Tell me how you interpret the following verses from the Book of Job, Ch. 41:19,...KJV [see details below]:?
"Out of his mouth go burning lamps, and sparks of fire leap out. Out of his nostrils goeth smoke, as out of a seething pot or cauldron. His breath kindleth coals, and a flame goeth out of his mouth..."
Apparently these are God's words to Job as He described the "leviathan", which also presumably could be domesticated by man.
Let's see you come up with another symbolic significance out of that, other than a fire-breathing dragon?? LOL.
I mean no disrespect, but let's face it: if it's so written then so it IS! If you believe in the Bible then you must believe in this, too, shouldn't you? It's irrelevant whether or not I believe in it... my question to Bible thumpers is: DO YOU BELIEVE IN IT THEN??
If this is an allegorical chapter or verse, then explain it to the rest of us then so we can understand your interpretations to it.
And which other chapters or verses in the Bible would you like to define as such, i.e., "allegory", so the better for the rest of the readers to understand; which ones are they and which ones are to be treated literally by the uncommon reader?
Don't be too defensive now, for I am not attacking you as an individual--I'm questioning the doctrines that you have been led to believe in and not to believe in... a simple "yes" or "no" would have have sufficed for my final question. That's all.

You know, YOU take the Bible more literally than we ""Bible-thumpers"" do! You here, not us, seem to be claiming that every single verse in the Bible MUST be taken literally, and we believe that, yes, there really are verses that are meant only to be taken as allegory. Did Gd actually ""walk"" in the Garden of Eden? YOU seem to say that this, too, must be taken literally, and not us!
So, it is possible, FOR US, to ""Believe in"" the Bible without taking Every Single verse literally, although you seem to say this verse must be taken literally for us to believe in it....

Doesn't it stand to reason that the allegory is a wrathful and vulgar person? Like we would say "That green horn was red in the face when the world came down on him in front of god and everybody. I'll be a monkey's uncle if I ever see that again too soon. Besides, new translation tells us that Jesus walked beside the sea of reeds, not on the Red Sea. Further more, Adam and Eve could hear Gods footsteps, read the book, the whole point to being "East of Eden" is that we don't get to live in God's presence. Bottom line, the Bible is metaphor not headline news.

Actually it is funny you brought this up because there is a Christian thelogian who believes the Earth is 6000 years old and he uses this first to prove dinosaurs coexisted with Job. He even has a song about it for children. Check it out:

whats not to get? many animals have gone extinct. including the behemoth (which may be referring to a brontosaurus or other large dinosuar) also mentioned in job. dinosaurs did exist, and are extinct. the leviathain was one of them. it was a literal animal God was referring to to make a point. He can do things we cant even dream. His majesty is far greater than our own, making our existence to the point of moot, except for the fact that He loves us more than the rest of His creatures, because we were the ones created in His image.
