our church van shakes,wobbles from side to side.we rotated the tires,what are the other causes of this?

A lot of things. First, Pray for Jesus to help you see what is wrong. Then, walk to each corner of the Van and push down to spring the shocks, when it down then let it go and see if it bounce, if, it bounce and not stop quick the shocks may be bad. Look at each tire real close for uneven wear, later after you do the Rest of this, you may want to have someone check the Balance of the tires. Then, try checking the Idler arm. Looking under have some turn the steering wheel left and Right looking at all the Ball joints to see if any loose. Then, you can check all the Ball Joints, jack the front tires off the ground and put on jack stands have someone look underneath. grab a tire at 9 and 3 o'clock and aggressively move the tire like you trying to turn it, look at ALL the ball joints and see if any loose. THEN take a piece of pipe and pry up and down on the tire like you trying to lift the Van, see if any ball joints loose. Also, when you moving the tire around, if, it act real loose and the Ball joints tight, it could be a wheel bearing. That all I can think of off hand. God Bless.

If the van is a Ford, it has the twin I-Beam suspension which is common for it to get out of alignment. The way to fix that (besides trade for a Chevy lol) is to bend the I-beam back which can be done at some alignment shops. Check the inside of the tire for unusual wear. Other things to check are the tires, tire balance, shocks and brake rotors. Rims can become sprung or bent which will also cause vibration.

Various parts of the driveline (or some people call it a drive shaft) can be out of whack such as the universal joints (more commonly known as u-joints), center bearing, the driveline itself could be dented or bent. There are lots of things that could cause it.

My suggestion is to look in your local area for a place that specializes in driveines and have them check it out. Look under drivelines and drive shafts in the phonebook as well as on the internet. Some places will be listed as Drive Line of Sacramento (which is a legitimate place), or other towns, and also Johnny Franklin's.

I have a '96 Eagle Vision, and when the passenger side *inner tierod bushing* went bad the whole front end of the car would visibly shake side to side while driving. I got the parts at Advance and changed the passenger side, however I didn't change the drivers as it's behind the fuel lines on my car, and wasn't bad anyway.

Sounds to be like a whole lot of Hand Clapping,swaying back and forth,and shouting "Praise the Lord" while going down the road? Probably over its weight Limit too!!

Take it to another mechanic who deals with suspension and alignment. It sounds like either the front suspension and/or steering system has a major defect. Also have the front tires balanced.

If your current mechanic has lied to you once he will most likly lie to you again.

you should check the suspension system, maybe add a torsion bar to reduce lateral waving.

Also, there are a lot of repair manuals on the net, just look for the oe that matches your vehicle´s model. (may help)

Can help if you give an example of what your vehicle does...

i would probably have to say its the sway bar being misaligned or a tierod being bent the sway bar helps keep the body stay with the axles so you dont lean and if its misaligned it will cause shakes the tierod basically lets you turn the tires in unison with the gearbox and if its bent it will misalign the steering geometry and causes these problems

My first reaction is to ask what church you belong to( one of those who rocks and rolls?)- but to be more helpful, I'd suggest the steering column be checked, possibly by another mechanic. A second opinion seems to be warranted since you are unsatisfied with your mechanic's diagnosis.
