  • Considering forensic nursing as a career?

I am going to start nursing school next summer and am thinking about forensic nursing as a specialty later in life. I'm having some trouble finding resources about what a forensic nurse actually does, though. Any recommendations for better understanding this field?

  • When to get pre-marital counseling?

My boyfriend and I are talking about getting married in the next year or so. We are not engaged right now but have been planning our marriage (NOT the wedding). We agreed that we would like to participate in pre-marital counseling but are not sure when the right time is. Is that something people generally wait to do until after getting engaged, is it a pre-engagement thing, or just any time it fits into the whole process?

  • Pros and cons of newlyweds living with the parents for a while?

I'd like to get some some different perspectives/questions to keep in mind when making this decision.

My boyfriend and I are 23. He's about to graduate this week :) and has a full-time job lined up. I am working full-time and will be going back to school next year to get my A.A. in Nursing (it's an accelerated program, about 14 months). We have been talking about getting married and moving in together. I'm comfortable with waiting until I graduate and get a nursing job, but we are also discussing ways to do this before I start school.

Recently, he asked how I would feel about getting married and moving in his with him and his family until I graduate and we can save money for our own home. This is maybe 2.5 years away or so. In the meantime, we would be living with his grandfather, using the bedroom, bathroom, and den/office space in the basement as our own and then sharing the kitchen. We will obviously contribute toward the monthly bills, and there are a lot of non-monetary ways that I will be able to help out, even while I am in school and BF is the only one of us working.

My gut feeling says that this would be a great arrangement while we are saving for a house. I think that as long as we could agree to start looking for a home once I'm working as an RN and we have a good down payment saved up, I would be pretty happy with this.

My questions are these; respond to all or some of your choosing:

-What experiences have people have living with their spouses' parents/having their spouse move into their family home? Overall, a good or bad arrangement?

-What do parents/other family members want from the new in-law coming in? What might ease the transition for everyone involved?

-What things made it a successful arrangement? What things would you have done differently?

-What have I not considered here that I should be thinking about?

    -Etc.

    Thanks for any thoughts!

  • Basic stats homework question - where to start?

I can use a TI-83 Plus to answer. Please let me know what feature I should be using and/or how to begin figuring this out (even by hand).

"Suppose the weights of supermodels are normally distributed with a population mean of 120 pounds and a population standard deviation of 5 pounds. A sample of 16 supermodels is randomly chosen and their weights recorded. (No data given. However, use the information given above to determine the answers to the following questions.)

"Imagine the sampling distribution of all possible samples averages of super model weights (with n=16). What is the weight that separates the lightest 25% of sample averages from the heaviest 75% of sample averages? Write the feature of the calculator used as part of your answer."

  • Ideas for a gift basket from out-of-town bridesmaid?

I am a bridesmaid in my friend's wedding. I will be flying out for the wedding, buying a dress, all that good stuff. Sweet girl that she is, the bride will not give me her registry information because she didn't want me to spend any more money on being a part of the day.

I am super-grateful for her sensitivity! Like really grateful! But I do want to make a small-ish gesture to her and her soon-to-be husband. So I guess I'm looking for some ideas.

Stuff to note and my questions:

-They love the outdoors, theater, watching movies of all kinds, books, history, and Jesus

-She's an English teacher, he majored in History and is currently working at a non-profit (I dunno if that will help discern what kind of people they are, but there you have it)

-Their honeymoon is going to be four days; they will stay in a cabin and do some swimming, hiking, zip-lining, etc. They have the rest of the week after their wedding off from work, so I thought maybe some sort of gift basket for stuff to do at home might be fun. What would you put in this - any movies, cards, games, etc.?

-I can always try to figure out a nice restaurant near where they live, etc. and give them gift cards, but I can't buy them tickets for a play or something scheduled since I don't know their day-to-day routines.

-Would giving cash/a check be OK in this situation? I can't afford a whole lot at this point, but I could probably pull together $50 or so.

-Since she asked me not to buy them anything, should I actually listen *gasp* and just leave it alone?

  • (Statistics) Can someone give me an example of a binomial model?

I've exhausted my textbook's examples and still don't really understand how to calculate probability using this model. Any sample questions/links to them would be great.

  • What are some good recipes for someone who doesn't like a lot of flavor?

My boyfriend and I enjoy "double-dating" with his grandparents: we get together maybe once a week and one couple or the other cooks. I usually cook with a lot of flavor, but they prefer plain food without spices or a whole lot of other embellishment. I am looking for some recipes that are not too flavorful so I've got a wider variety of meals to prepare when we cook.

Some stuff they like already, as examples of what's not too crazy:

-ANYTHING meat and potatoes, pretty much

    -Chicken and noodles casserole

    -Barbecued beef

-Chicken or pork with Shake 'n Bake

    -Pot roast

-Some fish (usually broiled): tilapia; flounder; salmon prepared as a loaf

    -Meatloaf

    -Chicken soup

    -Beef stew

    -Etc.

We usually have stuff like rice, rolls, salad, mashed/baked potatoes, cooked vegetables (corn, string beans, etc.), or raw vegetables with ranch dip as sides, which is working really well. Obviously meat is not a problem for us. :-) Thanks for any good main dishes you can share!

  • What are some recommended anti-virus/anti-spyware programs for Windows 7?

Looking to spend about $30. Prefer a low-demand program that doesn't hog a lot of resources. Please post sources.

    Thanks!

  • How bad is it to mix Pine Sol and Windex?

So, I was diligently cleaning my bathroom yesterday. I did not MIX the Pine Sol and Windex, but after I used the Pine Sol on a surface I sprayed the Windex above it, so it's possible that some drops landed and mixed with the Pine Sol. The smell was really strong yesterday and is still lingering this morning, and although whatever symptoms I have are mild (headache, running eyes and nose, etc.), they are still there.

    I have two questions:

    1) How bad is this situation?

    2) What can I do to get rid of whatever fumes/odor remain? When I get home from work I will open all the windows, turn on the fan, rinse and wipe down the surface with water, but anything else I should do?

  • What other "countries" besides Little Italy and Chinatown?

Good morning! I like to travel but don't have the budget for anything international right now. I know there are places such as Little Italy and Chinatown that provide some of the atmosphere and culture of another country minus the plane trip. I was wondering what other countries are represented in the US by neighborhoods like this. I live in Maryland, but traveling a few hours is not a big deal if there is something in surrounding states. I've been lucky enough to go to Scotland and Ireland before, so it would be cool to visit someplace reminiscent of those. That being said, I am open to anything. Thanks in advance for any tips!
