My horses are the most important thing in my life. I have a super talented jumper mare and we go out and have fun beating everyone in the 3'6 - 3'9 jumpers. And my younger horse is starting his jumper career and finally getting the hang of it. I take care of a hunter/jumper show barn with 35 +/- horses. Worked as a vet tech in an equine surgical clinic. 15 years experience with horses.

  • How long to up a saltwater tank?

I have an established 54 gallon salt tank. I'm looking to take water, sand and live rock from that tank and use it to convert my 16 gallon freshwater tank into salt. If I use the contents of the established tank, how long do I have to wait before putting fish in the new tank?

  • Can you help me name my horse farm?

There are a lot of people out there that are more creative than me, so can I have some help naming my farm?

I want a SIMPLE 2 or 3 word name...I'm gonna give you a bunch of details, but I really don't care how much or little of it you take into account :)

It's a small, 5-acre farm in Florida. I keep 5 horses (a couple of boarders, a couple of lesson kids). Nice and simple, laid-back. We're out in a rural area. The pasture is pretty flat and open with one big patch of oak trees, and we're surrounded by cow pastures. The barnyard has a few palm trees and other pretty trees scattered around and one big eucalyptus tree in the middle of the barn yard. There's tons of stars and moonlight at night.

Here are some of the names I've brainstormed, so if you like any of these let me know, as well as giving me your creative ideas:

    Horseplay Farm

    Loose Rein Farm

    Quiet Time Farm

    Free Time Farm

    High Five Farm

    Clear Charm Farm

    Simple Charm Farm

    Charm Farm

    Thanks for your ideas!!!!!

  • Where do I go to get a hitch installed on my truck?

I guess question #1 is can you get a hitch for a gooseneck easily installed, or is that something that's a huge process? I laready have the bumper pull, but was looking to get a gooseneck trailer if possible bc I think they're safer. Question #2 is where do I do to get it done?

  • Hey y'all! Help me name a horse!?

I need a BARN name for a fleabitten grey jumper gelding. He's adorably sweet on the ground, a little on the energetic side when you ride him. He came to us as a rescue, 300 lbs underweight, covered in sunburn and grunge and sores. He's made dramatic improvement in the last few weeks and we really need a fresh name for his fresh start. Everything we've come up with is too common or doesn't fit him. Ideas?

  • Would a 1/2 ton hay bale damage my tailgate?

I generally get 1/2 ton square hay bales delivered and they use a flatbed truck. We just push the bale off the back of it and done. But I need to start picking them up with my truck, which is not a flatbed. If I push the bale off the back of the truck, do you think it is going to damage my tailgate?

  • Ok creative people, I need a show name!?

Any ideas for a show name for this horse?

16hh solid gray Holsteiner gelding. Currently in the jumpers but would like to eventually get him back to hunters. He's built like a giant pony. Super fancy mover, amazing jump, VERY athletic, kind of has an attitude. Need a name that reflects the "I know I'm good" mentality. Have to change his show name as there is way too much negativity attached to his old one. He's beginning a new chapter in his life and needs a new name. Ideas?

  • September 1st roster?

Ok, so on Sept 1, the teams can expand their roster. However, anyone who is not on the roster prior to that dat is not eligible for postseason, right? Assuming I understand that correctly, what happens IF the Rays make it to the postseason? Are they going in with only 4 starting pitchers since Sonannastine wasn't added until Sept 1?

  • Survey: How long after feeding grain do you wait to ride your horse?

I had a girl come to the barn at the crack of dawn this morning wanting to ride her horse. I told her she had to wait an hour because I had just fed him. She got all mad. Just made me curious, how long do you believe you should wait before riding?

I think an hour is safe, but if you're just doing very light work, you could probably get away with half an hour.

  • Tropicana Field and Minute Maid Park?

Is it just a coincidence that the two Florida teams play in stadiums named after orange juice? Or did they do that on purpose?

  • What does it mean when they say . . . ? (baseball)?

