still enjoy music?
