Why would the Roman Catholic Church need their own observatory? To be the first to see the second coming??????

It does bear noting that Galileo's situation was hundreds of years ago. In the time since, the Catholic church has embraced science more than just about any other religious denomination. The Jesuits, for instance, were devoted to the study of science and philosophy.

In the 19th century, it was a Roman Catholic priest, Gregor Mendel, who discovered how genetic inheritance worked.

The Vatican observatory is a highly respected observatory doing serious science. As Pope John Paul II said in an address to the Academie Francaise, "Truth cannot contradict truth." Of all modern denominations, Catholicism is the one least threatening to science, and one of the very few most scientists would feel comfortable discussing science with.

The Catholic church (my church "Peter, you are the rock. And upon this rock I will build my church)) has been studying science for hundreds of years. To assume that they are somehow looking for the second coming is ridiculous. No one knows when I will be back. And frankly, I am getting tired of offshoot Christian denominations predicting my return. It is these wolves in sheeps clothing whom I will deal with for confusing and misinterpreting my words. I want all of mankind to love one another and to pray for each other daily. Help your neighbor, give to the poor and be kind to one another. This is your path to heaven....

Three (Fwd) Wishes: Grace => Mercy => Peace(Rest).

Perhaps they wanna "observe" their Son of man coming, again,

to destroy them all, again (Luke 17), in time to "flee" it?

But perhaps they have not (yet) read 1Thessalonians 5:3,

which notes there is "no escape" of "sudden destruction",

comes back upon "them", because of what "they say".

Galatains 4:10, notably said unto "bewitched" churches:

"Ye"(do err) observe days and months and times and years.

Perhaps it's to note they observe plural grace + law things,

rather than observing the day(light) of God has no darkness.

If I were one of twain "them", I'd convert to one of "us".

For there is no "them" at all in just us, nor in "us-ward".
