Can we go back to past periods? Can we travel in time?

Recently i came to know that gamma rays eminated from distant galaxies some billion years ago were recorded now by some space instruments. So we see gamma rays of billion old years. so if we can beat the speed of light or such rays can we go and see the light rays or gamma rays emitted from our earth in our past years??

First of all, the speed of light cannot be exceeded and secondly, one would have to travel at unimaginable speeds to achieve what you want. According to Einstein's theory of relativity, it is possible to travel into the future but not into the past. If faster than light speeds were achievable even theoretically, then even still, you would need to travel at hundreds of times faster than light to achieve even a few seconds into the past! Remember, the closer you get to the speed of light, the amount of energy requires becomes infinite (never ending amount). For more answers or a discussion visit astrowhiz on Yahoo Groups!

Probably not to the past. Scientists generally agree that the arrow of time moves forward only, and is hard (meaning once a time has past, you cannot go back to it). Going to the future might be possible someday...if we could travel at near speeds of light, time would slow down for us, and therefore you could leave earth and come back later. Everyone else went though time at regular speed, but you would have aged substantially less and experienced less time, so it would seem to you that you went to the future.

The problem will be the extreme difficulty in getting us up near light speed. Currently it would prohibitively expensive and take a VERY long time.

All things are possible, if only they haven't yet been realized. There are many skeptics, but at one time, people believed the sound barrier could not be broken.

If you are a religious man - then you know time travel is entirely possible. John's recollection of writings in Revelation demonstrate that time travel occurs.

Time travel for us someday would be ill advised, and probably has never happened. How can I say this? Because if time travel were possible, people from the future would probably already have visited us in the past - and we know that hasn't happened - right? ;-)

There are a few theorys as to how we can.

One suggests that you could "Herd" incredably dence objects suck as neutron stars so as to distory spacetime to the point where travelling at the speed of light would be equivelent to traveling even fasterundernormal conditions.

Another, even more "out-there" approach would be to travel to a different dimention, exacty the same as our own, just the way it was whenever you want to travel to (Exept with a means to travel through the dimentions back to this one)

Of course, you could just buy a delorian, a flux capacitor and some uranium.

In individual i could shuttle decrease back to the bronze age, so like 2300-six hundred BC to get a reliable look on the 1st civilizations, to work out how human beings lived and dealt with eachother. And to work out how the earth appeared like without the great pollutants and destruction to the habbitat. As an observer, i could in all threat additionally shuttle into the destiny different than in all threat 50 years.

Possibly but that is beyond the capabilities of man kind.

We are not nearlly advanced enough!!!

We haven't even ever been to other planets. So, i highly doubt there will be any time traveling within a million or so years. haha

Yes we can, if taken in practice the theory that time doesn't exist, only movement. If then slowed an object into negative-movement one can possibly travel back in time. That is one of my own theory, approved by doctor Seldon himself.

you can travel in time only in your imagination
