Do Christians who consider themselves "Messianic Jews" keep Yom Kippur? Why?
Yom Kippur is commanded in the Torah as: It shall be a statute FOREVER unto you ...ye shall afflict your souls, and shall do no manner of work... for ON THIS DAY SHALL ATTONEMENT BE MADE for you, to cleanse you; from all your sins... it is a sabbath of solemn rest unto you, and ye shall afflict your souls; it is a statute FOREVER. (Leviticus 16:29 - 31)
This does not seem to allow for a final attonement -- which I have repeatedly read was the purpose of Jesus.

@Lili - so to the crux of my question --
if Jesus is the final atonement, what is left of Yom Kippur? Else - if Yom Kippur is still valid - what is the point of Jesus?
And if Jesus indeed fulfilled Yom Kippur - then (1) what makes the "messianic" position different from that of other Christians and (2) was the Torah lying when it stated forever in this context?
again - the question is based directly on what "messianics" have said about Jesus.

@Yahswatchman - So -- what of Yom Kippur?? You didn't answer the question.

@Kosher Jesus rock - okay - seeing that I'm in fact asking for your position, I'll leave off correcting your misunderstandings of the Torah text. Let me just clarify your position on the attonement then -- are you saying that the whole attonement thing has been done with for the past two millenia and you are simply fasting as a cultural fun thing -- even though you reject the scholarly reasoning that implemented it? and the "forever" was just ... a lie?

You're asking a logical question with Biblical foundation.
Logic and the Bible are irrelevant for so-called 'Messianic Jews.'
My G-d that was a brilliant question which I have never really thought about before! I was told they do but now that you mention it......well, I know you can imagine where I am going with this.
Brilliant! Just brilliant! I can't wait for them all to show up
EDIT And there I think you have the best answer to your question as jesus made the rock blah blah blah......they do fast on Yom Kippur...THE DAY OF ATONEMENT....but don't actually ask for ATONEMENT! OMG! I am laughing so hard right now people have literally turned in their chairs to looks at me.
@ jesusmadetherock-Seriuosly?! You are telling us to read all of Leviticus. You have no Jewish education do you? None...right? Otherwise you would know we read the Torah once a year. The entire Torah or do you not try to fake Simchat Torah as well? You use a kj bible, don't you? That would explain the lack of knowledge.
WOW...the chutzpah of some people....WOW...I don't even have the words
They do keep Yom Kippur for some odd reason I really don't know if they fast or do what we Real Jews do on Yom Kippur, they try so hard to be jewish they wanna be jewish so badly but they include Jesus in everything. They aren't obligated to follow any of the holidays they aren't jews whatsoever. I don't know anything about Messianic jews they aren't jews but I don't know anything. All I know is Jesus Has nothing to do with Yom Kippur.
There is no way for them to keep yom kippur (not like kosher jesus does, he's a mummar, you shove that fuker in a hole and make sure he never gets out) because Jesus took away all our sacrifices..when you read the bible like a Pagan Christian Goy you'll never understand anything, hence the mickey mouse interpretations of the Torah, if Christians tell you they respect Yom Kippur - Jesus came down as salvation for nothing, because we weren;t able to fulfill God's commandments (that's what those idolaters say) So if we are fulfilling them it's because nothing has changed before, meanwhile, and after jesus...this guy is entirely useless to us...
My Jewish husband has relatives who are Messianics, and they observe all of the Jewish holidays, including Yom Kippur.
However, some Messianics may not. Most probably do, because they tend to insist on their Jewish identity, that they are NOT Christians. But there seem to be some disagreements from congregation to congregation.
Edit: Yeshua (which is what Messianics call Jesus, since they see him as fully Jewish) is NOT the "final atonement" in Messianic thought. Christians see him as the ultimate sacrifice, but even THEY believe that Christians must make atonement for their own sins, their own transgressions. That is certainly what Messianics believe.
Why on earth would you think that even Christians think they need not atone for their sins?
