Can I get your opinion?

I work with a nice Mexican guy. I don't think he is illegal, but not really sure. He is married, owns his own home.

He has 3 daughters all of which have children that live with him. Fathers are not in the picture. They are all on welfare. He just told me when he retires he is going back to Mexico because this country has done nothing for him.

I couldn't believe it. What do you think of that statement?

I hope like heck he takes those worthless kids with him. He is obviously an ingrate, we seem to have quite a few of those around anymore.

Well, it's his opinion. I'd like to know more about how and why he felt that way. My response would probably be to ask follow up questions to really get his side of things. Then I'd let him know how his statement hurt because of how I view things. If he hadn't given me sufficient proof of 'no help', I'd tell him. I would point out that his kids are on welfare, and that is this country doing something for him. I'd mention the job, the house, the right to say whatever silly thing that got into his head; but things have gotten so tiresome. I know you'll get a hundred answers about how to rip this guy a new one. His statements are silly, untrue, and quite offensive, but I think we need to start thinking rationally. If we just 'rip him a new one', he'll have the 'proof' of our 'racism'. If we leave emotion at the door, we can debate this (and really , all) issues effectively. He may have said what he said to get a rise out of you. Don't ever give him the satisfaction.

And when he retires, he's welcome to go home to Mexico........ where he'll find middle-class American retirees (200,000 of which will be there illegally).

I think that the statement is wrong. My father is from Mexico and this country has done more for him and my Uncles in a life time. This country has offered them jobs, freedom, and security. Each and everyone of them would agree with me if they were standing here right now, but they are not. They are out there still working hard and giving back to this country because they have received so much. So don't take the opinion of person and think that it is the opinion of all. Mexico offers nothing to their people but poverty and corruption.

I think he should haul his butt and all his offspring and their offspring back to Mexico. Lets see how much welfare his daughters get there. The would be sitting on the street corners with their children begging for money if they were in Mexico ( I used to live a mile from Mexico so I seen it all the time.

It is obvious that his country didn't do anything for him either or he wouldn't be here.

This is not an answer to your question but when I retire I am going to move to Mexico. I was born in Missouri. My dad worked for the Federal Government all of his lfe. This country has done much for me. The reason I am moving to Mexico is so I can afford to live on my Social Security. There are whole communitys of retired American citizens living in Mexico many of whom worked in our government and our military.

    Thanks for asking.

Off the top, he has a right to his opinion.

Whether it is factual or not depends on whether you or I have walked in his shoes and experienced what he has.

If I were you, I'd ask him what he meant by the United States not doing anything for him.

After all, most of us don't have to do anything expect obey the law nd pay taxes...and for that, we're provided police and fire protection, we get plenty of social and civic support and we have lots of freedoms and rights (at lest for now).

If he feels slighted, he might have experienced some hassles from someone.

Yet - this reminds me of when people say that the synagogue or church doesn't do anything for them.

The rabbi or priest has a very good response: what are YOU bringing to the house of worship to share?

God helps those who help themselves.

Perhaps your Hispanic co-worker is like a lot of white and black Americans who expect everything, but bring nothing in return.

Well he should just go back then. I mean theres got to be some reason his *** is over here. These People are ungrateful little SOB's If it wasnt for being in uor country they would be living in a country that doesnt even have clean drinking water

Why should this country do anything for him? He needs to help himself. If he's an illegal, he needs to become a citizen. If he's not an illegal, what the hell is his problem? That would be like myself going to Spain and expecting their government to put me on a pedestal. NOT GONNA HAPPEN!

Good he should go back...he obviously expected the gov't to do better at supporting him...welfare is only for a temp situation not a way of life

If he thinks that this country has done nothing for him, then he should have gone back to Mexico a long, long, time ago.

okay so the question was "what do you think of that statemant?"

not should i call ins and have him deported.

I think he feels let down, not by this country but his own family and maybe himself. he might also feel like if he would of never migrated, nothing like this would of happened to him. some people do wonder how different their lives would of been if they would of stayed in their country.

I feel sorry for him, especially because he doesn't realize that he did all this to himself.
