My cat keeps breaking out the screens! Help!?

We just moved and my cat keeps trying to get outside - he has even broken out almost all of the screens - he is fixed and has been an indoor cat all of his life - any suggestions on ways to secure the screens so we can open the windows or make him stop? It's hot!

Cats hate walking on aluminium foil, put some on the window sills and block his access to the windows, either with something he can't get around, or put more aluminium foil there.

There is products call Stay Away Spray. Cats don't like the smell and, well, stay away. You get it at petstores. Check to see if you object to the smell, and test what you are going to spray, you don't want to ruin your stuff.

Try getting new toys for him. Get some catnip, cat grass, and mint in little pots for him, he might like that.

Make him a little enclosure or get a harness for him so he can go out and still be safe.

well even my indoor kitties like to climb and punch out my screens you either need to supervise when the windows are open or use the air conditioner if it is how and keep the windows closed. buy a cat tree and sit it by the window maybe hang a bird feed or put birbath out side kind of like a kitty tv. he is probably bored and wants out if he is used to being outside. my cats are strictly insiders for safetys sake and they just love to sit by the windows and watch outside. sometimes the neighbors kitties look in. make sure he has lots of inside activities, toys catnip sprinkled on the carpet, dry food and fresh water down at all times, clean litter boxes. i think you can buy studier screen amterial form the hardware store and maybe some industrial strength glue to hold in the rubber that secures the screens in the frames. you can always dig that out if you ever have to change the screen again.

Source(s): i have 22 cats and i am a problem solver(gotta be with that many) this is what i would do.

because the cat is fixed it stands to reason that she purely is longing for some freedom. that isn't all that uncommon. per chance, once you've the time, see if she is wanting to pass for a leashed-type outting. I personal a maine coon and he genuinely walks proper alongside with me and not using a leash until eventually, for sure, yet another cat comes into view then he's off in a flash. also, possibly you've distinct outdoor cats that roam round your position at nighttime and are calling for her to go back out and play. purely imagine your self staring at the international pass on in the back of a tumbler window day in and vacation.

He's doing what cats do when they move. They experience stress over moves. It should pass. Maybe put some nails or screws in the window frame to keep them from falling out. You don't have to drive them too far in, just enough to keep the frame from giving way.

I think you should let you cat go outside, because you guys have just moved and i bet he is confused at where he is. Because this isn't his old home this is a new place so let him explore and check out the new place. I'm sure he'll settle down in a couple of weeks.

    Good Luck!:)

Get stronger screens and possibly put up baby gates in all the windows that are open. If you are not in an apartment and have a yard, construct a "Cat run" for him so he can enjoy the outdoors.

Some good pictures of "Cat runs" people have built:

Don't let him out. Outdoor cats have a much much shorter lifespan than indoor cats. If you let him out he may also try to find his last home. Had a roomate once who's cat kept wandering off to find his last home.

get a little dog leash and collar and let him go out side and time he tries to go outside or acts like he wants to
