  • I paid to have my lawn mower fixed, both running and the mower belt put on.?

I paid $50 for him to take it home to work on it. He came with recommendations from a mutual friend. It's been a month, and he finally called and said he needed a part, which I had to order, and came in last Monday. I called and informed him, took it too him, and he said he needed $80 for work on it, as he'd installed a spindle on the mower. He brought it to the house, and asked for another $89. He assured me it'd run and work. All the gasoline had been drained out. It got to the house with a dangerous fuel line leak, which he told me what to buy and how to fix it, which I did before I started it. I made one pass around the lawn, and it isn't mowing correctly (the middle of the deck isn't cutting), and the belt seems so loose it won't turn now (possibly the spindles he supposedly replaced). I parked it, and called him, and went to move the mower inside and it wouldn't start. I'm furious! Now, it looks like he didn't replace the 2 spindles he said he did. Has he broken a theft law of any type because of fraud that could be prosecuted criminally, or is it simply a civil matter?

  • I questioned the color when my granite was installed?

And was told that each slab can differ and that's why I didn't get what I thought I'd ordered. I was told this by the installer, and the salesperson at the store that sold it to me. Recently, I had called the store again when my sink started falling down, and the repair person told me that slabs differ slightly, but that the color should have been matching still. Today, the company posted pictures, and the one I had wanted is still being sold, and I'd received a totally different type of granite! My statute of limitations is not up, and I feel totally lied to. It cost me over $1600 for the different backsplash, and I'm so disappointed in my house that I've put it on the market, because I wanted to place my copper backsplash up. I bought the granite specifically to match the copper backsplash and beautiful knobs I'd purchased to go with the cabinets I'd installed, and had to change the entire decorations because of it. What would you do in this case: Ask for all monies back? Ask for the costs of the new backsplash? I'm torn. I hate to totally waste this granite, and many love it as I've showed the house. I've complained numerous times, and feel that I'm going to be forced to file in small claims court to get any monies back.

  • My friend's step son accessed his biological mother's email account on the step-mom's computer. Can it...?

be used in court against the account owner (the ex-wife, mother of the kids). There were very graphic emails about an affair she had while married. There were many emails calling the judge and attorneys stupid because they "believed her lies". She was sending emails to her lover bragging about taking the ex-husband (father of the son, husband of the step-mom) and taking his banking information, applying for loans in his name, selling the kid's ADHD medications and more. My friend is wondering that even though the computer screen was open in front of her, and had been activated by the step-son that she could get in trouble with the court for bringing it up. She and the husband have made accusations against the ex-wife about her affair, and about her abusing his credit, but had no proof until these emails. She printed them all, and re-closed the screen afterwards.

She believes the child (age 10) was shocked at what he read, and is seeking help by leaving it open in front of her. There were things very graphic on there about the ex-wife's lesbian affair. Arkansas is the state.

  • I have a live-in housekeeper. How long to fire and evict her? Arkansas?

She was hired to help me after surgery, to wash dishes and stuff when I had both hands operated on. I'm fine now, and just found out she's hiding my stuff in her room and in her car. She's no longer doing any work, and doesn't pay any rent. How long must I give her to move her out?

  • Computer Ram-My system info shows 1.81 Ghz, 512 MB Ram, all on the same line. Do these combine?

I am wondering if the 1.81 Ghz is additional, or if there's actually only 512 MB Ram? I just got the computer, used. This is all on the same line under the System Information. Thanks!

  • Inheritance Question: In-law's estate, husband deceased, his children alive.?

My husband passed away 1987. His mother in 2005, his step-father in January this year. Mother's estate never had a will, and no legal will has been filed. I believe my step-children should inherit no less than half the estate, and I might possibly have a claim. In Arkansas, children inherit part of the estate upon decedent's death, but spouse has life-time estate. Father-in-law's sister has wiped out bank accounts, with more money than house worth. What should kids receive? I am wanting to buy entire family's share of the house out.

  • School employee contracts-same pay, extended work hours-is this legal?

Our Headstart preschool program is wanting workers to work year round, same pay except they're now going to be required to work in the summertime also. Is this legal? Please send any links you can find, or the proper working to search for legal cases. Arkansas is the state. They'll get some additional time off in the school year, but overall, I don't think it's a good idea for our workers.

  • Has a bio father ever had to pay continued child support after a mother places the child for adoption?

Just wondering if there's ever been a case where a bio father was ordered to pay child support after a child was placed for adoption, even if it's within family. i.e. woman's single sister adopts child. We're assuming bio dad has lost rights, even if it's through putative father registry.

I was recently asked by my son's bio dad if I had rights to do this. I absolutely never would, but just curious. (I adopted from a family friend).

  • What age did you begin to understand adoption?

I'm more asking for those who always knew they were adopted. My son just turned 3, lost his adoptive father in December, and just asked if his first parents are in heaven too. For those adopted, did you relate to adoption in any similar way? I try to explain that he had 4 parents who love him. Suggestions?

  • If all Americans only bought American goods, and worked jobs that they might not have before?

How long do you think the economy would take to straighten up if we only bought American goods, and if workers would do all jobs to get one, where immigrants wouldn't have the opportunities in our own country, how long do you think it would take for our country to get back on it's feet if we all stuck together?

  • Do you think adoptive parents that are slightly older make better parents?

I'm talking in good health people, who are mid-late 30's to mid-early 40's adopting for the first time. Do you think that their age and life experiences help them be better parents than adoptive and/or natural families in their 20's? Please assume in this question that the adoptive parents are in great health, and that the children being adopted need homes and can't be raised by natural families.

  • What would you do-tree cutting?

My neighbor wanted wood out of a tree on my property. He was negligent and didn't rope it off, nor put the bucket of the tractor on it like I was led to believe they were going to do. The tree fell on my house. I asked hired hand what he thought was fair for pay,. and he refused. Now neighbor is bad mouthing me because I didn't pay. Would you sue for repair for house? They didn't have a permit either. We live in Georgia-

I'm really sad that now I've lost a friend because they made a mistake. Approximately $1200 in materials alone in damage to my house and I have a $1000 deductible.

  • Why do people say you can't sign to place a child for adoption...?

Before it's born. I constantly see that people say you can't sign anything until a child is born, but that's not true. Many states allow it, although there are procedures set in the paperwork to revoke the consent for a certain number of days. I know in Arkansas, our son's first parents signed before he was born, and in Ohio, consent can't be given until a baby's 48 hours old. What laws are you all listening to?

  • Are social security laws in adoptive families catching up with new family types?

I'd like to know if social security is honoring the 2nd parent when one in a relationship adopts a child and even though the other parent has been there since day one, and they've provided financial security, if they're honoring this type of relationship and providing social security benefits if the 2nd parent dies. I know that if the adoptive parent dies, leaves a will where the other one gets the child that they'd be awarded the benefits.

  • If you had a kitchen fire-would you accept the cabinets being painted?

I had a trash can fire, quickly put out, but smoke damage through the entire house. The insurance wants to paint my laminate white cabinets (1 cabinet, and the tops will have to be replaced).

I think the paint will end up peeling. Anyone had an experience here, and will it be the same? Would you accept this?
