As far as the complaints go I think that some people over-sell the product. I've seen some people try and sell it as though it will do almost everything and when some people buy into it they expect more than they have and complain. Also most people aren't going to just go and blog or post good things, usually when people get mad they do though. So, you have an unbalanced percentage of views right there. I've had the membership for only 2 months and I've saved $202.59 so far I payed $52 to PPL so far.
My case;
I was charged by my Bank (Charter One) for my life insurance ($82 per month which is alost 3 times as much as PPL) and I had money that was deposited into my bank account on the same day. Everything was fine but Charter One charged me as though my life insurance had been charged a day before it had actually been charged, which put me in the negative. I then called Charter One and told them that there must have been a bank error and asked them if I was going to be charged an insufficient funds fee and they thold me that I wouldnt be charged. I had $59.21 in my bank account after paying the $82.00 for my life insurance. I then went and took $40 out of the atm and spent $6.00 at walmart on deodorant and bathrrom cleaner using my Charter One debit card. I came back and checked my account and I had a positive balance of $11.42 so i decided to make $5 internet transaction. Everything was fine untill the next day. When I woke up and checked my account (as i often do) I had been charged an insufficient fund fee for my life insurance even though i was told that i wouldnt have been. Worse than that I had been not only charged but I was charged as though I had been charged for the insufficient fund fee of $35 before i had taken the $40 out of the bank. Might not sound bad but that had a snowball effect. It showed that when i took out the $40 that i had went negative which would cost $35, then went i spent $6 at walmart I had went more negative which cost another $35, and when I made the internet transaction of $5 I was charged another $35. Also my Identity theft shield and PPL member fee had came in and those 2 transactions cost $70 in insufficient funds fees. I knew that the PPL fee was coming in but I couldnt put money in a negative account or it would have just taken out of the negative fee. I called the bank and they said it was nothing to do and i told em i would call my attorney. To make avery long story short I faxed the information over to my provided law firm and they took care of the problem and the snowball effect.
Because of that I am now a PPL Associate.

Here is my take, I have never used them, I have heard of them, and I remember first hearing about them around 1996, so they must be doing something right, since they still exist :)
