what were you doing when the first plane hit the world trade center?
It's like a "when Kenedy was shot" question for the younger generation.
Personally I was at home in front of the telly ( 3pm here when it happened) and shocked. Sat and watched for hours after it...

Shopping in Camden Market, London.
Bought 2 fake fur coats and a couple of bootleg Manic Street Preachers CD's!
It's odd to remember that since I normally have the memory of a goldfish and can't remember what happened 5 days ago much less 5 years!!!

I was a delivery driver for a printing company then, it just so happened that I had to deliver envelopes/letterhead/permission... slips etc. to the entire Chelsea public school system. I hopped in my van and started listening to cd collection as I drove through traffic. I went into a new school building - 4 elementary schools had been combined in a new structure so they could keep the schools separate (keep classes small) and share all the big resources like the gym and auditorium. I went to the first main office and the radio was on, but I didn't really pay attention, I just dropped off the stuff and got a signature - but the mood was somber. At the second main office the tv was on, but all the teachers were crowded around it, and my curiosity kicked in. I walked into the third main office and saw the tv - it was in between when the first plane hit and the second and I saw the building burning - but there was no caption or sound, so I didn't know what or where it was. My brother works in downtown Boston and that's all I could think of as I raced to the last office and barely looked at the woman as I dropped off the boxes. I ran to the van and turned on the radio to WAAF. The usual wild and hard rock station was patching in the am talk station, they were not even going to try to make sense of the news... how could they? Rock stations are not usually capable of handling that type of news. I sat in that van for about a half an hour just listening to the radio, in utter disbelief. My phone rang and made me jump out of my seat. My best friend was calling, knowing that I usually spent the day listening to cd’s . And asked me if I was hearing this, I stayed on the phone with her for hours, as I got to each stop I would hang up and then I would immediately call her back when I got back to the van.
That was my first stop, I still had quite a few stops to make, Chelsea is a pretty big city on it's own, even though it is right outside of Boston. I did all of the elementary schools first, because they had smaller orders, I had loaded the large orders far back in the van. As the day passed I saw parents frantically searching for their children, kids crying, teachers trying to keep control, and administrators just trying to make sense of it all. The day was frantic. At the first stop I had pulled right up to the front door without anyone even blinking, halfway through the day I was being stopped and asked what my business was, by the end of the day my van was searched at every stop. By the time I got to the high school, my last stop, it was eerily quiet. I saw groups of thugs and thug-wannabe’s, cheer-leaders and Goths, geeks and jocks, all quiet – all sitting mixed together – most were crying.
When I got home I hugged my brother and mom, called my friends, and went to my night job –where I managed a store full of high school employees – there has never been a night so quiet in that store since.

I was watching Babylon 5. Previously I was watching Independence Day and I left the DVD running. When Babylon 5 had finished I switched over to sky news and when I saw the tower on fire I thought I had switched over to the DVD player and then switched back when I realised i was watching sky news in the first place. It took me a few seconds to realise what I was seeing was real.
I also have a motorised satellite system so I swung the dish round and started watching the feeds. One of the feeds I saw later in the day was a Canadian feed that stated the plane that crashed into the field was actually shot down. I am still not sure if this was incorrect information or if it was real and then hushed up.

I was on my way to work in NYC, I had just got off the Subway, as i came back to the surface everyone had stopped and was looking back down 5th Ave.
I still remember asking a Cop that was there what was going on. When he told uus that a plane had flown into the North tower everyone was stunned.
I remember getting to my desk and the TV was on CNN, we where all talking about it as the second plane hiit the South tower, it was that point where everyone just went numb and cold. the rest of the day is really just a blur, even now i could not tell you how or when i finally got home on that day.

I was asleep when the first plane hit because I was working nights at the time. I got up and put the TV on about 10 minutes after it hit. I wasn't very awake at work that night coz I spent the rest of the day watching the news having only had about five hours sleep.

Sleeping. I woke up to the horrible news and watched in shock. I live in the mountain time zone, I just sat there and watched it all on TV. I was sick to think of the families and victims. My hubby being a firefighter, it hit very close to home. I cannot imagine losing him in such a tragedy. I just sat there and held my baby.
I later went shopping, I didn't want to but my baby needed clothes badly. I felt guilty shopping knowing what was happening on the other side of the US. I have never been into a mall that was so somber and quiet. You could see the sadness in everyones faces everywhere we went. It was horrible. I think about it almost daily., and thank God for my blessings.
God Bless all the victims and their families!!!!

i was just getting in my dads car with a bagload of books from school...my sister and i were fighting over the front seat when the music stopped and they said a plane has just crashed into the world trade centre....i remember my sister asking my dad where the world trade centre was. i knew it was in America...we listened to the radio for the whole 15 mins and we ran to the tv and watched what was happening.....it made me think about people in New York...we watched the tv in silence until bedtime...we were in shock about the 4 planes and the buildings they hit....i remember looking at newspapers filled with 9/11 news for months.....what had happened in New York could of happened again...like the bombings in London and Madrid
may all people that died during 9/11 or in result of 9/11 rest in peace

I Just got out of bed when I heard the news about the first plane hitting the tower. I was eating breakfast while watching the news on TV and watched the second plane hit the second tower live on air. Needless to say I lost my appetite soon afterwards...

properly, no remember if it rather is actual that it replaced into structurally broken with the help of the blasts from the twin Towers and replaced into evacuated, then it rather is not astonishing there has been little point out of variety seven while one and 2, with the tragic loss of thousands of lives, could take nearly all of the media interest. So i assume it replaced right into a controlled demolition, and not an instantaneous results of the attack on the twin Towers. I doubt that it replaced into relating to the media no longer being "allowed" to talk approximately it, yet that they did no longer difficulty, as quickly as having stated it, with the aid of fact there replaced into no extra information in it. unhappy yet actual, death is what made the attention on the twin Towers so severe.

I was driving home, and imagined a piper cub or similar, sticking out of an 80th story window, a dead pilot, some dead office workers, some injured etc.
I stopped at a shop, and heard a taxi driver call to a bus driver that it was two airoplanes, and thought ' Oh yes...it'll be an aircraft carrier moored across the roofs of the towers by the time I get home'. (you know - Chinese whispers)
I switched on the TV when I got home, just to see ..........
