Steam installation question?

So I'm just curious (I'll use Modern Warfare 2 as an example), let's say I want to download a game I have on steam, but I have really slow internet so I'd rather download it from the disk. Can I still download it from the disk once it's on Steam, or do I have to download it through the internet?

Yes it is possible. At least for non-Mac users it seems.

Obviously game will later update via Steam, and you will have to download upon how many updates were released after that disc was released,

And if you're so worried about download speed, your online game experience will likely be poor as well. Just look into getting a faster connection.

What disc? I'm confused by your question. If you buy a game on Steam, there's no disc. If you bought the disc, you don't need Steam.
