Why pay 10k, 15k or more for a wedding ?
I am currently planning my wedding and it is not going to be nearly that expensive I guess I just can't imagine spending my entire yearly salary on my wedding. Once in a lifetime or not.

Good for you. My own feeling is that anybody who spends that kind of money to star in a some sort of dream pageant probably isn't mature enough to be a good marital partner. Shouldn't you grow out of this "a perfect day, one that's all about ME" fantasy by around your 8th birthday party?

i have mixed feelings about spending more.
part of me thinks that cutting edges and saving the money is a good idea.
but then... what is 10k? to some people it's not that much. and this is a once in the lifetime thing! there are some things that i totally went cheapo on cuz i didn't care about, but there were other aspects of the wedding where i splurged a little because it was important to me.
i also think that a lot of the wedding costs has to do with the location of the wedding.

My budget is $4000 and I'm having a beautiful wedding in a park by a river. I could never justify spending much more than that because 10 or 15k is a great downpayment on a house! I guess people who have a lot of money to burn will do so. Most of us, though have better things to spend their money on, like the honeymoon, a house, your future.
In the end it is just one day. It is going to be special no matter what because it is your wedding day. Why waste a lot of money on details nobody is going to remember, they're all going to just remember you also.

I agree. Mine wasn't very expensive either. I had a pretty big wedding with 100 guests but we didn't pay but about $6000 and that included the honeymoon. We shopped around for deals & our family helped out. I got my dress & veil for half price and my tiara was free! We used artificial flowers instead except for the flowers at the alter, those were real flowers and we used carnations instead of roses since they were cheaper! Anyway, we cut corners but we still had a really nice wedding! I also got started about 1 year in advance & that REALLY helped.
Good luck! :)

Because you can is probably the actual reason. We spent about that much on our wedding but that included our apartment, furnishings, and our honeymoon. I don't recommend going into debt just to have a huge wedding, that's crazy.

so don't. Some people get really really excited about their wedding day and want it to be perfect etc. Personally, I think it's a time for friends and family to gather together and celebrate a union of two people. If for you that's a BBQ in your backyard or a huge extravaganza, then great.

this is not an answer to your question-just another question directed to you-lol
would you (or anybody else for that matter) please email me with some wedding information? my parents will not be paying for it (as i thought it was the custom...but oh well) and so that will leave me and brandon with the tab. i know nothing about weddings and preparations or even how much it will cost. i could use some advice----thank you!

You are smart. Besides, there will be much more important things to spend that money on later in the marriage.
