Why does the anime I torrent not display subtitles?

description says they are subbed, but I have no subs. they are mkv files and I am using the movies and videos app on windows ten

download VLC media player, open the videos on there, right click anywhere and click subtitle, then choose the subtitle track. if the subtitles aren t hardcoded in, they sometimes won t be turned on by default.
