  • Accommodation around/in Hoi An?

    G'day all

Looking for a quiet, serene place either on the outskirts of or in, Hoi An. I'm trying to find somewhere quiet, but near enough for town to either be a short bike or not too far walk. It's a single room I'm after, happy to pay up to $30 or a bit more.

I've been amazed at the help I've received from people here in the past - I'm trying to write up some uni work, and would be grateful for any suggestions.

  • Thanh Nien Hotel - Bai Chay / Ha Long City?

Has anyone stayed at Thanh Nien Hotel? I have picked up on one or two good reports on web but no detail. They don't have a website - only a vague street address - but there is a phone number available. Would like feedback on quality of stay, pricing and precise info on how to locate it. Apparently it's on a promontory close to the tourist wharves?

  • Trip report from Ho Chi Minh City?

Gard - We are planning for 3 days in Saigon. Do you think this is too much? This will include one day for the tunnels and temple outside the city. Our Mekong Delta portion will be separate (3 full days on our own). I rarely see anyone spend more than 2 days in Saigon so I am concerned that we will run out of things to do.

  • Vietnam Travel: Hue or Hoi An?

I'm starting to look at a Vietnam trip and my initial thought is that I will only have time for either Hue or Hoi An. I has read about Hue and Hoi an at http://www.vietnamtravelshow.com/ . Which does everyone recommend and why? Or, if I stay in Hoi An an extra night, is it possible to do Hue as a day trip? If so can anyone recommend a good tour guide?

    Thanks!

  • Food/Water Safety in Vietnam?

I am traveling to Vietnam soon with my friend. One of the biggest reasons I am excited to visit is for the food--for me this is one of the most exciting and telling parts of travel and I absolutely plan to eat the street food. Many places I've traveled I had to drink bottled water and Vietnam seems no exception. My question is this: I am excited to try the pho (read http://www.hanoitravelfun.com/ha-noi-noodle/ ) and other ubiquitous broth-based soups, and am addicted to the Vietnamese coffee with condensed milk at my local Vietnamese restaurant which I want to try there as well. All of these involve water in one form or another. Is it safe to eat these things? Has the water been boiled in these soups? I have heard horror stories of people having an ice cube in their beer and making it back home only to die hours later from some foreign bacteria. Seriously. I can deal with a little "traveler's stomach" and am religious about popping some Pepto tablets before eating, but hospital stays or worse are certainly not worth the risk. I will be in Hanoi, Dalat, Saigon, somewhere in the Mekong, and Phu Quoc (see http://www.vietnambeachshow.com/phu-quoc-island-a-... ). Any advice from those who have gone before me? Thank you!

  • Sleeper train from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh via Hue?

    Hi

I'm trying to find out if I buy a ticket on the overnight train from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh...

1)can I get off at Hue, wonder around for the day, and get back on the next overnight train in Hue to get to Ho Chi Minh City or would I need two separate tickets?

2)Any ideas of the cost of tickets? I've heard US$35, but not sure if thats just to Hue or through to HCMC.

3)Is Hue worth the stop if Im pushed for time? Thinking about maybe flying from Hanoi to HCMC, but budget wise I want to compare flight versus train cost.

    THANKS!

  • Advice for Accommodation in Hoi An?

    Hi Guys,

Me and my girlfriend are currently enjoying Ho Chi Minh. We're heading up to Hoi An in a couple of days, staying one night in Da Nang first.

For the first time ever, I'm really struggling to find a good place to stay. Can anyone recommend somewhere nice in Hoi An? Everywhere seems to be out of town and all the hostels seem pretty boring with not much going on.

We would really appreciate any information anyone has! Oh, and we are budget backpackers...so please keep that in mind when advising us.

On the other hand, if anyone has any general advice on how to spend our time in Hoi An, we'd be delighted to hear it. We like chilling at the beach, but we also enjoy wandering around exploring.

    Cheers,

  • Vietnam visa on arrival for Vietnam?

    Hi all

I know there are a few posts on Visas in Vietnam already, but I can't seem to find an answer to my question!

I am looking to get my visa for Vietnam and assume I can just send my passport off to the consulate in Australia to get orhansied. I have looked online and am not sure whether I apply throught the Consulate General of the Socialistic Republic of Vietnam (http://vietnamconsulate.org.au/index.php) or the Vietnamese Embassy in Australia (http://www.vietnamembassy.org.au/Contact.htm). What is the difference?

Is this the best way to get a visa for Vietnam? I have noticed many forums talking about external visa application companies and discussions about Visas on arrival. I'm a bit confused! Any help would be appreciated!

    Thanks :)
