becoming a sniffer dog handler?
hi
currently living in london, have recently got a black labrador pup 11weeks now, he is fantastic and always sniffing things out, i have for a long time wanted to be a dog handler but didnt have the finances or in a position to have dog, well now i do, i am currently an sia head door supervisor (3years now) and i love the job but would love to work as a "sniffer dog handler", (i didnt get my pup to do the course, got him for company and to give him a good home and seems like a good idea to see if we can make a living at somthing we would both enjoy doing) things im struggling to find out.
:places in london or just outside to do the training
:prices for courses
:will they let me use my dog for the course and to be partnered up with or will i have to use and take on another dog that they have breed?
:advise from previsous/present sniffer dog handlers please?
i have tried searching on line but not getting very far, allot of companys who supply clients with sniffer dog handlers but thats a step ahead.
hope some one on here can help

6 AnswersDogs9 years agoread an answer to a question now im worried about friends dog?
my friend adopted a Japanese akita, the owner just gave her away, at the time my friend didn't think anything of it. she has had the dog treated at the vets, and plans to take it training as she pulls n the lead. I read that they can turn on people, i know they don't get on with other dogs but my friends previous dog did and we just dealt with it, we didn't let him off the lead, but with the akita she is 15months old been treated badly from her other owners, not used to human contact. what are the signs of her turning? my friend is now worried, she loves her to bits and doesnt want to give her up, but is worried that when her back is turned she may attack guest she has over. all ive heard is negative comments.
any advise?
only helpful suggestions and information please,

3 AnswersDogs9 years agowoman gives her dog away, then harasses to get it back. help?
riend of my family is a pensioner, looking to get another dog after hers died, someone told her this woman got a dog a 15month old japanese akita, because she didn't get on with the other dog living in the home, so my friend said she would give her a loving home, my friend has got her all up to date with her jabs, and chipped her. the dog has clearly been neglected, not socialised with other dogs or humans and couple of scars on her legs. after being in her new home since December her previous owner wants her back, and is phoning my friend harassing her to give her dog back. where does my friend stand?

4 AnswersLaw & Ethics9 years agoneed advise on japanese akita's (owners/experts)?
Hi, my friends German shepherd died four months ago of cancer, she lives on her own and is a pensioner, she wanted some company so was asking about hoping to get another German shepherd, then someone said their was a japanese akita who's owners didn't want her any more, she is 15months old, has clearly been treated badly and neglected (very nervous around people, will wee if someone's enters the home) my friend doesn't have experience with this breed, only the books she has read up on them, my friend has had her since 20th of December got her chipped, and all up to date with jabs, the dog is not friendly towards other dogs and my friend will be taking to her to behaviour classes next week. any knowledge of this breed would be a great help, and any advise to help my friend to get the dog settled in and help with her behaviour. thanks

3 AnswersDogs9 years agohelp, puppy goe mad when were eating?
13week old siberian husky has started going mad last couple of weeks when were eating, he gets three meals a day and doesnt always finish whats in his bowl, he is health and no problems health wise. but lately when ever we sit in the living room and have somthing to eat he jumps up, lays down and barks then lunges at us, jumps on the furtinutre and tries to get at the food,
we get him on the floor, tell him to sit, then tell him stay holding our hand in front to encourage him to stay, he does this but as soon as we take a bite he starts all over again, I never had this problem with my German shepherd, told him to go out in to the hall and he did it.
any advice would be greatful?
4 AnswersDogs9 years agofinding the right dog trainer?
are 13week old Siberian husky male is ready to start dog training course, I have found many who are local to me and my partner, but he is reluctant to sign up for a course until he knows they are professional dog trainers, (when he was a kid his parents hired a specialist trainer (so he said) to train their German shepherd, just the basic commands and to walk nicely on the lead, shockingly this professionl trainer was abusive to the dog, aggressively trying to scare him in to doing what he was told, he was charged for this and other animal cruelty complaints and was sent to prison.) so you can understand why my partner is reluctant.
for those legit dog trainers, do they have to have some sort of documents to prove they are qualified to safely run training courses?
do they have to hold some sort of license?
any help would be appreciated, I have had dogs in the past but when i got them they were already trained and over a year old, so never needed to do a training course
we have tried our vet but they couldn't really help us, said they didn't know.
