If Catholics believe life begins at conception, why is it okay for us to eat eggs during lent?

Update:

From what I understand most eggs we eat are not fertilized, but many are. Does that make any difference?

Yes, it is okay to eat bird eggs during lent or any other times. Eggs are not included in the meat that we fast from on Ash Wednesday and Fridays in Lent.

Catholics believe that human life begins at conception. Human life is sacred and a gift from God. This is the basis for Catholic teaching about abortion and other pro-life issues.

Non-human animal life is to be respected and valued but not at the same level of human life. We regularly eat animals and related foods like milk, cheese and eggs.

    With love in Christ.

Are you really a Catholic? Who told you that it is a sin to eat egg during lent? Fasting is encouraged during lent, but it is not a sin if you do not observe it. During fasting, a Catholic is encourage not to eat solid food, only water. Children, sick people and those who are in war are not required to observe it.

Lent is a man made rule and not from the Bible. Just follow the Lord Jesus Christ and His Word.

Whom the Son sets free is free indeed. Amen.

Yes, my cowoker ate eggs during Lent. She gave us sodas, though. I believe they are not allowed to eat any meat (besides fish) during Lent.

Are you serious!? LMAO- Where do you shop? I have never seen the sale of HUMAN EGGS in MY local grocery store for the purchase of a breakfast item. Please, don't try to confuse AGRICULTURAL HEN EGGS with HUMAN conception! How ridiculous are you?

Eggs that you buy in the store are usually unfertilized... so no conception there.

    smile... at question and answers,

and off course virgins give birth

    but maybe only at Christ-mass eh;

or maybe that's just when they conceive,

and give birth to law law at Rosh ha Shanah.

It's preposterous order to teach first & learn after.

The "grace" of our Lord Jesus Christ with you all. Amen.

Source(s): Holy Bible is not law law in "the end" is already written, in a book that doesn't think for you, but makes you think. When ended properly, as written, law: sin & death "vanish".

animals belong to us......we do to them what we wish

Gen 1:26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.
