Question about Coffee....?

What ingrediant is in coffee that regulates your system...ie:bowels? I know this sounds gross but I was just curious as to what is in coffee to make you go to the bathroom. I have heard from some people they cant go to the bathroom unless they have had their coffee in the AM.

So I had a cup of coffee this morning...I drink coffee maybe 3 times a month and each time I do it messes up my stomach. Can't be the caffine because soda and tea would do the same thing to me.

Caffeine inhibits an enzyme that is thought to regulate mucosal secretions in your small intestine. Secretions go up, so fluid in your bowel goes up, and if the amount of fluid in your colon is greater than the amount of fluid you can reabsorb, you get diarrhea, or at least looser stools.

Caffeine is also a natural diuretic, which is why soda and coffee and other things with caffeine can make you need to pee shortly after drinking them.