When the infield makes a play, like from short to second to first and the announcer says numbers, like 6-4-3 or whatever. What do the different numbers they say actually mean? Do they correspond to the position? I can't quite figure it out.

  • Funny horse video . . .?

I saw this video on YouTube and it made me giggle, so I thought I would share :)

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=50oZV103X24&eurl=ht...

The poor pony - I wouldn't jump if the kid yanked me in the mouth every time, but then again, the poor kid is just trying to survive the inevitable dump after the jump. I don't know who to feel sorrier for.

Any other funny videos to share?

  • Can you use a bitt burr at a show?

Can you use them at rated hunter/jumper shows? How about at schooling or unrated shows? I can't find anything about them in the USEF rule book.

    Thanks! :)

  • Edgewood bridle replacement pieces?

One of the girls at my barn likes to let her horse break things, most recently the noseband on her brand new bridle. And it's in the most perfect spot so it cannot be repaired. Does anyone know a website where I can find replacement pieces for an Edgewood bridle? I found one years ago and now that I need it, I can't find it again. Thanks!

  • Most important ingredients in a horse's joint supplements?

My mare has been on ReitSport HA-100 http://www.smartpakequine.com/productclass.aspx?pr... as her all-around plus joint supplement. She has recently decided that it is poison and she cannot possibly eat it (She has a tendency to do this, nothing new). So I'm back to shopping again. I'm comparing only supplements that come in PELLET form, since she obviously is good at avoiding the powders. I'm doing the joint comparison thing through SmartPak and I've narrowed it down to these 2:

    Matrix http://www.smartpakequine.com/productclass.aspx?pr...

    4 in 1 http://www.smartpakequine.com/productClass.aspx?pr...

The Matrix has much higher concentrations of all the same joint ingredients as the 4 in 1, but the 4 in 1 also has omegas, biotin, and all the good "all-arounds". So I'm not sure if I should go for the all-around with less joint stuff or the one that is strictly joint stuff. I don't want to do more than one supplement since I already have a hard enough time getting her to eat it.

So what ingredients are important to you? Do you recommend one of these products over the other, or is there another product you like better? It's maintenance for a 15 yr old jumper, not any major issues or anything. And she also gets Adequan monthly.

  • Tendon injury. . . PRP, Shockwave, other treatments?

Horse went to the vet yesterday, did an ultrasound on a bump he's had on his leg for a few months. It's on the back of his left hind leg, about 1/2 way up. He's been completely sound on it up until about 3 weeks ago, so he continued working. When he came up lame, he rested for 2 weeks, was still off, so went to the vet. Ultrasound revealed a 5 cm hold in his tendon. So he's on stall rest, they're going to do PRP next week, shockwave every 2 weeks. We will definitely be following the vet's advice. Question is, does anyone know of any other therapies that may speed up the healing? Any topical or medical treatments? We are open to all forms of alternative medicine as well. Probably have the chiro, acupuncture, massage, all of that. Other advice?

Also, how often have you seen a bowed tendon on a hind leg?

  • What's the difference . . .?

I am a firm believer in Back On Track horse products. I think they are worth every penny you spend on them, I've seen amazing results, can't say enough good things about them. Just wanted to spread the word. So, my question is, what's the difference between no-bow wraps and the quick wraps? http://www.backontrackproducts.com/horselegwraps.h... (No-Bows are the 1st pictured, quick wraps are 3rd) I have both (I'm an addict! Of course I have both! And a few sets of the polos. . .). Not sure why you would choose one over the other. They both seem to be intended for the same purpose. Are the quick wraps just for lazy people? Or do the no-bows give better support? Which would you choose and why?

  • Any horses need a ride from Ohio to Florida (or anywhere in between?)?

Our trailer is in Ohio at Pegasus getting some work done. Planning on driving it home to Florida at the end of next week (April 3rd?). Looking to offset a little bit of the expense. Air ride, head-to-head, luxury trailer.

Also, any ideas on a good place to look for people needing rides?

    Thanks!
